Morpheus Web Testing: A Tool for Generating Test Cases for Widget Based Web Applications

Context: Widgets are reusable User Interfaces (UIs) components frequently delivered in Web applications.In the web application, widgets implement different interaction scenarios, such as buttons, menus, and text input.Problem: Tests are performed manually, so the cost associated with preparing and executing test cases is high.Objective: Automate the process of generating functional test cases for web applications, using intermediate artifacts of the web development process that structure widgets in the web application. The goal of this process is to ensure the quality of the software, reduce overall software lifecycle time and the costs associated with tests.Method:We elaborated a test generation strategy and implemented this strategy in a tool, Morpheus Web Testing. Morpheus Web Testing extracts widget information from Java Server Faces artifacts to generate test cases for JSF web applications. We conducted a case study for comparing Morpheus Web Testing with a state of the art tool (CrawlJax).Results: The results indicate evidence that the approach Morpheus Web Testing managed to reach greater code coverage compared to a CrawlJax.Conclusion: The achieved coverage values represent evidence that the results obtained from the proposed approach contribute to the process of automated test software engineering in the industry.

To ensure the quality of Web applications, Web testing is one of the effective methods. This paper proposes a Web usage model based on probable FSM (PFSM) which provides a way to derive the test cases for a Web application. The testing process is based on the idea that different parts of the Web application have different execution frequency. This testing method is a significant contribution to informed research.

The consistent modeling of quality requirements for Web sites and applications at different stages of the life cycle is still a challenge to most Web engineering researchers and practitioners. In the present chapter, we propose an integrated approach to specify quality requirements to Web sites and applications. By extending the ISO 9126-1 quality views characteristics, we discuss how to model internal, external quality, and quality in use views taking into account not only the software features, but also the own characteristics of Web applications. Particularly, we thoroughly analyze the modeling of the content characteristic for evaluating the quality of information–so critical for the whole Web application eras. The resulting model represents a first step towards a multi-dimensional integrated approach to evaluate Web sites at different lifecycle stages.

Web applications are the most widely used software in the internet. When a web application is developed and deployed in the real environment, It is very severe if any bug found by the attacker or the customer or the owner of the web application. It is the very important to do the proper pre-analysis testing before the release. It is very costly thing if the proper testing of web application is not done at the development location and any bug found at the customer location. For web application testing the existing systems such as DART, Cute and EXE are available. These tools generate test cases by executing the web application on concrete user inputs. These tools are best suitable for testing static web sites and are not suitable for dynamic web applications. The existing systems needs user inputs for generating the test cases. It is most difficult thing for the human being to provide dynamic inputs for all the possible cases. This paper presents algorithms and implementation, and an experimental evaluation that revealed HTML Failures, Execution Failures, Includes in PHP Web applications.

Abstract In order to solve the problems of low code coverage, few vulnerabilities found, and poor fuzzing effect caused by the small number of test cases and single types in Web fuzzing, on the basis of studying the current Web fuzzing methods, the existing fuzzing Web applications are tested Program research. A genetic algorithm-based method for optimizing fuzzing test cases for Web applications is proposed. It analyzes and counts the traffic of public network website business with Web service attack characteristics, and uses genetic algorithms to generate a large number of test cases with various types to explore the Web service vulnerability that exists. Based on the creation of a Web attack signature database with weights, this method uses genetic algorithms to randomly pre-generate the test cases of the fuzzing test, and uses the response of the Web service to repeatedly iterate the weights of different attack signatures in the Web attack signature database. So as to generate the best test cases. Experimental analysis shows that this method effectively finds security vulnerabilities in Web applications.

Testing is an important part of every software development process on which companies devote considerable time and effort. The burgeoning web applications and their proliferating economic significance in the society made the area of web application testing an area of acute importance. The web applications generally tend to take faster and quicker release cycles making their testing very challenging. The main issues in testing are cost efficiency and bug detection efficiency. Coverage-based   testing is the process of ensuring exercise of specific program elements. Coverage measurement helps determine the “thoroughness” of testing achieved. An avalanche of tools, techniques, frameworks came into existence to ascertain the quality of web applications.  A comparative study of some of the prominent tools, techniques and models for web application testing is presented. This work highlights the current research directions of some of the web application testing techniques.

