Abstract Background The current study aimed to evaluate factors affecting the long-term stability of microimplants using removal torque and the correlation between removal torque and clinical variables. Materials and methods This research evaluated 703 microimplants placed in 354 patients (mean age: 30.4 ± 12.1 years). The removal torque was evaluated according to various clinical variables including sex, age, placement site, microimplant size, and placement method (self-drilling versus pre-drilling). Pearson correlation and stepwise multiple linear regression analyses were performed to investigate different variables and their association with removal torque. Results The mean removal torque was significantly higher in the mandible (4.46 N cm) than in the maxilla (3.73 N cm). The values in the posterior teeth/retromolar areas were significantly higher than those in the anterior teeth area. There were no significant difference in terms of sex. Teenagers had a lower removal torque than older adults in the mandible, but not in the maxilla. Microimplants with a greater length and diameter, except for those with a greater diameter in the maxilla, was associated with a higher removal torque. Regardless of placement torque, the removal torque convergently reached approximately 4 N cm in both placement methods. The removal torque was significantly correlated with screw length in the self-drilling group and with diameter in the pre-drilling group. Conclusions Removal torque was related with placement site, age, placement method, and length and diameter of microimplants.

Measuring the phytodiversity and determining environmental factors affecting the abundance and distribution of riparian plants of Zat sub-basin in Morocco were carried out in this study. A hypothesis was tested whether there is any statistically significant difference in environmental parameters and plants communities among the Zat River and its tributaries. For this purpose, water quality parameters such as temperature, pH, salinity, electrical conductivity, Dissolved Oxygen, nitrate and phosphorus concentration, and riparian plants diversity were estimated at 17 stations along the Zat River and its tributaries during the periods (2018 and 2019). The Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) and Pearson correlation were preformed to assess the relationship between environmental parameters, and the distribution and abundance of riparian plants inventoried. The presence of 113 species was recorded, distributed between 43 families and 97 genera, 9 of which were floating-leaved, 24 submerged, and 80 emergent plants. The rare and threatened species inventoried were represented by 7 taxa, whereas 6 species are reported as endemic. Raunkiaer classification showed a dominance of therophytes (38.39%) over the other groups. According to CCA, the abiotic parameters (DO, elevation, salinity and nitrate concentration) were statistically significant parameters governing the distribution and abundance of the riparian plants inventoried. The results obtained reveal the state of the riparian vegetation in the Zat subBasin, therefore we can consider them as a reliable component for the assessment of the ecological status of the aquatic environment.

Abstract In newly diagnosed glioblastoma (GBM), Temozolomide (TMZ) during and after radiation therapy has become standard treatment. This study describes the long-term use and follow-up results of this therapy for GBM. From 2004 to 2013 in a single institute, 112 Korean patients with newly diagnosed GBM were analyzed retrospectively. The Kaplan-Meier method, the two-sided log-rank test and Cox’s regression analysis was used to determine survival and its affecting factors. The toxicities of TMZ were evaluated using CTCAE v5.0. During the median follow-up period of 18.8 months, median PFS and OS were 9.2 and 20.3 months, respectively. This better survival outcome than the Stupp’s original study might be probably a large treatment effect of a single institution, ethnicity, and associated genetic factors. The TMZ during radiation therapy was completed in 108 patients (96.4%) and TMZ after radiation therapy in 59 patients (52.7%). Eight patients presented with grade 3 or 4 hematologic toxic effects during the protocol. Sixty-six patients (58.9%) received salvage treatment because of the poor response to adjuvant treatment or progression of the disease who achieved completion of adjuvant treatment was shown significantly longer median OS (p= 0.007) and PFS (p< 0.001). Age (< 60 years), preoperative KPS score (≥ 90), the extent of resection (≥ 78% by volumetric measurement, gross total resection), and completion of the Stupp’s protocol were significant factors affecting better survival. Between the sexes, and ages over 65 years did not show any significant difference among their groups. With marginal significances, the mutated IDH-1 and the methylated MGMT promoter showed longer median PFS(p= 0.075 and 0.777, respectively) and OS (p= 0.085 and 0.131, respectively). TMZ during and after radiation therapy might be effective and safe for newly diagnosed Korean patients with GBM. Further studies about various clinical and genetic factors affecting better survival are mandatory.

The aim of this study was to assess the displacement of posterior teeth in maxillary complete dentures stored in water at 37°C. Twenty acrylic resin-based maxillary complete dentures were constructed with the anterior teeth arranged in normal overlap and the posterior teeth in Angle class I. Metallic pins were placed on the labial cusp of the first premolars (PM), and on the mesiolabial cusp of the second molars (M). The final acrylic resin pressing was made in a metallic flask with aid of the RS tension system, and polymerized in a moist-hot cycle at 74°C for 9 hours. The dentures were deflasked after cooling in their own polymerizing water or after cooling in polymerizing water plus bench storage for 3 hours, and stored in water at 37°C for periods of 7, 30, and 90 days. Following deflasking and after each storage period tested, the PM-PM (premolar to premolar), M-M (molar to molar), LPM-LM (left premolar to left molar), and RPM-RM (right premolar to right molar) distances were measured with an STM Olympus microscope, with an accuracy of 0.0005 mm. Collected data were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey's test (5%). There was no statistically significant difference for the PM-PM, M-M, and LPM-LM distances after all storage periods when the flask cooling methods were considered. With exception of the RPM-RM distance after the 30-days water plus bench storage period, the other distances remained statistically stable.

