The article discusses the media discourse, analyzes its role in shaping the picture of the world of modern person: the typological features of the media text, the means and techniques of speech impact on the audience are highlighted. In the study of media texts, the author used the method of discursive analysis. As a result of an experimental study, linguistic techniques and means were revealed by which mass media influence the formation of public opinion, control communication in society. After analyzing publications in Russian media, the author comes to the conclusion that many of the linguistic techniques used in socio-political discourse today are mostly manipulative in nature, and are a powerful tool in the information confrontation. The identification of these tools and techniques, their systematization allows us to understand the specifics of the formation of the picture of the world of modern person, especially communication in society.

The article presents a linguoculturological analysis of key concepts of national vision in the Russian and Chinese mass media. It offers substantiation of a conceptual view of the world objectified in a media discourse. The concepts, as cognitive-linguistic structures, are supported by the background knowledge of the addressee and the addresser, involve the meanings of the proto-text, stimulate an adequate interpretation of the media text and ensure the effectiveness of its impact on the cognitive, emotional and behavioral levels of consumer’s perception. The space of such a media text forms a mental landscape, which is a set of values that reflect the spectrum of people’s life on a certain territory and that are broadcast over time in the paradigm of «past – present – future». Based on research in the field of cognitive linguistics and psycholinguistics, journalism, social philosophy, it is argued that the new media technologies, textual and formatted ones are controlled by a collective cultural memory. The empirical base of the study was more than 500 texts of Russian and Chinese mass media. The cultural landscape of the media discourse is represented by texts in which the nuclear concepts of the national view of the world in Russia and China are embedded: collectivism (collegiality), patriotism. The article describes the features of these concepts’ representation in conjunction with the process of objectification of the dominant cultural values of China and Russia. An intensive representation of the concepts in mass media provides necessary national identification in Russian and Chinese societies, allows to implement the cultural hereditary function of the media and to protect the primordial traditions of the society, to transmit the ideals and cultural heritage of the previous generations.

<p>This article focuses on an inaccurate understanding of Islam that causes hatred, anxiety, and unfounded fear of the Muslim community. On account of this view of Islam, Muslims face hostility, discrimination, intolerance, and racism. This attitude is increasingly seen in mass media propaganda that presents a partial and inaccurate view of the religion. Islam is presented as a violent belief system and is responsible for radicalism and terrorism. The media greatly influences social reality. They function as a spectacle, but they also influence public opinion on a range of issues. The research design of this paper uses literature review with descriptive analysis. The results show that internalizing the Islamic value of <em>rahmatan lil alamin</em> (“being a mercy to the world”) through the media is a solution that can rectify misconceptions about Islam. Along with the foundation of <em>amar ma’ruf nahi munkar </em>(“enjoining the good and forbidding the evil”), the value of “being a mercy to the world” can transform people into educators (<em>muaddib</em>), agents of correct information (<em>musaddid</em>), reformers (<em>mujaddid</em>), unifiers (<em>muwahhid</em>), and fighters (<em>mujahid</em>).</p><p> <em></em></p><p>Artikel ini fokus terhadap pemahaman Islam dengan perspektif yang salah, sehingga menimbulkan kebencian, kecemasan, dan ketakutan yang tidak berdasar serta berlebihan kepada individu maupun komunitas Islam. Akibatnya timbul permusuhan, diskriminasi, intoleransi, dan rasisme. Sikap ini semakin terlihat melalui propaganda media massa yang menampilkan kontroversi yang tidak benar dan parsial terhadap Islam, media merepresentasikan Islam dengan kekerasan dan radikal melalui fenomena terorisme. Kehadiran media sangat berpengaruh terhadap realitas sosial yang tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai tontonan tetapi menjadi tuntunan yang menggiring opini publik dalam merubah sikap, pandangan, dan perilaku. Desain penelitian menggunakan <em>literature review</em> dengan analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Internalisasi nilai-nilai Islam <em>rahmatan lil alamin</em> melalui media merupakan solusi dalam meluruskan pemahaman yang keliru tentang Islam, yang berfungsi sebagai pendidik (<em>muaddib</em>), agen informasi yang benar (<em>musaddid</em>), menjadi pembaharu (<em>mujaddid</em>), pemersatu (<em>muwahhid</em>), dan pejuang (<em>mujahid</em>) dengan dasar <em>amar ma’ruf nahi munkar.</em></p>

Over the last decades, scholars have reported a high level of xenophobia in Russia, which persists and spreads amidst all strata of the population. This shows the significance of the migration issue in the country and its topicality in the public discourse. However, the explanatory models used to analyze the perception of immigrants in Western countries do not find absolute empirical support in Russia. For this reason, researchers emphasize the importance of media discourse as a leading factor in constructing attitudes toward the foreign migrants in Russia. We take into account, firstly, the persistence of xenophobic attitudes among Russians, and secondly — the role of the migrants’ image, constructed by mass media, in shaping the perception of the immigrants among the locals. In this regard, this article hypothesizes that despite the official ban of the “hate language” and ethnization of crime, the negative representation of immigrants not only persists in the Russian media discourse, but is unfortunately increasing. To test this hypothesis, we utilize the results of research on the representation of immigration in Russian media discourse published between 2010 and 2020, which we analyze in the methodological framework of critical discourse analysis. We conclude that at the end of the current decade, there have been certain improvements in the media coverage of the migration issue, caused by the shift of the spotlight onto other problems, thus, the negative images of immigrants simply were not a part of the media agenda. On the one hand, this can help reduce ethnic tensions, although on the other, it complicates the development of the culture of interaction between the local and immigrant communities, since the national and cultural characteristics of migrants and their experience of living in Russia remain underrepresented in the media.

