Telemedicine and clinical genetics: Establishing a successful service

There is a surprising lack of published experience on the use of videoconferencing in clinical genetics. Patients were randomly allocated to either a telegenetic (cases) or face-to-face (control) conventional clinic. The telegenetic consultation was done by videoconferencing, using ISDN lines at 384 kbit/s. Evaluation by the doctor and counsellor took place immediately after each appointment. The patient was asked to evaluate the appointment by telephone questionnaire about four weeks after the event. Forty-two patients were invited to participate and 33 (79%) returned their consent forms. Four patients declined to participate and were seen in ordinary face-to-face clinics. Preliminary results showed that the assessment of the telegenetics consultations by doctors, counsellors and patients was very favourable, and they responded positively when asked if they would be happy to use telemedicine in the future. For use in selected consultations, videoconferencing does appear to fulfil a useful role in clinical genetics.

The students associated with the educational sector are facing a restructuring educational system for being pushed out of school by the elongated countrywide new-normal situation during COVID-19. In this pandemic situation, the virtual mode is welcome in the absence of a face-to-face conventional mode of examination. So, participants' satisfaction, acceptance, and preference of exam mode need to be focused on. This paper addresses the determinants of satisfaction, acceptance, and preference among the students of the Medha-Britthi examination. Data has been collected through a Telephone questionnaire survey from the participants of the school level of Bangladesh at the Maizbhanderi Medha-Britthi (scholarship) examination. The data has been analyzed using SPSS according to their responses on their satisfaction, acceptance & preference of examination mode for the future. The result shows that according to their level of satisfaction, examinee communication, time & cost-effectiveness, and ICT effectiveness, most of the students have preferred the online examination mode for the future. Few students have preferred conventional methods for a lack of digital devices, ICT efficacy, or lack of interest. This study also will take appropriate measures to overcome the barriers faced by the participants so that the preferable mode can be continued in the future.

Abstract Introduction COVID-19 has placed unprecedented demand on services at ELHT and it has become necessary to have telephone clinics to reduce the number of face-to-face clinics. A ‘telephone triage clinic’ was set up for referrals from A&E. Our project evaluated patient and clinician satisfaction on this. Method We carried out a retrospective telephone questionnaire with patients over a one-week period during the pandemic. We focussed on overall satisfaction of the consultation and quality of communication. Consultants were also surveyed for their opinion on the clinics. Results From 30 patients, 77% said they were ‘very satisfied’ with the overall experience. 80% of patients were ‘very satisfied’ with the overall length of the telephone consultation. 50% of patients felt the clinician was only ‘adequately’ able to assess them over the telephone. The consultants were less satisfied with the overall experience of telephone consultation. A common theme was that they felt ED documentation could be improved to help inform ongoing management. Conclusions Overall, patients were satisfied with the consultations. It has been successful in minimising face to face consultations however some presentations necessitate further evaluation. We need to identify those injuries appropriate for virtual follow up and design a local protocol for these.

Professional truck drivers frequently face the challenging task of manually backwards manoeuvring articulated vehicles towards the loading bay. Logistics companies experience costs due to damage caused by vehicles performing this manoeuvre. However, driver assistance aimed to support drivers in this special scenario has not yet been clearly established. Additionally, to optimally improve the driving experience and the performance of the assisted drivers, the driver assistance must be able to continuously adapt to the needs and preferences of each driver. This paper presents the VISTA-Sim, a platform that uses a virtual reality (VR) simulator to develop and evaluate personalized driver assistance. This paper provides a comprehensive account of the VISTA-Sim, describing its development and main functionalities. The paper reports the usage of VISTA-Sim through the scenario of parking a semi-trailer truck in a loading bay, demonstrating how to learn from driver behaviours. Promising preliminary results indicate that this platform provides means to automatically learn from a driver’s performance. The evolution of this platform can offer ideal conditions for the development of ADAS systems that can automatically and continuously learn from and adapt to an individual driver. Therefore, future ADAS systems can be better accepted and trusted by drivers. Finally, this paper discusses the future directions concerning the improvement of the platform.