Abstract Aim To determine caries prevalence, severity, and pattern in preschool children of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Methods and Materials A total of 789 randomly selected preschool children, 379 (48%) male and 410 (52%) female, with mean age of 4.7 (SD 0.5) years were examined for dental caries using World Health Organization (WHO) diagnostic criteria. Results The overall caries prevalence among the sample was 74.8%. The mean decayed, missing, and filled (dmft) score was 6.1 (SD 3.9) with a decay component of 4.66, a missing component of 0.54, and a filled component of 0.92. There was no significant difference (p>.05) in caries prevalence and severity in relation to gender of the children. However, the caries prevalence and severity were significantly higher (p<.05) among children from government preschools as compared to those from private preschools. Among the posterior teeth, mandibular second molars (54.3%), and among anterior teeth, maxillary central incisors (27.9%) had the highest caries prevalence. Among the molars, caries prevalence was generally high in lower molars while among the anterior teeth, upper teeth generally had a higher caries prevalence. The majority of the children (50.3%) had both posterior and anterior tooth caries, 42.2% had posterior tooth caries only, while very few (7.5%) children had only anterior tooth caries. Conclusion Caries prevalence and severity are very high in the study population, and most children have posterior tooth caries. Clinical Significance Early measures such as fissure sealants, topical fluoride applications (as early as safely possible), and dietary fluoride supplements (where indicated) are needed to prevent caries of deciduous molars in high caries populations. Aims Self-care helps older people manage their own health and stay independent by delaying disability. This study aimed to apply the Backman Model in determining the dimensions of self-care and the factors affecting it in the elderly in Tehran. Methods & Materials: This cross-sectional study was performed on 400 elderly members ofnursing homes by systematic random sampling. Data gathering tool included demographic characteristics and self-care behaviors, self-care orientation, life satisfaction assessment, self-confidence, social support, and functional capability. The Chi-square and Pearson correlationand regression analysis were used with a significance coefficient of 0.05. The data were analyzed in SPSS v. 19. Findings: The total mean ages of elderly were 69.11±7.51, 42.5% male. There was significant difference between the types of self-care and gender only in the dimensions of work habits (P<0.001) and medical treatment (P<0.001). Pearson correlation indicated there was a direct and positive relationship between self-care type and self-care orientation (r=0.662, P=0.01). The relationship between self-care type and social support was negative (r=0.075, P=0.01). Conclusion: Factors such as life satisfaction, functional capacity, social support and self-confidence are associated with self-care in the elderly. It is suggested that health system policymakers formulate support programs for the elderly in various forms, such as the elderly access to transportation program, facilities, tax exemptions, etc.

AbstractVagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is used as therapy in epilepsy and depression and is tested as a potential treatment for several chronic disorders. Typically, VNS is delivered at increasing stimulus intensity until a response is observed (threshold intensity). Factors that affect threshold intensities for engagement of different fiber types and concomitant physiological responses have not been studied. We determined neural and physiological responses to increasing stimulus intensities of VNS in anesthetized and awake animals, and examined the effect of implant- and anesthesia-related factors on threshold intensities in a rodent model of VNS. In acute and long-term cervical vagus nerve implants (53 and 14 rats, respectively) VNS was delivered under isoflurane, ketamine-xylazine, or awake at different intensities. Stimulus-evoked compound action potentials (eCAPs) were recorded, elicited physiological responses were registered, including changes heart rate (HR), breathing, and blood pressure (BP), and threshold intensities were determined. The intensity that elicits eCAPs (“neural threshold”) is significantly lower than what elicits a physiological response (“physiological threshold”, PT) (25 μA ±1.8 vs. 70 μA ±5.2, respectively; Mean ±SEM). Changes in BP occur at the lowest stimulus intensities (80 μA ±7), followed by changes in HR (105 μA ±8.4) and finally in breathing (310 μA ±32.5). PT is lower with than without electrode insulation (60 μA ±12, vs. 700 μA ±123). PT and electrode impedance are correlated in long-term (r=0.47; p<0.001) but not in acute implants (r=-0.34; p NS); both PT and impedance increase with implant age (Pearson correlation r=0.44; p<0.001 and r=0.64; p<0.001, respectively). PT is lowest when animals are awake (210 μA ±33; Mean ±SEM), followed by ketamine-xylazine (630 μA ±154), and isoflurane (1075 μA ±131). The sequence of physiological responses with increasing VNS intensity is similar in both anesthetized and awake states. Implant age, electrical impedance and the type of anesthesia affect VNS threshold and should be accounted for when determining stimulation dose.

