Abstract Background Postpartum sexual health and practice need to be integrated in the current maternal healthcare services to address sexual health problems. However, postpartum sexual practice has received little attention, and was not often discussed by healthcare providers during prenatal and postnatal care. Thus, this study was aimed to assess early resumption of sexual intercourse and associated factors among postpartum women in Gondar city, Northwest Ethiopia. Methods A community based cross-sectional study was conducted from January 20 to February 20, 2020. A systematic random sampling technique was used to select 634 postpartum women. A pretested, structured and interviewer-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. Data were entered into Epi Info 7.2.2 and exported to SPSS version 20 for analysis. Bivariable and multivariable logistic regressions analysis were done. Variables with p- value of < 0.05 were considered as statistically significant. Results The magnitude of early resumption of sexual intercourse after childbirth was found to be 26.9% (95% CI: 23.2, 30.8). Urban resident (AOR = 6.12, 95% CI: 2.41, 15.66), parity of one (AOR = 2.26, 95% CI: 1.66, 7.78), husband demand (AOR = 2.66, 95% CI: 1.72, 4.11), postnatal care (AOR = 1.45, 95% CI: 1.06, 2.18) and use of family planning (AOR = 2.72, 95% CI: 1.51, 3.43) were factors significantly associated with early resumption of sexual intercourse. Conclusion The study found that more than one fourth of women had resumed sexual intercourse within six weeks of following childbirth. The finding of this study suggests the need of integrating discussions of postpartum sexual activity into routine prenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care with collaborative effort of policy makers, program planners, health care providers and other stakeholders. Moreover, spousal communication on postpartum sexual activity should be encouraged.

Abstract Objective: To investigate the sexual activity of older adults, to understand their knowledge attitude and practice(KAP) regarding sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and to perform correlation analyses of STD symptoms in this population. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 585 subjects from counties in eastern China. Data was collected from unified questionnaires; descriptive statistics were used for demographic characteristics and sexual activity, which used student t test, to compare the different groups, and multivariate logistic regression analysis to identify the dependence of influential factors. Results: 24.62% of participants were reported as sexually active. The subjects still work and the main income from personal salary was higher than other individuals . Furthermore, when participants monthly income or expenses was more than 1000 RMB, they seemed to have a higher sexual activity. Gender and monthly income were dependent on influential factors related to sexual activity. 54.7% showed good awareness of STD, but only 7.96% of them consistently and correctly used condoms; moreover, 21.03% report to have previously suffered from any STD symptoms. Sexual behavior, use of condoms and commercial sexual behavior were dependent on influential factors of sexual activity. Conclusions: Sexual needs and sexual health of older adults should not be neglected, effective strategies should be drafted for such population.

Objective To assess the magnitude and factors associated with depression and anxiety among people with epilepsy and attending out-patient treatment at central Gondar zone primary public hospitals, northwest, Ethiopia. Method An institutional based cross-sectional study was conducted from May—June, 2020 at central Gondar zone primary public hospitals. A total of 589 participants were chosen by systematic sampling technique. Data was collected by utilizing Amharic version interviewer-administered structured and semi-structured questioners. Depression and anxiety were assessed by using hospital anxiety and depression scale. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis was done to recognize variables related to both depression and anxiety. Association was described by using “adjusted odds ratio” (AOR) along with 95% full Confidence interval (CI). Finally, P-values < 0.05 in adjusted analysis were taken as a cut off for significant association. Result Out of 556 participants included in the study, 30.9%, 33.1% had depression and anxiety respectively. Being divorced/widowed (AOR = 2.43, 95% CI, 1.18–4.99), using two and above number of antiepileptic medications (AOR = 1.77,95% CI,1.02–3.09), very frequent seizure frequency (AOR = 2.68, 95% CI,1.30–5.51), current substance use (AOR = 1.82, 95% CI, 1.03–3.22), perceived stigma (AOR = 5.67,95% CI,3.14–8.18), and hazardous alcohol use (AOR = 2.84, 95% CI,1.32–6.09) were statistically associated with depression. While, being a single (AOR = 1.65, 95% CI, 1.04–2.63), using two and above number of antiepileptic medications (AOR = 2.27, 95% CI, 1.42–3.62), duration of illness ≥16 years (AOR = 2.82, 95% CI, 1.26–6.31), and perceived stigma (AOR = 2.49, 95% CI, 1.63–3.82) were statistically associated with anxiety at a p-value < 0.05. Conclusion This study showed that the magnitude of depression and anxiety were relatively high among people with epilepsy. Using two and above number of antiepileptic medications and perceived stigma were statistically associated with both depression and anxiety. Screening, early identification and providing appropriate intervention of depression and anxiety among people with epilepsy should be great concern for the health care providers.