Describes the progress made toward implementing <i>Resource Description and Access</i> (RDA) in libraries across Canada, as of Fall 2013. Differences in the training experiences in the English-speaking cataloging communities and French-speaking cataloging communities are discussed. Preliminary results of a survey of implementation in English-Canadian libraries are included as well as a summary of the support provided for French-Canadian libraries. Data analysis includes an examination of the rate of adoption in Canada by region and by sector. Challenges in RDA training delivery in a Canadian context are identified, as well as opportunities for improvement and expansion of RDA training in the future.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the reaction of Greeks to this new educational reality due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Since the first restrictive measures were implemented in March 2020in Greece, distance learning has become a dynamic part of people’s daily lives with the prospect of remain in gas such in the future. A total of N=170 students, parents, teachers, civil servants, private sector employees who were involved in the distance learning process either as instructors or as students in the period of Covid-19 pandemic in Greece, were selected with the use of snowball sampling. A questionnaire using demographic and satisfaction related variables was completed by the respondents, namely citizens across Greece, based on a Likert scale questionnaire which is a useful and multidimensional instrument, to assess satisfaction within the time frame from July 7, 2020 to October 20, 2020; the period when there occurred a loosening in the restrictive measures between the two lockdowns in Greece. It was investigated how the demographic factors, specifically gender, age, occupation, and place of residence, influence the attitude of the respondents towards synchronous and asynchronous distance learning as well as their intention to continue using online education services in the future after the lifting of the restrictive measures. Additionally, the customers’ preferences concerning the most enjoyable distance learning experience were examined, so that they will be available to the distance learning program designers. Descriptive statistical analysis and non-parametric statistical hypothesis tests were conducted in SPSS and R. Most of the respondents had not participated in online courses before the Covid-19 outbreak, 46 % did participate in e-learning courses before the Covid-19 lockdown while 54 % did not and 34.1% respondents prefer face-to-face learning, while 15.9% prefer e-learning. Also, 50% respondents prefer a combination of face-to-face learning and e-learning. Hypothesis tests showed that there are statistically significant differences between users’ preferences as well as regarding their demographic characteristics. Undergraduate and postgraduate university students continue to participate in online learning courses and are willing to invest financial resources and time in this new educational process (?2(4)=10.440, p=0.034), unlike high school students who prefer face-to-face learning (p=0.042). The present study will lead to practical implications, such as the formation of e-learning programs which aim for the best user experience and the best learning outcomes. Also, private educational organizations can include the results in the key elements to implementing a strategic marketing mix.

In the summer of 1928 and 1929, we had to work on an expedition to study the endemic goiter in the Mariob region. It is impossible to cover in a journal article the enormous amount of material that these expeditions brought (mainly in 1929), its processing is still ongoing and the publication of data in special works of the expedition is a matter of the future; but already at the present time it is possible to share some preliminary results that are of interest to a wide medical community.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, lectures must be conducted online. This research is a survey research to find out the perception of students in participating in online learning. Survey of Musamus University students in 6 faculties with a total of 262 respondents. Respondents were selected by proportionate stratified random sampling. The instrument used is a questionnaire made in google form with a total of 21 questions. Data analysis was carried out by calculating the percentage of each answer for each question item. Through this research, the results obtained are (1) Students realize online learning is a learning solution during the Covid-19 pandemic; (2) Students are happy with participating in online learning; (3) Students are enthusiastic to complete assignments; (4) Students realize that through the assignment of lecturers their knowledge is increasing; (5) Students find online learning beneficial for them; (6) Students have mastered the use of online learning platforms; (7) Students hope that online learning will no longer be carried out in the future. Students also prefer face-to-face learning compared to blended learning and online learning, but some students have realized that the blended learning model is an alternative in learning that can be applied in the future
