Introduction: Mood swings, anxiety and insomnia are the most common mental disorders that affect the population and are most frequently identified in Primary Health Care. Clonazepam was the most prescribed, with 70.7% (n=116) of the records of use in the medical records. The Defined Daily Dose (DDD) of clonazepam resulted in 3.19 DDD/1,000hab/day, when using DDD 8mg, and 25.57 DDD/1,000hab/day with DDD of 1mg. Conclusion: The chronic use of benzodiazepines in the Family Health Strategy Unitsremains as apublic health problem, and adequate monitoring of these patients is necessary to avoid indiscriminate use. In addition, interventions aimed at providing a better quality of life to users of these drugs should be encouraged.

Psychosocial factors influence family care and can jeopardize child development. This study aimed to analyze the association between maternal common mental disorders and incidence of early dental caries in preschool-age children living in areas covered by the Family Health Strategy in Salvador, Bahia State, Brazil, in a cohort design. A total of 472 children were examined and their mothers were interviewed from 2007 to 2008. Incidence of at least one tooth with caries was 21.19%, while 7.84% of the children showed high risk of caries. The results after adjusting for the child's age and maternal schooling showed that maternal common mental disorders were associated with high caries risk in deciduous teeth (adjusted RR = 2.41, 95%CI: 1.05-5.56, among children with 6 or fewer home appliances in the household; adjusted RR = 3.44, 95%CI: 1.06-11.17, among those that brushed twice or less per day). Maternal mental problems were associated with the development of caries in preschoolers.

The aims of the present study were to characterize the reasons for medical appointments and treatment procedures of elderly people in the Estratégia Saúde da Família ("Family Health Strategy") (ESF), with emphasis on mental health, as well as to identify the prevalence of common mental disorders, and compare this with the approaches described in medical records. A descriptive and cross-sectional study of 219 elderly persons was performed by reviewing medical records and applying a Self-Response Questionnaire (SRQ-20). For this population the average number of appointments per year was three, 42.3% of appointments were to obtain a medical prescription, and 70.9% of medical procedures involved the provision of medical prescriptions. There were eight referrals to specialized mental health services. The most prescribed psychiatric drugs were anxiolytics (55%), and antidepressants (29.7%). A total of 19.6% of the elderly persons had scores above seven in the SRQ-20. It was observed that a large proportion of mental disorders were not detected, and there was a failure in the procedures adopted. More investment in patient flow and the definition of assistance criteria for this population is required.

OBJECTIVES: this study aimed to investigate and understand the use of medications by elderly men, their representations and the subsequent practices. METHODS: this is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study, in which there participated 17 elderly men, with polypharmacy, and assisted under the Family Health Strategy in the Municipality of Dourados in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul (MS). RESULTS: the results show that most of the medications are used for treating cardiovascular disorders. The elderly men develop strategies considering the prescription of these, adapting in line with their own perceptions and meanings. From these tactics emerge representations on youth and old age, in which old age is associated with illness. In addition, practices were observed which sought to associate the use of medications with medicinal plants, re-signifying the process of being ill. Different perspectives of masculinity permeate the use of medications, sometimes reinforcing hegemonic conceptions, and sometimes revealing alternate models of masculinity. The woman is present in the care with the use of the medications. CONCLUSIONS: in this context, the health team, above all that of nursing, must assist the elderly man in his practices of medication, taking into account his representations, his protagonism, and the role of the woman as a support in the care.

Objective: Evaluation of the use and accessibility of the Family Health Strategy using PCATool for the adult population of a quilombola community. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional, quantitative study had the participation of 92 residents of the Quilombola Community of Abacatal, older than 30 years, in the period from April 2015 to June 2015. For data collection, we used the Instrument for Primary Care Evaluation (PCATool) adult version, which consists of 87 items divided into ten components related to the attributes of Primary Health Care (PHC), for the study three dimensions were used: Degree of affiliation; Degree of use; Degree of accessibility. Results: It was shown that the majority of residents resort to the Family Health Strategy (FHS) when they become ill or need advice about their health; and some declared using other services, negatively assessing the attribute use. As for the availability of services, care and communication with the FHS, the answers were mostly negative. Conclusion: It was evidenced that there is no community recognition of the local FHS as its gateway, as it is not considered resolutive, and the study contributed in the sense that, when assessing it, it is indicated occasionally where it is necessary to move towards the achievement of comprehensive and quality care.

ABSTRACT The study aims to analyze the attention given to low risk emergencies in an area of high socioenvironmental vulnerability in Rio de Janeiro, within the scope of the Family Health Strategy and the local Emergency Care Unit. The methodology used relied on a triangulation of data and sources obtained from medical records, direct observation, interviews, and focal groups with managers, workers and users. The service was analyzed according to diagnosis, type of occurrence, and sociodemographic data; the qualitative data was analyzed through thematic analysis, generating the categories: which urgency for which service; territorial issues; access; positive and negative aspects of services. As a result, the Family Health Strategy takes on the function of answering to urgencies. Previous experiences influence the pattern of users’ access. Socio-environmental fragility increases demand, stresses the Strategy’s programmatic service, and can generate risks by the fast treatment at the Emergency Care Unit, which has been a place of hospitalization, due to the scarcity of hospital beds. The two services work with partial integration. The conclusion shows that the levels of satisfaction with the Family Health Strategy indicated by the population and its centrality to the care networks are enhanced by the accommodation of urgencies.

This research aimed to correlate the indicators of Primary Health Care in their structural components with those of the process and with the results in the municipalities of Mato Grosso, Brazil, from 2008 to 2015. This is an evaluative, quantitative, retrospective research with the use of secondary data from information systems. A matrix is composed of components of the structure (potential population coverage) the process (medical consultation, home visit of doctor and nurse, referral to the specialist, and request of clinical pathology exams), and the result (hospitalization rate due to sensitive causes). It was constructed when primary care, the proportion of live births of mothers with seven or more prenatal consultations, and the infant mortality coefficient) and the descriptive analysis and Spearman correlation coefficient (rho) were performed. The study found that population coverage remained high above 83% and the process indicators suggest an improvement in family health strategy, with a reduction of 63.13% in the average referral to a specialist and 49.71% in the request for clinical pathology exams. However, there was a 7.13% reduction in the average home visit during the study period. There is a correlation between the structure and process component and between structure and result. It has been found that with the evolution of the Family Health Strategy, there were changes in some indicators of primary care, but it is not possible to state that there was a change in the care model.

Abstract Objective: The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with the medication consumption among users registered in the Family Health Strategy (FHS) of Rondonópolis, Mato Grosso State, Brazil. Method: The population was constituted of all adult residents in the area covered by the FHS. The Poisson regression model with robust variance was used to the statistical analysis. Results: There were included 553 participants, of which 72% were women. The mean age was 48 years. The prevalence of medication consumption was about 74.9% (n = 414). The most consumed class medication was drugs that act on the cardiovascular system (42.2%). The factors associated with medication consumption were female gender (PR = 1.21; CI95%: 1.07 - 1.38), diagnosed morbidity (PR = 1.83; CI95%: 1.61 - 2.08) and be bedridden in the last month (PR = 1.14; 95% CI95%: 1.02 - 1.26). Moreover, 72.7% of the interviewees obtained the medicines in public pharmacies. Conclusion and implications for practice: Women, people diagnosed with morbidities and those participants who were bedridden during the last month showed the highest levels of drug consumption. Nursing professionals in promoting the rational use of medications can contribute to integral care to FHS users.
