CpMMV is a virus that can decrease soybean production. The virus vector is an insect where the control is carried out using a chemical insecticide that is less environmentally friendly. Developing a superior variety of soybean that is resistant to CpMMV is one of the solutions to solve such a problem. This research aimed to study the relationship of agronomical traits to the yield of soybean line infected by CpMMV. Ten lines and two varieties of soybean with four replications was used in this study in a randomized complete block design. Bemisia tabaci was used in CpMMV infestation as the vector of the disease. Rearing Bemisia tabaci was done forty days before sowing the main experiment, and it placed surrounding the main experiment plots. The observation variables were disease severity, days to flowering and maturity, plant height, length, width and ratio of the leaf, number of branches and reproductive nodes, number of filled and unfilled pods, number of seeds, 100 seeds weight, and seed yield per plant. The data was analyzed for genotypic and phenotypic correlation, and the path analysis for direct and indirect effects of disease severity, and agronomical characters. The results showed that CpMMV infestation caused disease severity by about 20-28.5%. A significant positive phenotypic correlation to the seed yield per plant was shown by the number of reproductive nodes and the 100 seeds weight. Meanwhile, a significant positive genotypic correlation to the seed yield per plant was shown by the days to maturity and the number of branches. The number of reproductive nodes, the 100 seeds weight, and the number of seeds per plant showed a high direct effect to the seed yield per plant. The high positive indirect effect was also shown by the number of filled pods, days to flowering, plant height, leaf length, leaf width, the number of reproductive nodes, and the number of branches through the number of seeds per plant was also. Therefore, the selection criteria for high yielding CpMMV-resistant soybean lines can be based on the number of reproductive nodes and 100 seeds weight.

Estimates of genetic parameters for ten genotypes of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) revealed significant variability for all the traits under study, indicated wide spectrum of variability among the genotypes. The estimates of genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variation were high for plant height, number of seeds per ear and seed yield per plant. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed for plant height, number of seeds per ear and seed yield per plant. Improvement in yield can be made by selecting these yield contributed traits having high heritability coupled with high genetic advance. Genotypic correlations were of higher magnitude as compare to their corresponding phenotypic correlation in most of the character combination, indicating the existence of strong influenced of inherent association for the various characters. Seed yield per plant exhibited significant stable and positive correlation with number of tillers per plant and 100 weight at genotypic and phenotypic level. Thus, it can be inferred that selection based on any one of these characters either alone or in combination, will result in identifying high yielding strains. Path coefficient analysis of genotypic and phenotypic level exhibited high positive and direct effect of number of tillers per plant, number of ear per plant, number of spikelet per ear, length of ear and 100 seed weight on seed yield per plant. Thus any selection based on these characters will enhance performance and improvement seed yield in barley.

Abstract Phenotypic correlation coefficients and heritability of the characters determining seed yield of panicle inflorescence forms of alfalfa was examined. Seed yield per plant, which was positively correlated with 10 generative and morphological traits, depended upon the number of pods per panicle and the number of seeds per pod. Variability of these characters determined about 60% of the variability of seed yield. Multiple linear regression and phenotypic correlations show that simultaneous selection for increased pod number per panicle and increased seed number per pod and number of branches per panicle resulted in enhanced seed yield potential. The share of the additive genetic effects in the phenotypic variance for number of pods per panicle was low and about 23%, while for number of seeds per pod and seeds per panicle amounted to about 75-77% and 56-57% respectively.

To obtain more productive soybean genotypes, it is essential to know the contribution of each agronomic trait to the productivity of soybeans. The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation and path analysis in thirty genotypes of soybeans (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) for eleven traits. The study was conducted in March-June 2019, in an experimental area located at Agro Techno Park, which belongs to Universitas Brawijaya, Malang, East Java Province, Indonesia. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design with three replications. Analysis of correlation showed that the number of branches, number of filled pods, number of seeds per plant, weight of 100 seeds, and weight of seeds per plant had a positive correlation value to the yield. Path analysis showed that the number of seeds per plant had a high positive, direct effect on the yield. The plant height, number of branches, fresh weight and dry weight had an indirect effect on the yield. Based on the result, the number of seeds per plant can be selected as one of the selection criteria in a soybean breeding program to obtain a high-yield soybean variety.

