Abstract Background This study aims to screen the male human papillomavirus (HPV) infection status and genotyping in Qingcheng District, Qingyuan City, Guangdong Province, China to provide a reference basis for formulating prevention strategies for HPV infection. Methods The present study collected urethral epithelium or scraped penile epidermis from high-risk male patients in Qingyuan People's Hospital during the last five years, extracted DNA fragments using the boiling method, and detected 23 types of HPV genotypes by PCR-reverse blot hybridization. Results The positive detection rate was 54.31% of 1044 males with high risk of HPV (567/1044). Among these males, the positive detection rate of HPV was the highest in patients initially diagnosed with warts, and the rate was 66.47%. Five main HPV types are identified as follows: HPV6 18.87% (197/1044), HPV11 10.25% (107/1044), HPV52 8.81% (92/1044), HPV16 6.90% (72/1044), and HPV51 5.08% (53/1044). Among these HPV-infected patients, single infection mainly by low-risk HPV6 and HPV11 accounted for 56.61% (321/567); high- and low-risk combined HPV co-infections accounted for 29.10% (165/567). The HPV infected patients was mainly between 21 and 40 years old, and the HPV infection rate was higher with increased age. Conclusions The HPV infection rate in the Qingyuan area is higher than in other areas and the main infection is single infection. Furthermore, HPV52, HPV16, and HPV51 are the main high-risk infection types, while HPV6 and HPV11 are the main low-risk infection types.

Objective: To investigate the epidemiological characteristics and genotypes of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in Mianyang. Methods: The cervical samples of 27,040 patients, who visited the Department of Gynecology of The Third Hospital of Mianyang from January 2018 to January 2020, were collected. Results: The HPV-positive infection rate was 21.40% (5,787/27,040); the single HPV infection rate was 72.04% (4,169/5,787); the double HPV infection rate was 19.73% (1,142/5,787); the triple and above HPV infection rate was 8.22% (476/5,787); the top five high-risk HPV subtypes with the highest infection rates were HPV52, 16, 58, 53, and 51, while the top five low-risk HPV subtypes with the highest infection rates were HPV81, 42, 43, 6, and 11; there were significant differences in the HPV-positive infection rate, high-risk infection rate, low-risk infection rate, and multiple infection rate among different age groups (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The HPV infection rate in Mianyang was 21.4%, in which the majority of the cases were single infection; the high-risk HPV subtypes were HPV52, 16, 58, 53, and 51; the HPV-positive infection rate, high-risk infection rate, low-risk infection rate, and multiple infection rate were high in the middle but low at both ends in the context of age distribution; the top three age groups with the highest infection rates were 45-49, 40-44, and 30-34.

Abstract Background Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common sexually transmitted viruses. Data about HPV infection in Guizhou is limited. Methods 56,768 cervical samples were collected and genotyped for 15 main high risk and 6 main low risk HPV types. Results 16.95% (9623/56768) of samples were HPV positive; 90.70% (8728/9623) of HPV positive women were infected by high risk HPV. High risk and high risk mix infection (1458; 70.85%) was the most common mix HPV infection type. The highest HPV detection rate was found in age group 41–45 years old (detection rate = 17.89%) (χ2 = 204.77; P < 0.001); the highest within-group HPV infection rates were found in the ≤20 (25.62%) and ≥ 61 (24.67%) years old age groups, the lowest within-group HPV infection rate was found in the 31–35 years old age group (15.02%). The highest mix infection proportions were found in the ≥61 (36.06%) and ≤ 20 (33.63%) years old age groups (χ2 = 111.21; P < 0.001), the lowest mix infection proportion was found in the 41–45 (17.42%) years old age group. The highest high risk infection proportions were found in the 26–30 (92.98%), ≥61 (92.68%), and 36–40 (92.16%) years old age groups (χ2 = 31.72; P < 0.001), the lowest high risk infection proportion was found in the ≤20 (84.96%) years old age group. HPV infection rates varied with seasons in Guizhou. Conclusions Characteristics of HPV distribution in Guizhou were identified. There were significant differences in HPV distribution among age groups, prevention strategies should be adjusted according to the characteristics.

