Medicinal plants have been used by the people of Gorontalo as a hereditary tradition. But this knowledge has not spread to the wider community because the traditional wisdom about medicinal plants has not been documented, stored and managed properly by employing digital tools. The purpose of this study is to prepare an inventory of the traditional medicinal plants and the details of their uses in Atinggola, North Gorontalo district, Indonesia. Data has been collected by ethnobotanical survey method and analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method. The study has shown that 38 species of medicinal plants, belonging to 20 families, are used to cure many diseases by the traditional healers of Atinggola. Among them, 6 species are used to treat fever, 5 species to treat skin diseases, 2 species each to treat cancer, gastrointestinal diseases, liver diseases, and as body tonic to restore power; 1 species each to treat toothache, malaria, tonsillitis, allergies, eye irritation, wound infections and tuberculosis (TBC). Plant parts used in the treatment practices are leaf, fruit, flower, rhizome, root, stem, seed, shoots, midribs parts, etc. However, the most dominant part used is the leaf of the plants. Various methods such as boiling, squeezing, scraping, chewing, smashing, brewing, etc. are used to prepare the medicines. 29 species (76.31%) of medicinal plants are collected from cultivated sources such as backyards and gardens while 9 species (23.68%) are still sourced from forests.

Meghalaya, the hilly state, is one of the seven states of North-Eastern region of India. This small state was carved out of Assam and made a full –fledged state on 21st January 1972. The Khasi, Jaintia, Bhoi and War, are collectively known as the Hynniewtrep people and they predominantly inhabit the districts of Eastern Meghalaya. Indigenous people are generally very knowledgeable about the wild medicinal plants around them, many of them have local names and are important to the people as folklore. The present topic is chosen to explore the indigenous knowledge of medicinal plants by Khasi tribe in East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya. To explore the knowledge of medicinal plants, many Villagers and traditional healers (Ojhas) who were experienced in practicing indigenous or folk medicine are consulted to gather information. In this review study a total of 30 medicinal plants are documented and information on local names, scientific names, family, habit, plant parts used and medicinal uses of these plants are also given. The documented plant species are used for some common ailments like headache, stomach problems, cold, cough and fever, jaundice, skin diseases, blood pressure and diabetes etc. These plants are taken orally in the form of Swarasa (juices) or Kwatha (decoction). These kinds of traditional practices require scientific validation and documentation of their therapeutics in Ayurveda.

Abstract Backgraound: The aim of this study was to document and preserve the ethnomedicinal knowledge used by traditional healers of Begumganj upazila, Bangladesh, to treat human diseases and evaluate the relative efficacy of the medicinal plants.Methods: The uses of medicinal plants were documented as an ethnomedicinal data sheet using direct observation, field interview, plant interview and group interview techniques from December 2012 to January 2014 in the study area. Data were collected from 98 traditional healers through a questionnaire survey and analyzed through informant consensus factor and fidelity level.Results: Overall, 75 plant species under 71 genera of 47 families were documented, which are used to treat 41 diseases. Data analysis revealed that 41.33%, 14.67%, 36% and 8% of the medicinal plant species were herbs, shrubs, trees, and climbers, respectively. Leaves were the most used parts, followed by stem, root, fruit, bark, latex and rhizome. The most frequently treated diseases were dysentery, rheumatism and skin diseases.Conclusions: This is the first ethnobotanical survey, which recorded the importance of medicinal plants in Begumgonj upazila, Bangladesh. This study can contribute to preserving the indigenous knowledge on the traditional use of medicinal plants in this region and attract future generations towards traditional healing practice.

Malaria continues to kill over a million people each year. Malaria is caused by parasites of the genus Plasmodium and is one of the leading infectious diseases in many tropical regions including Malaysia. Many of the local people in the rural areas still use plants as remedies against fever and other symptoms of malaria as reported herein. Although the potentials of plants to be useful in traditional healthcare are acknowledged, currently survey and documentation of medicinal plants used by Jakun people in Endau-Rompin, Johor is lacking. As such there is an urgent need to document information on herbal remedies traditionally used for treatment diseases such as malaria and malaria-like symptoms. An ethnobotanical survey of medicinal plants used by the indigenous people in Kg. Peta, Endau-Rompin, Johor for the treatment of malaria and malaria-like symptoms infection was conducted. Data was collected from key informants in that community using a semi-structured interview. Investigation was carried out on the names of plants (vernacular), plant parts used, methods of preparations and how it is administered were all recorded. The result of the survey revealed that 10 plant species from 9 families were regarded for treating malaria and malaria-like symptoms. Leaves and plant sap are the most frequently used plant parts while decoction is the most common methods involved in the preparation. This study acknowledges the local people’s knowledge about malaria and the traditional treatment practices used by the local people in the study area. Herbal remedies are commonly used by the local people because it is cost-effective and more accessible. Hence, the need for documentation of these plants to avoid knowledge erosion and lost in the succeeding generations make this study highly necessary.

