Abstract Terasi is a cooking spice made from fermented shrimp and is often found in the market. It is relatively affordable and easy to find, so people flavor it as a flavor enhancer for their food. The abuse of Rhodamine B as a Food Additive (BTP) in terasi is often done by the producers. This study aimed to analyze the Rhodamine B content in the terasi sold at the Pasar Belik, Pemalang Regency. The study was conducted in a descriptive observational manner where the sample was analyzed qualitatively and if the result were positive it would be followed by quantitative. The study was conducted in December 2020. Rhodamine B content in tersi was analyzed by univariate test. Qualitative analysis was carried out by chemical methods using 10% NaOH, Petroleum Eter and 10% HCl. The results of the qualitative analysis of 7 samples of shrimp paste sold at the Belik Market in Pemalang Regency were all negative and did not contain Rhodamine B. Shrimp samples that were bought and sold at the Pasar Belik in Pemalang Regency showed that they were free from Rhodamine B Keywords: rhodamine B, shrimp paste, qualitative analysis, food additives

The inclusion of 50% of dried Indigofera enneaphylla in the diet arrested the growth of young male albino rats, caused incoordination of their limbs, and was fatal to them. Microscopic evidence of liver cellular abnormality was consistently observed in rats fed on the plant. Chemical analysis of I. Enneaphylla indicated the presence of combined G-nitropropionic acid, paralleling the findings of other workers in respect of I. Spicata, which, in addition, produced liver lesions. Dried I. Enneaphylla contained about 12 p.p.m. of α-tocopherol. According to haemolysis tests, the poisoned rats were not deficient in vitamin E. The administration of liberal doses of α-tocopheryl acetate did not counteract the poisoning. In preliminary experiments, dosing with L-arginine appeared to be partially protective against poisoning by I. Enneaphylla. Autoclaving the dried plant, according to a single feeding trial, resulted in loss of toxicity.

Studies have suggested that modulation of gut microbiota is a viable therapeutic possibility for diabetes. This study evaluated the ability of an edible plant, Gongronema (G.) latifolium Benth (Asclepiadaceae), to modulate the gut microbiome and reduce blood glucose of alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Thirty (30) young, male, albino rats were divided into 6 groups of 5 rats each: Group 1 comprised normal rats; Groups 2 to 4, diabetic rats treated with 200, 400 and 800 mg/Kg body weight of hydro-alcoholic leaf extract, respectively; Group 5, diabetic rats treated with 0.2 mg/Kg glibenclamide (an anti-diabetic drug); and Group 6 comprised untreated diabetic rats. Following induction of diabetes with alloxan injections, the treatments were administered twice daily on a 12-hourly basis by orogastric intubation for 21 days. Thereafter, faecal samples were collected from the animals and subjected to metagenomic analysis, to ascertain the composition and relative abundance of the gut microbiota. There were five dominant bacterial phyla in the rat gut: Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, Spirochaetea and Proteobacteria. Induction of diabetes resulted in observable dysbiosis in the rats. However, treatment of the diabetic rats with G. latifolium extract, ameliorated the state of dysbiosis and resulted in significant increase in species like Lactobacillus (L.) johnsonii, L. reuteri and Prevotella corpri, which are associated with improved glucose metabolism. The plant extract produced the best result at the dose of 400 mg/Kg. The results from this study show that G. latifolium may be used as a therapeutic option for restoration of the microbiome in diabetic patients.

Background: In Egypt, risk assessment of pesticides usage and pesticides misuse to protect plants and increase productivity connected with health hazards and pollution problems have been of public interest. Around the world three million acute poisoning cases from pesticide exposure annually report. Aim of study was to investigate the histopathological alterations, biochemical and genotoxicity adverse effects of synthetic insecticides Diazinon (organophosphorus) and alpha cypermethrin (pyrethroid) which are using for agricultural and public health applications on male albino rats. Methods: Twenty one albino rats were detached into control and two experimental groups. The experimental groups were treated with Diazinon (DIZ) and Alpha-cypermethrin (α-CYP) at sub-lethal dose (1/10 LD50 36.51 and 1.4 mg/kg body weight, respectively) by oral treatment for consecutively 28-days. The male albino rats in control treatment were put in similar surrounding conditions and treated with 5 ml /Kg tap water. Albino rats were killed after completing exposure of 28-days, liver and brain samples were dissected out for processing and sectioning examinations. Results: The obtained results revealed that both tested insecticides induced oxidative damage as appearance by a significant raise in malondialdehyde (MDA) indicating lipid peroxidation and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) damage indicating genotoxicity in the liver and brain. Besides, increase in GSH level and decline in enzymatic antioxidants (GST, CAT, SOD) activities were observed in liver. Marked increase was noticed in GSH levels and GST activity in brain whereas CAT and SOD antioxidant enzymes activity were significantly reduced. Histopathological studies in brain and liver revealed multiplied focal hepatic necrosis, hydropic degeneration of the hepatocytes and portal infiltration inflammatory cells in the liver. Necrosis of neurons, neuronophagia, focal gliosis and cellular oedema, congestion of cerebral blood vessel were noticed in the brain of exposed rats. Conclusion: The histopathological examination of brain and liver tissues and oxidative damage biomarkers showed adverse effects of DIZ or α-CYP insecticides at the tested dose (1/10 LD50).

 Product of fish procecing industry called “juice water” contain a lot amino acid compound. The aim of this study was analyze sonsory characteristic of natural condiment made from” juice water” by product of fishery industry , coated  with karagenan edible. The method of this study of natural condimenent coated karagenan coating where assessed by trained panelis using by sensory attributes (odor, colour apparance and  taste).The result indicate potencial of natural condiment for seasoning development.This research aims to be able to produce natural flavor that made from raw material of liquid waste of stew and coating with edible coating of carrageenan. A natural flavor enhancer, as a food additive, needs to be done a hedonic organoleptic analysis to see the panelist's preference for natural flavorings. The results of a hedonic organoleptic test show that taste and odor are preferred over the texture and appearance of the natural flavorings.
