AbstractSince 2011, the Industry 4.0 initiative is a key research and development direction towards flexible production systems in Germany. The objective of the initiative is to deal with the challenge of an increased production complexity caused by various factors such as increasing global competition between companies, product variety, and individualization to meet customer needs. For this, Industry 4.0 envisions an overarching connection of information technologies with the production process, enabling smart manufacturing. Bringing current production systems to this objective will be a long transformation process, which requires a coherent migration path. The aim of this paper is to represent an exemplary production development way towards Industry 4.0 using eminent formalization approaches and standardized automation technologies.

Industry 4.0 proposes the incorporation of information technologies at all levels of the production process. By incorporating these technologies, Industry 4.0 provides new tools for production planning processes, allowing to address problems in an innovative and efficient manner. From these technologies and tools, it is that in this work a One-of-a-Kind Production (OKP) process is approached, where the products tend to be highly customized. OKP implies working with a very large variability within production, demanding very efficient planning systems. For this, a planning model based on CONWIP-type strategies was proposed, which seeks to level the production of a shop floor configured in the form of a job shop. Even more, for having a more realistic shop-floor representation, machine failures have been included in the model. In turn, different dispatching rules were proposed to study the performance and analyze the behaviour of the system. From the results obtained, it is observed that, when the production demand is very exigent in relation with the capacity of the system, the dispatching rules that analyze the workload generated by each job tend to perform better. However, when the demand on the capacity of the production system is less intense, the rules associated with due dates are the ones that obtain the best results.

Our research explores how additive manufacturing can support the food industry in facing its current global challenges. Although information technologies are usually highlighted as the main driver of the Industry 4.0 concept, which was first introduced during the Hannover Fair event in 2011, we posit that additive manufacturing can be the true generator of a sustainable competitive advantage in this sector. This evidence stems from a case study in a plant of one of the world’s largest fishing multinational companies. Our results show how, through robotic claw optimization using three-dimensional printing, we not only reduce the manufacturing costs but also increase the flexibility of the line and reduce time to market. On the one hand, our findings should encourage managers to test this technology at their facilities; on the other hand, policymakers should promote the adoption of additive manufacturing, highlighting the potential of this technology within the Industry 4.0 context.

Ethiopia, India and Bangladesh are raising economic power, but have not yet integrated very much with the global economy and still have not achieved their potential in context of technology, globalization, and international competitiveness like developed countries. These countries have much strength, but at the same time , are facing many challenges in the increasingly competitive and fast changing global economy. The main key strengths of these courtiers are their large domestic market, young and growing population, a strong private sector with experience in market institutions, and a well developed legal and financial system. In today’s environment of global competition, technological development and innovation; companies, especially manufacturing, are forced to reconfigure their manufacturing and management processes. Industry 4.0 and intelligent manufacturing are part of a transformation, in which manufacturing and information technologies have been integrated to create innovative systems of manufacturing, management and ways of doing business. This system allows optimizing manufacturing, to achieve greater flexibility, efficient production processes and generate a value added proposal for their customers, as well as to provide a timely response to their market needs. The objective of this work is to explore the Industry 4.0, smart manufacturing, environment requirement and relation of innovation in perspective of developing countries.

In this study, the periodical differences of industrial revolutions, which is one of the effects of technological developments in the industrial field, and the last stage of it are mentioned. With the latest industrial revolution called Industry 4.0, machines work in harmony with technology at every stage of industrial areas. This period, known as Industry 4.0 or the fourth industrial revolution, refers to the system in which the latest production technologies, automation systems, and the technologies that make up this system exchange data with each other. In addition to the information technologies and automation systems used in Industry 3.0, industrial production has gained a whole new dimension with the use of the internet. With internet networks, machines, operators, and robots now work in harmony. At this point, the concept of internet of objects becomes important. Therefore, another focus of the study is the concept of internet of objects. There are some assumptions about the uses, benefits, and future status of the internet of things.

This chapter presents the evolution and perspectives of management accounting in the digital economy. The main objectives of this chapter are to present the different conceptual approaches of the digital economy and Industry 4.0, the B20 pillars and their impact on the management accounting, the role of management accounting and of the management accountant in the new economy, forecasts and solutions regarding the adaptation of the management accounting to the digital economy, and cost management of the implementation of innovative information technology. All aspects presented are based on national and international professional studies and attempt to present the current state of the themes addressed. The chapter ends with the author's conclusions regarding management accounting in the digital economy. Through the authors' contribution, the chapter offers perspectives and solutions to increase knowledge to implement information technologies and adapt accounting management to these innovative waves.

Industry 4.0 marks the beginning of the so-called fourth industrial revolution. The new emerging information technologies, such as internet of things, cloud computing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, among others, have challenged the management and organization of industrial companies. They have now shorter market response times, higher quality requirements, and customization needs, which challenges many industrial areas from production to maintenance, from design to asset management. The maintenance and asset management condition and the reliability of production lines are closely linked and constitute key areas of good industrial operation. This work seeks to present a roadmap proposal for the management of industrial assets from maintenance management. In addition, it seeks to identify the key elements for a roadmap design and proposes a set of management questions to assess maintenance maturity.

The world is witnessing an all-level digitalization that guides the industry and business to a restructuration in order to adapt to the new requirements of the surrounding environment. That change also concerns the labour of the technical professionals and their formation. As a consequence of this deep consciousness-raising, this chapter will investigate and develop simulation models based on the current digitalization. The aim of this chapter is the exposition of a real case development of “digital twin” models framed as part of the condition-based maintenance paradigm to improve real-time assets operation and maintenance. This model contributes by providing real-time results that could turn into a basis for the industrial management decisions and place them in the Industry 4.0 paradigm environment.