Background Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection rates in women vary regionally. This study analyzed HPV infection in women of different age groups in Hefei, China, performed follow-up on positive cases, and discussed infection prognoses. Methods Samples (7,222) of exfoliated cervical cells were collected in Hefei and tested with an HPV assay kit against 27 HPV genotypes. Statistical software was used to analyze the data. Results The total positive rate of infection was 17.13% (1,068 women), and the 51–60-year age group had the highest HPV infection rate (19.82%). There were statistically significant differences between rates in the 21–30 and 31–40 (P = 0.002), 21–30 and 41–50 (P = 0.0003), 21–30 and 51–60 (P = 0.00003), and 51–60 and >60 age groups (P = 0.046). High-risk infection (15.67%) and single infection (13.01%) were the main types of HPV infection. The dominant genotypes of high-risk infection were HPV 52 (2.42%), HPV 16 (2.01%), HPV 53 (1.43%), HPV 58 (1.32%) and HPV 66 (1.01%). We conducted follow-up on cases in 69 of 94 women who had a history of 1–4 years of positive infection, and in 18 (seven treated, 11 untreated) patients, infection status turned negative (26.09%). Seventeen of the fifty-one women whose infections did not turn negative received treatment. Persistent infection was predominantly observed in high-risk genotypes (56 of 69). Conclusions The results recommend that women in Hefei improve health awareness and receive a 9-valent vaccine. Additionally, women with persistent infections should consult a gynecologist to prevent cervical lesions.

So as to provide reference for the prevention of HPV infection and cervical cancer screening strategy.MethodsA retrospective analysis of 4614 women who underwent cervical cytology, and HPV examination from January 2018 to October 2019 at the healthcare department of Wuhan Union Hospital was done. We explored the characteristics and distribution of HPV infections around the menopause, then comparing the infection rate of HPV in postmenopause and over 65 years old, in order to analyze the influence of different ages on HPV infection.ResultsGenerally, the HPV infection rate was 13.10% (539 / 4115), whereby the high-risk subtype constituted 73.84% (398 / 539) of all positive cases. On the other hand, the HPV39 infection was more common in postmenopausal women; however, there was no significant difference in the distribution of the other types in the pre- and postmenopausal women (Insert p value). The first four subtypes were 52 / 53 / 58 / 16, respectively. The infection rate of HPV in patients with lower genital tract inflammation was significantly higher, P = 0.000, 95% CI: 1.911 (1.416, 2.580) compared with those without lower genital tract inflammation. The results further showed that there was no significant difference between pre- and postmenopausal women in terms of HPV infection rate, but more susceptible to high-risk HPV infection after the age of 65 (P = 0.041). Except for 40 years old to menopause, the infection rate of high-risk HPV in this age group was different from that in postmenopause(P = 0.023,0.729(0.555,0.957)), other age groups had no significant effect on high-risk HPV infection.ConclusionsIt was concluded that whether menopause has nothing to do with HPV infection. Moreover, the infection rate of high-risk HPV increases after 65 years of age; hence the cutoff screening age should be appropriately prolonged.Trial registration: Retrospectively registered.

Abstract Context.—Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) play an important role in the etiology of squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix. The possible role of the male urogenital tract as a reservoir of HPV infection is not fully understood. We inferred from our previous observation of HPV-31 in epididymal tissue in a case of chronic epididymitis that HPV might be commonly present in cases of epididymitis caused by sexually transmitted pathogens. Objective.—To assess the presence of HPV in the epididymis and ductus deferens in nontuberculous epididymitis. Design.—Epididymal samples obtained from 17 patients and epididymal and ductus deferens samples from 5 patients surgically treated for nontuberculous epididymitis were analyzed by nested polymerase chain reaction for the presence of HPV DNA. In positive samples, the HPV type was determined by DNA sequencing. Setting.—Tertiary-care academic hospital and national reference laboratory for papillomaviruses. Results.—Low-risk HPV type 6 and high-risk HPV types 16, 33, 35, 55, and 73 were detected in 7 patients (31%). Neither koilocytes nor dysplastic changes were found in the epididymis and ductus deferens. Conclusion.—Low-risk and high-risk HPV types were detected in the epididymis and ductus deferens of patients with nontuberculous epididymitis. The infection was not accompanied by koilocytic atypia or dysplasia. Our findings support the hypothesis that the male urogenital tract serves as a reservoir of HPV infection.