Abstract Abstract Background: Neonatal mortality is a concern for global population especially in developing countries. The majority of neonatal mortality occurs at home where only few families recognize key danger signs of neonatal illness. Thus, we assessed the knowledge on neonatal danger signs of illness and associated factors among mothers who gave birth in the last one year prior to this study in Debre Markos town, East Gojjam, northwest Ethiopia. Methods: A community-based, cross-sectional study was conducted among 521 mothers. Cluster sampling technique was used to select the study participants and interviewed using structured and pre-tested questionnaire. Data were entered to Epi Info and exported to SPSS for analysis. Variables in binary logistic regression with a P value <0.2 were fitted to multivariable logistic regression. Significant variables were declared at 95% CI and a P value <0.05. Results: A total 473 participants were interviewed by making a response of 91.0%. The proportion of knowledgeable mothers was found to be 26.2% (95% CI 22.2, 30.4). Mother’s secondary and tertiary education(AOR=3.64, 95% CI 1.14, 11.61 and AOR=3.80, 95% CI 1.25, 11.56), husband’s secondary and tertiary education(AOR=4.22, 95% CI 1.53, 11.60 and AOR=4.34, 95% CI 1.52, 12.37) respectively, antenatal care attendance(AOR = 3.54, 95% CI 1.62, 7.75), postnatal care attendance(AOR = 2.41, 95% CI 1.13, 5.14), getting prepared for birth(AOR =2.43, 95% CI 1.20, 4.89) and access for television(AOR = 2.06, 95% CI 1.01, 4.21) were found to be positively associated with being knowledgeable on neonatal danger signs. Conclusion: Mothers’ knowledge on neonatal danger signs was low. The finding showed that, intervention modalities to increase parental education, both antenatal and postnatal care attendance, mothers’ preparedness for birth and advocating the use of television might be helpful to improve mothers’ knowledge on neonatal danger signs. AbstractIntroductionThe Patient Dignity Question (PDQ) is a clinical tool developed with the aim of reinforcing the sense of personhood and dignity, enabling health care providers (HCPs) to see patients as people and not solely based on their illness.ObjectiveTo study the acceptability and feasibility of the Portuguese version of the PDQ (PDQ-PT) in a sample of palliative care patients cared for in primary care (PC).MethodA cross-sectional study using 20 palliative patients cared for in a PC unit. A post-PDQ satisfaction questionnaire was developed.ResultsTwenty participants were included, 75% were male; average age was 70 years old. Patients found the summary accurate, precise, and complete; all said that they would recommend the PDQ to others and want a copy of the summary placed on their family physician's medical chart. They felt the summary heightened their sense of dignity, considered it important that HCPs have access to the summary and indicated that this information could affect the way HCPs see and care for them. The PDQ-PT's took 7 min on average to answer, and 10 min to complete the summary.Significance of resultsThe PDQ-PT is well accepted and feasible to use with palliative patients in the context of PC and seems to be a promising tool to be implemented. Future trials are now warranted.

Introduction: Hypertension remains an emerging public health problem globally, particularly in developing countries. Age, income level, obesity, alcohol consumption, smoking, vegetables and fruit consumption, physical activity and chat chewing were some risk factors of hypertension. However, there are limited data on the epidemiology of hypertension in Ethiopia. This study aimed to assess Epidemiology of Hypertension among the community of selected towns of Wollega zones. Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted from 1 to 30 June 2019 in selected towns of Wollega zones. A multistage sampling technique was used to select 840 study participants. Data were collected using the WHO STEP wise approach. The data were coded and entered into EpiData 3, and exported to SPSS version 20.0 for analysis. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted. Statistical significance was declared at p-value < 0.05. Results: The study included a total of 838 respondents with a response rate of 99.7%. The prevalence of hypertension was found to be 189 (22.6%) (95% confidence interval = 19.9%–25.2%). Of this, 108 (12.9%) and 81 (9.7%) of female and male were hypertensive, respectively. Age groups of 30–44 years (adjusted odds ratio = 2.65 (1.43, 4.89)), 45–59 years (adjusted odds ratio = 3.55 (1.79, 7.04)), above 60 years (adjusted odds ratio = 2.97 (1.43, 6.18)), having history of alcohol consumption (adjusted odds ratio = 4.29 (2.4, 7.66)), involving in vigorous physical activity (adjusted odds ratio = 0.096 (0.028, 0.33)), not walking to and from the work (adjusted odds ratio = 13.12 (8.34, 20.67)), being overweight (adjusted odds ratio = 1.98 (1.21, 3.25)), inadequate fruits serving per day (adjusted odds ratio = 2.93 (1.75, 4.88)) were significantly associated with hypertension. Conclusion: The prevalence of hypertension was found to be high in the study area. Older age, alcohol consumption, not engaging in vigorous activity, physical inactivity, being overweight and inadequate intake of fruits were found to be risk factors for hypertension. Therefore, health care providers should provide extensive health education and promotion on recommended lifestyle modification to tackle the burden of hypertension.