This article analyses the linguistic-informational model of the representation of the image of China in Russian and Chinese media discourse today. When screening Russian and Chinese sources, the authors applied contextual analysis (with an emphasis on the implicit content of the country’s media image), descriptive method, method of cultural interpretation, and content analysis. In the current situation of information and psychological wars (term by A.P. Skovorodnikov), using the image of a country becomes the starting point in the mass media matrix of the onomastic concept for accentuating the perception of the geopolitical toponym (geopolitonym). For the first time, the authors propose the notion of a mass media matrix of an onomastic concept for understanding the cognitive side of media images of geopolitonymic objects. The geopolitonym China does not just form a virtual image of the country in media discourse, but also acts as a multidimensional construct of the linguistic worldview in the producer–recipient system. In onomastics, the geopolitonym traditionally denotes names of countries, regions, and significant historical areas that have an impact on human awareness in a civilizational context. The media image of a country is a topologically-oriented multi-layer model of the territory for the recipients of the media discourse. The authors clarify O.N. Sorokina’s concept of the information model, highlighting the linguistic component that was and remains the leading one in media discourse. Furthermore, the authors introduce the concepts of linguoinforneme and linguistic-informational step from the point of view of the structure of the linguistic-informational model. The linguistic-informational model, according to the authors’ suggestion, is implemented in linguoinfornemes using the strategy of linguistic-informational steps. The linguoinforneme constructs a media image of the country in a certain accentological assessment, based on social demand. We found that china’s media image is presented in Russian media discourse in a variety of ways, being implemented in evaluative linguoinfornemes. The country’s media image in Chinese media is constructed based on the traditions of hieroglyphic writing. The authors show what the mythologized/realistic perception of the image of China is based on, how it is conditioned by the tasks of the Communist Party of China, how it is related to the strategies of Russian-Chinese cooperation, and how it affects intercultural communication.

The texts published in the Russian mass media on the digitalization processes in China are analysed in the article. The relevance of the study is due to the attention of the Chinese government to the implementation of international cooperation with various countries, including Russia. It is noted that the “Chinese theme” is one of the most relevant in Russian publications. Attention is paid to one of the most popular and dynamically developing areas — digitalization. The author proceeds from the assumption that the media not only reflect news information, but also in a certain way form ideas about a particular object being described. The author notes that significant attention is paid to the development of digitalization in the PRC in Russian newspapers and magazines. It is shown that in the publications of the Russian media, China is represented by one of the world leaders in digitalization, which is supported by the state and its citizens. The contexts, indicating that digitalization is penetrating into different spheres of the country’s life: education, industry, trade, etc., are given. The author comes to the conclusion that an exclusively positive image of digital China is being constructed in the Russian media.

The article is devoted to the analysis of a sarcastic evaluation of a person, which leads to their discrediting in media texts. Sarcastic evaluation is considered in terms of linguistic praxeology: the language and compositional means of nomination, description, and actions are analyzed. In a media text, these means interact with the means of expressing the category of deviance and forming semantic nodes. The category of deviance can manifest itself, on the one hand, in exuberance or the absurd, while on the other, in simplification or insufficiency of the sign revelation. Also, specific sarcastic speech techniques are identified. They are based on the discrepancy of referent and illocutionary meanings in the person’s speech portrait. The study of Russian media discourse about Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg revealed the active use of linguistic means expressing sarcastic evaluation to demonstrate the opposing viewpoint in relation to the transmitted semantic position of “Other”. When the media represents Greta in the totality of her disadvantages, this enters into a polemic against those who support the ideas of this person. With the help of sarcasm, the media shows the absurdness and failure of these ideas. In this case, a sarcastic evaluation becomes an instrument of discrediting not only the person him/herself, but also his/her views and associates. Linguistic means of sarcastic evaluation are widely represented in discrediting media texts. The most important of them are means such as absurdity, hyperbole, alogism, simplification, etc.

The prevalence of autism is growing, the problems of stigmatization and discrimination of people with autism spectrum disorders in society are exacerbating. The mass media play an important role in enlightening and reducing stigmatizing effects, in connection with which the goal was formulated to study the construction of images of a person with ASD in the mass media by the method of qualitative and discourse analysis of video clips from the federal channel. According to the results of the study, it can be argued that the range of characteristics used to describe people with autism in media discourse is diverse, but in retrospect, dominant interpretation models can be identified. At an early stage, the prevailing image of a person with ASD was deprived of the quality’s characteristic of normotypical people who do not want to leave their world. People diagnosed with autism were referred to as the intolerant category of "autistic". Since 2013, there has been a discursive turn, within which the category “autist” is replaced by tolerant speech patterns, adults with autism get into the lens of the media, the topic of uncommunicability as a property of a person with autism is replaced by the intention of the lack of opportunities to communicate, one of the reasons for which is social exclusion. In television stories of recent years, the mass media are actively constructing the image of a person with autism spectrum disorder through his inner world, through the advantages that a person with ASD can have due to his characteristics. However, it cannot be said that there has been a complete change of the image: the old cliches, as a rule, manifest themselves at a more latent level of grammatical constructions and semiotic meanings.

This article examines linguistic framing of Medellin as the city of the musical genre reggaeton in online media discourse, drawing on Fillmore’s frame semantics theory (1977). The most salient frames applied towards Medellin are those of centrality, home, and music, whereby the city’s global significance as a musical hub is emphasized through the terms belonging to the frame of world. The use of components from the frames of crime and drugs suggests that the drug-related past of Medellin is integrated into its new cultural profile. Another part of the new Medellin brand are the city’s residents themselves, who are credited with supporting local reggaetonero/as, and are typically referred to with overtly positive vocabulary from the frames of love, help, and home. Although some texts evoke negative stereotypes about reggaeton, the media mostly present the Medellin reggaeton scene through the frames of success, power, and business.