Introduction: The use of fenestrated and branched endovascular technologies in complex aortic aneurysm repair (F/BEVAR) is increasing, with a trend toward using longer sealing zones and incorporating more target vessels. Successful aneurysm exclusion and prevention of long-term treatment failure need to be balanced against the increased complexity of more extensive procedures. The aim of this study was to analyze relationships between the number of catheterized vessels and multiple operative variables as a means for evaluating procedural complexity. Methods: Operative data from consecutive F/BEVAR procedures performed at a single center from 2012 to 2015 were analyzed. An equal number of EVAR procedures, randomly selected, from this period were also analyzed. Only intact aneurysms were included. Complex aneurysms were grouped based on the required number of target vessel catheterization. Ten procedural variables, categorized as perioperative, postoperative, and radiologic-related, were compared. Pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis were performed. The correlation coefficients, r, were classified using Cohen boundaries, r ≥ 0.5 indicating a strong relationship. Results: There were 63 EVAR, 40 FEVAR, and 22 BEVAR procedures. There was no significant difference in patient comorbidities between conventional EVAR and complex procedure groups. The complex procedures included 23 two-vessel, 20 three-vessel, and 19 four-vessel catheterizations. Strong linear relationships between the number of branch vessel catheterizations and the following variables were identified: accumulated skin dose ( r = .504), contrast volume ( r = .652), fluoroscopy duration ( r = .598), number of angiography series ( r = .650), anesthesiology duration ( r = .742), procedure duration ( r = .554), and total length of stay ( r = .533). Conclusion: The complexity of FEVAR and BEVAR procedures reveals strong correlations between multiple peri- and postoperative variables. These exposures and risks should be borne in mind when considering treatment of complex abdominal aortic aneurysms as well as long-term clinical outcomes.

This retrospective study evaluated the clinical performance and the reasons for failure of anterior and posterior composite restorations placed by undergraduate dental students over a 3-year period. All cavities were restored using Prime & Bond 2.1 and TPH (Dentsply), according to the manufacturer's indications. One hundred and two patients who had received composite restorations by third and forth year undergraduate students were recalled and examined to analyze the quality of the restorations. The restorations were evaluated using the modified USPHS system. Two hundred and fifty-six composite restorations, 170 in anterior teeth and 86 in posterior teeth, were evaluated. Eighty-five percent of the restorations were considered satisfactory after 3 years. Class II and class IV restorations presented the highest prevalence of failure. Loss of the restoration and deficient marginal adaptation were the main causes of failure. No restoration failed due to secondary caries. Most restorations placed by dental students were considered satisfactory after long-term evaluation. Failure was more prevalent in larger restorations and was not associated with secondary caries.

Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the readiness and expectations of the students of sports science faculties regarding the e-Learning process as well as their self-efficacy perceptions. Methods: The research group consists of 146 men and 64 women studying at the faculties of sports sciences, a total of 210 university students. “Personal Information Form”, “Readiness and Expectation Scale for e-Learning Process” and “General Self-efficacy Scale (GSE)” were applied to the participants. In the analysis of the data, the appropriateness of the parametric tests was reviewed and the independent sample t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and simple linear regression analysis were used. Results: In the study, it is seen that there is no significant difference in self-efficacy perceptions and its sub-dimensions according to gender and habit of playing sports actively, but there is a statistical difference between the groups when compared according to grade level. It is found that there is a significant difference in the readiness and expectations of e-Learning in favor of women in terms of only the dimension of factors that affect success according to gender. It is observed that according to habit of playing sports actively, the scores of those who play sports are high in total score averages and in all other dimensions except for the dimension of factors affecting success, and there is a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of access to technology and technical skills when compared according to the grade. It is seen that there is a positive linear relationship between self-efficacy perception and readiness and expectation for e-Learning, and that self-efficacy perception explains 6% of the variance in readiness and expectations for e-Learning. Conclusion: In the research, it is concluded that the self-efficacy perceptions and readiness for e-Learning of those who play sports actively are higher, and that self-efficacy perception is an important predictor of their readiness and expectations regarding e-Learning. ABSTRACT Objectives To assess whether orthodontic debonding and onset of tooth sensitivity were related and if anterior and posterior teeth showed different sensitivity. Materials and Methods 40 patients were divided into a trial group (group 1, at the end of the multibracket treatment) and a control group (group 2, not under treatment). After the application of compressed air and cold water to mandibular incisors and first molars, participants were asked to report the pain felt for each tooth using a 100-mm visual analogue scale. In group 1, assessment was performed just before debonding (T0), immediately after completion of debonding (T1) and 7 days after (T2). In group 2, values were assessed at the beginning of a follow-up visit (T0), at the end of the same visit (T1) and 7 days after (T2). Results Considering overall teeth, statistical analyses showed significantly higher values in the trial group at T1 after both stimuli, especially after cold water, besides a significant difference between T0 and T2 values in the same group. Anterior teeth showed significantly higher VAS scores than posterior after the two thermal stimuli, except after air stimulation in group 1 at T2 and in group 2. Conclusions Orthodontic debonding leads to sensitivity to thermal stimuli especially in the anterior teeth, however pain level is restored within 7 days.
