The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and transformational leadership (TL) style in public schools in Amman, Jordan. A sample consisting of 250 teachers was randomly selected to collect data on their managers’ EI competencies, which are self-awareness (SEA), self-management (SEM), social awareness (SOA), and relationship management (REM), and their TL behaviours using a questionnaire developed based on the literature for the purpose of the current study. All the questionnaires were returned completed and valid for statistical analysis. Four hypotheses were put forward by the study, in which EI was postulated to exert an impact on four dimensions of TL style, namely idealized influence (IDI), inspirational motivation (INM), intellectual stimulation (INS), and individualized consideration (INC). The study deduced a significant and positive effect of EI on all the dimensions of TL. A key contribution of this study is the finding that leaders need not only competencies to transform their subordinates but also a sense of emotional intelligence. Following these results, the implications of the study were derived. One of the most important recommendations indicated that managers have to be trained to acquire emotional intelligence skills.

Methods: descriptive, correlational study, carried out in Portuguese health services, with an intentional non-probabilistic sample, totaling 95 nurse managers. A questionnaire and Conflict Management Scale were used, analyzing the variables of managerial activities and conflict management, with the aid of software. Results: it was identified that 60% of the managers, report having to mediate conflicts daily, and the majority report adopting dialogue in conduct. However, through the Kruskal-Wallis test, it was shown that enforcement strategies in conflict management prevail (p = 0.008), with collaborative ones being more restricted to monthly intervals (p = 0.049). Conclusions: managers perceive the importance of collaboration in the mediation of conflicts, however, in their daily lives; they tend to maintain imposing behaviors, signaling for a little transformational leadership style.

Purpose Existing research has highlighted the need for influential leaders to respond to the evolving social, economic and environmental constraints on the construction industry. Studies on leadership in other sectors have shown that influential leaders tend to demonstrate a high level of emotional intelligence. Little or no research examining relationships between leadership style and emotional intelligence has been conducted specific to construction project managers. This study aims to identify the prevalent leadership style adopted by construction project managers and investigate potential correlations between leadership style and emotional intelligence. Design/methodology/approach An online questionnaire including a mix of open and closed questions was adopted to address the research objectives. The group studied comprised project managers currently working in the construction industry in New Zealand and the UK. Findings The research found that transformational leadership style is prevalent among project managers examined in this study. Significant positive relationships were found between project managers’ emotional intelligence and their likelihood of adopting a transformational leadership style. Originality/value The research results provide the construction industry with a benchmark against which individuals with high emotional intelligence, and so most suited to the challenges of the project management role, can be identified and trained. Recommendations including suitable methods for identifying, recruiting and training project managers, as well as secondment and mentoring options, were suggested for improving leadership capabilities in the construction industry.

Abstract Transformational leadership style and emotional intelligence are aiding managers’ performance. This study explained the influence that transformational style and emotional intelligence flexibility subscale have on organizational performance during change initiatives. Emotional intelligence and leadership theory represent the theoretical lens and framework in the research study. Emotional intelligence flexibility subscale was assessed with the Emotional Quotient Inventory 2.0 (EQi 2.0), and transformational style was assessed with the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ 5X). The study included a population of 180 managers from a nonprofit company in Texas, USA. Data collected were analyzed using multiple linear regression and Pearson correlational model to assess if a relationship existed between managers’ emotional intelligence flexibility subscale and transformational style. The results showed a relationship between the emotional intelligence flexibility subscale and the transformational style. This research study may be beneficial to leaders in all industries undergoing organizational change to apply emotional intelligence flexibility subscale and transformational leadership style during the implementation of change initiatives.

The major purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationships between two measures of emotional intelligence: performance-based ability test, self-reported measure of ability emotional intelligence, and transformational leadership. Base on a sample of 177 middle-level and low-level leaders, in 16 organizations, the study tries to explain the role of emotional intelligence in the variance of transformational leadership style, after controlling for cognitive ability and five factors of personality. Vocabulary Emotion Test (VET-3), representing performance-based ability test of emotional intelligence, and Emotional Skills and Competence Questionnaire (ESCQ-45), representing self-report measure of emotional intelligence, TN-10 test of fluid intelligence and BFI - inventory of personality traits were administered to all supervisors in identifying their emotional intelligence, cognitive ability and personality traits. To evaluate the transformational leadership style, the short version of a Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ X5) was used for 177 selfratings. The results show that VET-3 as the measure of ability EI has no relationship with transformational style. The results obtained in hierarchical regression analysis of self-ratings transformational leadership show that the personality traits were significant predictors but that selfreport measure of EI incrementally explained 5% of the variance of transformational leadership.