Cloud computing emerging environment attracts many applications providers to deploy web applications on cloud data centers. The primary area of attraction is elasticity, which allows to auto-scale the resources on-demand. However, web applications usually have dynamic workload and hard to predict. Cloud service providers and researchers are working to reduce the cost while maintaining the Quality of Service (QoS). One of the key challenges for web application in cloud computing is auto-scaling. The auto-scaling in cloud computing is still in infancy and required detail investigation of taxonomy, approach and types of resources mapped to the current research. In this article, we presented the literature survey for auto-scaling techniques of web applications in cloud computing. This survey supports the research community to find the requirements in auto-scaling techniques. We present a taxonomy of reviewed articles with parameters such as auto-scaling techniques, approach, resources, monitoring tool, experiment, workload, and metric, etc. Based on the analysis, we proposed the new areas of research in this direction.

It is shown that the application of the Internet technologies is relevant in the selection of crop production technologies and the formation of a rational composition of the machine-and-tractor fl eet taking into account the conditions and production resources of a particular agricultural enterprise. The work gives a short description of the web applications, namely “ExactFarming”, “Agrivi” and “AgCommand” that provide a possibility to select technologies and technical means of soil treatment, and their functions. “ExactFarming” allows to collect and store information about temperature, precipitation and weather forecast in certain areas, keep records of information about crops and make technological maps using expert templates. “Agrivi” allows to store and provide access to weather information in the fi elds with certain crops. It has algorithms to detect and make warnings about risks related to diseases and pests, as well as provides economic calculations of crop profi tability and crop planning. “AgCommand” allows to track the position of machinery and equipment in the fi elds and provides data on the weather situation in order to plan the use of agricultural machinery in the fi elds. The web applications presented hereabove do not show relation between the technologies applied and agro-climatic features of the farm location zone. They do not take into account the phytosanitary conditions in the previous years, or the relief and contour of the fi elds while drawing up technological maps or selecting the machine-and-tractor fl eet. Siberian Physical-Technical Institute of Agrarian Problems of Siberian Federal Scientifi c Center of AgroBioTechnologies of the Russian Academy of Sciences developed a software complex PIKAT for supporting machine agrotechnologies for production of spring wheat grain at an agricultural enterprise, on the basis of which there is a plan to develop a web application that will consider all the main factors limiting the yield of cultivated crops.

Content is a key influencing factor in Web Quality of Experience (QoE) estimation. A web user’s satisfaction can be influenced by how long it takes to render and visualize the visible parts of the web page in the browser. This is referred to as the Above-the-fold (ATF) time. SpeedIndex (SI) has been widely used to estimate perceived web page loading speed of ATF content and a proxy metric for Web QoE estimation. Web application developers have been actively introducing innovative interactive features, such as animated and multimedia content, aiming to capture the users’ attention and improve the functionality and utility of the web applications. However, the literature shows that, for the websites with animated content, the estimated ATF time using the state-of-the-art metrics may not accurately match completed ATF time as perceived by users. This study introduces a new metric, Plausibly Complete Time (PCT), that estimates ATF time for a user’s perception of websites with and without animations. PCT can be integrated with SI and web QoE models. The accuracy of the proposed metric is evaluated based on two publicly available datasets. The proposed metric holds a high positive Spearman’s correlation (rs=0.89) with the Perceived ATF reported by the users for websites with and without animated content. This study demonstrates that using PCT as a KPI in QoE estimation models can improve the robustness of QoE estimation in comparison to using the state-of-the-art ATF time metric. Furthermore, experimental result showed that the estimation of SI using PCT improves the robustness of SI for websites with animated content. The PCT estimation allows web application designers to identify where poor design has significantly increased ATF time and refactor their implementation before it impacts end-user experience.
