Peripheral intravenous (IV) catheters can break off while still in the patient, with possible detrimental effects such as upstream migration to the heart. These catheters have probably been damaged by the needle during a difficult insertion. A peripheral IV catheter was removed in a 90 year old patient and only half of the catheter was retrieved. By using ultrasound examination the remaining part of the IV catheter was identified, and retrieved surgically, before it could migrate towards the heart. This case report suggests that ultrasound should not only be used for difficult placement of a peripheral IV catheter, but can also be used when removal is complicated.

A case of umbilical vein thrombosis is presented. Thrombotic masses were detected inside umbilical vein during ultrasound examination on the gestation age 40 weeks and 4 days. Such serious complication probably caused by decompensation of chronic placenta insufficiency in post-term pregnancy. In result reduce blood speed and forming thrombus inside umbilical vein

We report a case of a 55-year-old male patient who presented with swelling over his right elbow of 5-year duration. An ultrasound examination revealed an echogenic mass within the olecranon bursa. On magnetic resonance imaging, the mass revealed the signal intensity of fat, and it was attached to the bursal lining by means of a pedicle. There was no restriction on diffusion-weighted images and no significant contrast enhancement. Excision was performed under local anesthesia. The excised specimen revealed mature fat cells on histopathology.

A 15 years young fair girl presented with primary amenorrhoea. Findings on her physical examination included short stature, cubitus valgus, slightly webbed neck, absent of secondary sexual characters, broad chest with widely spaced nipples and absence of pubic & axillary hair. Except for the above, her systemic examination was unremarkable. A gynecological examination failed to reveal any abnormality. Ultrasound examination of abdomen revealed absent uterus and ovaries. Serum T3, T4 were within normal level, but TSH level was in slightly raised. Plasma FSH & LH were high with low estradiol level suggestive of hypergonadotrophic hypogonadism. Karyotyping confirmed the diagnosis of Turner ’s syndrome (45, X0). TAJ 2010; 23(1): 91-94

Adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder is defined as hypertrophy of the gallbladder mucosal epithelium that invaginates into a thickened muscularis propria, leading to the formation of intramural diverticula. It is typically considered a benign condition most commonly affecting adults and, rarely, children. In this case report, we present a case of gallbladder adenomyomatosis in a 3-month-old infant. The diagnosis was made incidentally on ultrasound examination of the abdomen, in an otherwise asymptomatic child with no laboratory test abnormalities and no underlying disease. The purpose of this case report is to make infantile adenomyomatosis and its implications known to clinicians, as the literature on this topic is limited. To the best of our knowledge, this is the youngest reported case of adenomyomatosis in the pediatric population.

Epistaxis is a common emergency, and its main causes are hypertensive crisis and trauma. Nasal packing is the primary treatment. After active symptomatic treatment, the symptoms of epistaxis effectively can be controlled. In this case report, the patient was treated with epistaxis many times in the outpatient department. After nasal examination, there was a clear bleeding point, and it was treated with gauze packing or silver nitrate cauterization. The symptoms of epistaxis gradually got worse and was accompanied with fever and progressive anemia. After blood culture and color Doppler ultrasound examination, it was confirmed that it was endocarditis caused by defective hypoxic bacterial infection. After active antibacterial and surgical treatment, the symptoms of epistaxis, fever and anemia were relieved.

Gynecomastia is hypertrophy abnormality of male’s breast gland soft tissue. In that case, the mammography is difficult to show the malignant masses. The ultrasonography is often useful and really important examination to confirm the diagnosis by showing retroareolar hypoechoic mass and or elevation of hyperechoic on parenchyma gland. Gynecomastia is very rare cases in older man. This case report shows 67 years old patient on compos mentis state, who has left breast enlargement.

Abstract Background Congenital megaduodenum is a rare disorder; however, its prenatal diagnosis has not been reported previously. We report the case of an abdominal cystic mass in a fetus that was later diagnosed as megaduodenum. Case presentation An abdominal cystic mass was found during ultrasonography of a fetus at 11 weeks of gestation. The mass progressively enlarged with gestation. The amniotic fluid volume decreased and then returned to normal. During the last prenatal ultrasound examination, the mass was observed communicating with the stomach; therefore, duodenal dilation was suspected. Finally, the patient was diagnosed with megaduodenum caused by a developmental defect in the nerve plexus. Conclusions Congenital megaduodenum is a differential diagnosis of massive fetal abdominal cystic masses. Ultrasound examinations of such masses communicating with the stomach may help determine the diagnosis.

High flow priapism caused by perineal trauma is a relatively rare disorder. Early diagnosis represents a mandatory condition for the therapeutic resolution. Ultrasound examination is affordable and a within reach method for diagnosis also in an emergency context. We present the case of a 56-year-old male patient with traumatic priapism which was subsequently investigated by contrast-enhanced ultrasound and shear wave elastography. This may be one of the first cases presented in the literature