The present study was conducted to evaluate 44 greengram genotypes using correlation, path analysis, principal component analysis and cluster analysis based on ten morphological traits. Basic descriptive statistics showed considerable variance for all the traits. Association analysis indicated that, number of pods per plant, number of pod clusters per plant, number of seeds per pod and number of branches per plant showed significant positive association with seed yield per plant. Path analysis specified that the highest positive direct effect on single plant yield was exerted by days to 50 % flowering, number of pods per plant and number of seeds per pod. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed 79.12 per cent of the variability by the first five components. PC1 was associated mainly with seed yield per plant, number of pod clusters per plant, number of pods per plant and number of branches per plant. The Wards method of hierarchical cluster analysis grouped the accessions into six major clusters. The clustering of greengram genotypes based on different morphological traits would be useful to identify the promising genotypes for effective utilization in future breeding programmes..

Sulphur is a component of plant amino acids, proteins, vitamins, and enzyme structures which influence the productivity of oil seed and total oil content. The experiment was conducted to find out the effect of sulphur on the seed yield and oil content of sesame in Bangladesh. The experiment comprised three varieties of sesame viz. Binatil-2, Binatil-3 and BARI Til-4 and six levels of sulphur (S) viz. 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 kg S ha–1. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Dry matter production, crop characters, yield components, seed yield and oil content were significantly influenced by variety, level of sulphur and their interaction. The highest dry matter production plant–1 at 50 DAS (17.56 g), plant height (101.3 cm), number of branches plant–1 (3.66),  number of pods plant-1 (41.56), number of seeds pod-1 (58.83),  seed yield    (747.2 kg ha-1), stover yield (2243.0 kg ha–1) and oil content (40.03%) were obtained in BARI Til-4 while the corresponding lowest values of all parameters were recorded in Binatil-2. In case of sulphur application, the highest dry matter production plant–1 at 50 DAS (20.81 g), plant height (109.7 cm), number of branches plant–1 (3.87),  number of pods plant–1 (46.13),  number of seeds pod-1 (56.67),  seed yield (800.0 kg ha–1), stover yield (2787 kg ha–1 ) and oil content (43.97%) were obtained when crop was fertilized with 30 kg S ha–1 while the lowest seed yield (502.2 kg ha–1), stover yield (1550.0 kg ha–1) and oil content (32.80%) were obtained in control (0 kg S ha–1). BARI Til-4 fertilized with 30 kg S ha–1 produced the highest dry matter plant–1 at 50 DAS (24.80 g), number of pods plant–1 (51.13), seeds pod–1 (62.0) and seed yield (1011.0 kg ha–1). The highest oil content (43.97%) was also recorded in BARI Til-4 fertilized with 30 kg S ha–1, which was as good as that of BARI Til-4 fertilized with 40 kg S ha–1. Therefore, BARI Til-4 fertilized with 30 kg S ha–1 can be considered as a promising practice in respect of seed yield and oil content of sesame in Bangladesh. J. Bangladesh Agril. This study was aimed to characterize yield components and plant traits related to grain yield. Correlation and path analysis were carried out in wheat genotypes grown under irrigated and non-irrigated field conditions. In the path coefficient analysis, grain yield represented the dependent variable and the number of spikes m-2, number of grains spike-1, kernel weight, days to anthesis, above-ground biomass m-2 and plant height were the independent ones. In both years, periods without rain occurred from early milk to grain ripening and from flag leaf sheath opening to grain ripening for first and second sowing dates, respectively. Character associations were similar in both water regimes. Grain yield showed positive phenotypic correlation with above-ground biomass, number of spikes m-2 and number of grains per spike. Path analysis revealed positive direct effect and moderate correlation of number of spike m-2 and number of grains per spike with grain yield. These results indicated that the number of spikes m-2 and the number of grains per spike followed by the above-ground biomass were the traits related to higher grain yield, under irrigated and late season water stress conditions.

Abstract Rapeseed breeding programs are focused mainly on improving plant potential and seed yield. One of the ways to improve seed yield in oilseed rape is heterosis, which is hybrid vigor that results in a greater biomass, increased seed yield, and faster development. The purpose of this study was to estimate yield-related trait heterosis for single cross and three-way cross hybrids of winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.). A population of 60 doubled-haploid (DH) lines and two generations of hybrids were evaluated in field trials to assess six yield-related traits: plant height, number of branches per plant, number of siliques per plant, silique length, number of seeds per silique, and thousand seed weight. Heterosis effects for each trait were estimated by a comparison of the particular hybrid with: (1) the trait mean over both parents—mid-parent heterosis and (2) to the value of better parent—best-parent heterosis. Traits with clear positive heterosis and traits with varied heterosis were observed in this study. For the first group, we include plant height, silique length, and the number of seeds per silique—a large number of hybrids expressed significant positive heterosis for these traits, independent from the year of observations and the type of hybrid. For the second group, with varied heterosis, we can include the number of branches and siliques per plant and thousand seed weight. For these traits, hybrids exhibited both positive and negative significant heterosis, without a clear pattern for the years and types of hybrids.