Indonesia is the country with the second largest biodiversity after Brazil, where 20,000 species of medicinal plants in which 1,000 species have been documented and 300 species have been used as traditional medicine. Seloliman is a village located on the slopes of Mount Penanggungan, Trawas District, Mojokerto Regency, East Java. The people of Seloliman village still depend on nature, most people still use natural materials for treatment and daily needs. Therefore in this research ethnobotany study and identification of medicinal plants based on local knowledge will be conducted in Seloliman Village, Trawas District, Mojokerto Regency, East Java. The study was conducted by exploring the potential of the community as a place of ethnobotany research with open observation and interview methods. The technique for selecting informants is based on information from local residents or village heads who are most aware of medicinal plants. Collecting data on medicinal plants used for traditional medicine through structured interviews. Data recorded are local names, Latin names, family names, ways of obtaining, parts of plants used, diseases treated, and how they are used. Furthermore, each type of plant used is documented. Based on the results of research conducted is the type of plant used for treatment varies greatly, the plant parts used are mostly the leaves (57%), flowers (10%), and the rest are the stem, bark, rhizome, roots, flowers, fruit and seeds. Sources of plants used are mostly cultivated plants (46%), wild (30%), wild and cultivated (17%) and bought on the market (7%). While the way to use it is mostly boiled. Most of the Seloliman village community, Trawas Subdistrict, Mojokerto Regency, East Java have been influenced by outside cultures, so that their local knowledge about plants used in medicine needs to be further explored in order to be preserved. There are only two speakers (traditional healers) in the village of Seloliman who still hold the tradition related to treatment using natural materials.

An ethnomedicinal study was conducted to document the medicinal plants used, the manner of preparation and application in the treatment of ailments and the consensus in the use of medicinal plants to treat various ailments among four (4) indigenous people's groups, the Obo in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, T'boli in Maitum, Sarangani Province, and Blaan and Tagakaolo in General Santos City. The ethnobotanical interview was conducted using open-ended semi-structured questionnaires among identified traditional healers and elders as well as the household in the community. A total of 136 plants species, mostly herbs (47%), have been recorded with the corresponding conditions or illnesses in which they are believed to exert a therapeutic effect. Plant parts utilized for traditional medicine of the 4 IP groups include leaves (38%), roots (25%) and bark/stem (16%). Decoction (54%) and direct consumption (27%) applied via oral route are the common traditional medicine preparation. The IP communities in the SOCSARGEN Region have a rich pharmacopeia of traditional medicinal plants that persist through time despite the availability and convenience offered by modern medicine. Objective: Identification and ethnobotanical survey was made on the utilization of medicinal plant the tribal community of Vathalmalai Hills in Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu, India. The objective of the study was to identify and documented the medicinal plants traditionally used by tribal people.Methods: The study was conducted from October 2016 to October 2017. The data were collected from local tribal community, they were interviewed using semi-structured questionnaires, and their traditional ethnomedicinal knowledge was recorded. As, we had collecting the information through local tribal peoples, they we are know the plant local names as well as which plants and parts are mostly used in various disease and disorders problems.Results: A total of 82 plant species and belonging to 40 families were identified. They are most frequently used plant parts leaf and most of the medicine prepared in the form powder and paste. The important disease cure for cold, diarrhea, chicken pox, smallpox, cough, headache, and stomach ache.Conclusion: The ethnomedicinal survey of medicinal plants recommended by traditional healers for the treatment of various disease and disorders new areas of research on the antihypertensive effect of medicinal plants. In the case of safety and effectiveness, they can be refined and processed to produce natural drugs.

Background: Dermatological disorders affect people in all age groups and prevail all around the globe. In this regard, medicinal plants play a significant role as they are usually the first line of treatment in dermatological disorders. Because traditional healers in Bangladesh know little about the use of plants to treat different skin diseases, we carried out an ethnobotanical survey of medicinal plants in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) to explore the traditional uses for healing wounds and skin problems. Objectives: This study aimed to list the plants employed as remedies against various dermatological disorders in CHT. Methods: The survey was performed from January 2016 to December 2017 with fieldwork undertaken in CHT of Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachari. Open-ended and semi-structured questionnaires were used for interviewing a total of 387 people comprising traditional healers, Ayurvedic/Unani drug manufacturers, and local inhabitants. A total of 56 plant species of 32 families were documented. The most frequently used plant parts were leaves. The majority of the species were shrub in nature, while paste represented their main mode of drug preparation. Most plants grew wild in forests, with some cultivated in homestead and gardens. Results: There was remarkable diversity in the doses of different plant preparations for various treatments. The presence of identified active compounds can rationalize the conventional use of many plants to treat dermatological disorders in Bangladesh. Conclusion: This documentation accounts for the preliminary information necessary to perform future phytochemical investigations and is vital for the conservation of these plants.