Abstract In this study, a total of 301,880 woman were recruited from 4 different regions of China. The overall prevalence of HPV was 18.01 %. The high-risk HPV infection rate was 79.14%, the low-risk HPV infection rate was 12.56 %, and the mixed HPV infection rate was 8.30%. The most common 4 HR HPV subtypes were HPV-52, 16, 58 and 53, which accounted for 20.49 %, 19.93 %, 14.54 % and 10.01 %. In LR HPV genotype, HPV-6 ranked the highest (28.17 %), followed by HPV-81 (9.09 %) and HPV-11 (3.78 %). HPV genotype subgroup analysis also showed that single-type infections had the highest prevalence rate (77.26 %) among HPV positive individuals. Among muti-infection genotype, double infection was the most common with frequencies of 76.04 %. This large report showed that the overall prevalence of HPV was high in China, whose distribution exhibits different patterns across different particular age and regions. Viral genotypes HPV 53, 6 were frequently detected in this population, which is worth of significant clinical attention.

The results further showed that the rates of HPV infection before and after menopause were 12.34% (367/2975) and 15.09% (172/1140), respectively, which had no significant difference (P = 0.056), but more susceptible to high-risk HPV infection after the age of 65 (P = 0.041). Except for 40 years old to menopause, the infection rate of high-risk HPV in this age group was different from that in postmenopause (P = 0.023, 0.729 (0.555, 0.957)), other age groups had no significant effect on high-risk HPV infection. Conclusions It was concluded that whether menopause has nothing to do with HPV infection. Moreover, the risk of high-risk HPV infection in women aged 40 to premenopausal is relatively low, but the infection rate increases after 65. Hence the cutoff screening age should be appropriately prolonged.

Introduction: Condyloma acuminata that is also known as genital warts are one of the most common sexually transmitted that caused by infection of Human papillomavirus (HPV). Persistent infection of Low Risk (LR) or High risk (HR) HPV is a risk factor for progress into benign or malignant cancer. The objective is to analyze distribution of genotype LR-HPV and HR-HPV at condyloma acuminata in anogenital region. Methods: A cross sectional study using were 36 lesions from men and women of condyloma acuminata patients. All subject signed the informed consent and ethic obtained from our institution, number 382/Panke.KKE/V/2016. The specimen was used to histopathological examination and to identified 40 genotypes of HPV using a reverse line blot assay.Results: The All patients were diagnosed as condyloma acuminata, some with focus dysplasia and koilocytosis. All patients were positive for HPV, including LR-HPV were HPV 6, 11, 42, 54, 61, 81,87,89 and HR-HPV were HPV 18, 26, 45, 51, 52, 66, 67, 68B, 69, 82. The single infection of LR-HPV was 44.4%, multiple infection LR/LR-HPV was 13,9% and the multiple infection of LR/HR-HPV was 41.7%. The LR-HPV infected 70,6% and HR-HPV infected 29,4%.  Conclusion: LR-HPV is the major infection of condyloma acuminata, in single infection or multiple infection with HR-HPV. The most common infections were HPV 11, followed by HPV 6, HPV 18, HPV 51, and HPV 82. The determination of genotype of HPV can be used to predict the malignant transformation.

Abstract Background Human papillomavirus (HPV) causes oral warts and oropharyngeal cancer (OPC). Human papillomavirus-attributable OPC incidence among men is significantly increasing worldwide, yet few studies have reported oral HPV across multiple countries or examined factors associated with low- and high-risk HPV separately. Methods Oral gargles from 3095 men in the multinational HPV Infection in Men (HIM) Study were HPV genotyped. Multivariable models assessed factors independently associated with high-risk and low-risk HPV prevalence. Results The prevalence of high-risk and low-risk HPV was 6.0% and 2.8%, respectively. Greater number of sexual partners was only associated with high-risk HPV (1.88; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.22–2.90) prevalence. In multivariable models, residing in Mexico (1.66; 95% CI, 1.15–2.40) and smoking (1.66; 95% CI, 1.13–2.44) were significantly associated with high-risk HPV, and history of consistent gum bleeding (2.16; 95% CI, 1.35–3.45) was significantly associated with low-risk HPV. Gender of the sexual partner did not alter the results for either high- or low-risk HPV endpoints. Conclusions Different factors were independently associated with high- and low-risk oral HPV. Oral sexual behaviors were associated with high-risk HPV, and oral health was associated with low-risk HPV. High-risk HPV prevalence differed by country of residence, highlighting the need for additional studies in multiple countries.