Abstract Background: Plants have been a part of rural area’s people life since prehistoric time, plants is important in the traditional cultures in the worldwide where human used it from birth to end of life. IdigenThis study was carried out to explore and recorded the plants and part used of plants for treating numerous people illness and disease by the traditional healers of the Phouthai ethnic group in Nakeu village, Hinboun district, Khammouan province, middle part Lao PDR for medicinal plants purposes. The current study was conducted, first, to identify plant species used as a remedy for human illness, diseases and health improve, and secondly to determine plant parts used, the technique of preparation and religious belief on the preferred source of healthcare an around Hinboun district, Khammouane province, Lao PDR.Methods: Ethnobotanical data for this paper were gathering from 03 traditional healers, and 69 households, therefore including the household of both gender (husband or wife), and across different level of education, age group, as well as the level of experience and knowledge of medicinal plants use. Plant specimens were collected during field survey which had been collected from natural wild plant and home gardens, information on each medicinal plant was recorded by using the data capture form.Results: We found 79 medicinal plants species, 51 families, and can’t identifies 2 species. Among the tree 44 species, 55.70 %; shrub 20 species, 25.32 %; liana 12 species, 15.19 %; and gasses 3 species, 3.8 %, were used to treat 34 sicknesses. A designation of all recorded species including the plant family names, dialect names, part used, and process to preparation of treatment. The roots are the plant part most commonly used (36.70%), followed by the stem (25.31%), leaves (10.12%), liana (10.12%), whole plant (6.32%), fruits (6.32%), and bark (3.79%). The medicinal plants are prepared using dried plant parts while some other species are using in fresh form. Boiling, soaking with cold water or alcohol, crushing, and burning are main methods of preparation.Conclusion: In this study, 79 medicinal plant species were documented as use in the treatment of different common sickness including stomach problem (gastrointestinal, flatulence, diarrhea, detox), kidney infections, fever, dysmenorrheal postpartum tonic, nervous system, skin disease, health tonic, lever infections, heart disease, dressing wounds, and others.

The use of plants for the treatment of opportunistic skin infections has been on the increase and the current renewed interest in natural products to sustain health globally cannot be over emphasized. A survey of the major ethno medicinal plants was carried out in Itas/Gadau LGA, where some ethno medicinal plants used in treating skin infections and various ailments were documented. The investigation included names and parts of plants used, ailments cured, preparation and administration of local herbs. Data was obtained through the use of administered questionnaire’s distributed at random to traditional healers as target respondents. It was shown that various plant species from 10 families were reported to be used in treating ailments, majority of these plants (72%) are wild, Detarium microcarpum, Carissa edulis and Anogeissus leiocarpus 35.5% were mainly harvested for their stem/bark. About 65.2% constitutes the most frequent route of administration by topical application. The most frequent method of preparation is by grinding and direct application of the powder to the affected area, whereas the most common skin infection treated with the medicinal plants is eczema (39.1) The most reported threat to the availability of medicinal plants is deforestation (43.6%), in some cases additives like edible oil and honey are used in 58% of remedy preparations. It is therefore recommended that the plants used should be investigated to ascertain their safety and efficacy in order to improve the quality of life of man. Background: Medicinal plants are medicinal plants that can relieve pain, increase endurance and treat various diseases. The Oirata tribe is an indigenous tribe of Kisar Island. The community traditionally uses various types of plants as alternative treatments to cure diseases because they are easier to obtain and there are no side effects. Methods: This study uses descriptive methods. Data collection techniques by conducting interviews, observation, questionnaires, and collecting and documenting medicinal plants. Results: Medicinal plants found in the Oirata Tribe of Kisar Island, the Sub district Islands, Southwest Maluku Regency are 31 types of medicinal plants. Plant parts used are roots, bark, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds. How to process traditional medicinal plants is done by boiling, pounding, chopping, squeezing, pasting, wrapping, heating, and some even eaten directly to swallow the water. Conclusion: The way to use it for the people of the Oirata tribe is that it is single because they do not use plants mixed with plants or other raw materials only mixed with water.
