The aim of this article is to examine the impact of the characteristics of overconfident CEO's on determining incentive compensation. The sample consists of 100 US non-financial companies in the S&P 500. The model estimation results, during the period from 2000 to 2010, showed that overconfident executives have a significant negative impact on his incentive compensation. Furthermore, the results of multiple linear regression showed that experienced, and older CEO has a significant and positive impact on the level of incentive compensation.

This research aims to analyze the impact of work environment and workload on employees' work performance. The research object is KSU Islah Citra Mandiri employee in Boyolali. The population was KSU Islah Citra Mandiri Boyolali employees with a total number of 32 people, the samples of which were taken by use of saturated sampling technique. Primary data were collected using questionnaire and analyzed by multiple linear regression to examine the impact of work environment and workload to employees' work performance. The research results indicated that the work environment and workload influence employees 'performance both partially and simultaneously: the work environment has positive impact, while workload has negative impact on employees' performance.

AbstractThe research presented here investigates the impact of the business environment on the formalization of informal firms, using firm-level data for 243 informal firms in Kosovo. The findings indicate that business-environment variables such as limited access to financing, the cost of financing, the unavailability of subsidies, tax rates, and corruption have a significant negative impact on the formalization of informal firms. In addition, firm-level characteristics analysis suggests that the age of the firm also exercises a significant negative impact, whereas sales volume exerts a significant positive impact on the formalization of informal firms. These findings have important policy implications and suggest that the abolition of barriers preventing access to financing, as well as tax reforms and a consistent struggle against corruption may have a positive influence on the formalization of informal firms. On the other hand, firm owners should consider formalization to be a means to help them have greater opportunities for survival and growth.

Abstract Background In patients with Barrett’s esophagus (BE), endoscopic therapy reduces the risk of progression to invasive esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). Data on the impact of endoscopic therapy on patient quality of life (QoL) is limited. Aims We aimed to assess: (1) change in QoL during the course of endoscopic therapy for BE, (2) factors which predict this change, (3) whether achieving complete remission of dysplasia (CRD) or intestinal metaplasia (CRIM) affect the degree of change. Methods We conducted a retrospective observational study using a prospectively maintained database of BE patients treated in Calgary, Alberta from 2013–2020 containing data on demographics, BE disease characteristics and therapeutics, QoL, and follow-up. QoL was determined prior to initiation of therapy and after each treatment session using a validated questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were calculated and change in QoL was compared using a Wilcoxon signed ranks test. Backwards multiple linear regression analysis was performed to determine predictors of change in QoL. Results Of 130 BE patients, 112 (86.1%) were male and 104 (80%) had dysplastic histology or intramucosal carcinoma on index endoscopy. Mean (SD) age was 65.6 (12.0) years. At time of analysis, 76 patients (58.5%) had completed endoscopic therapy, of whom 69 (90.8%) achieved CRIM; 54 patients (41.5%) were still undergoing treatment. There was significant improvement in all QoL measures during the treatment course except for “depression” (Table 1). Patients with CRIM or CRD had reductions in “sleep difficulty” and “negative impact on life” to a significantly greater degree vs patients not achieving CRIM (Δ sleep -0.45 vs 0.0, P=0.002; Δ negative impact -0.4 vs -0.05, P=0.014) or CRD (Δ sleep -0.40 vs +0.60, P=0.002; Δ negative impact -0.40 vs +0.20, P=0.04). Multiple linear regression revealed older age (B=-0.03, P=0.008) and fewer number of EMR sessions (B=0.254, P=0.008) were correlated with greater improvement in QoL. Conclusions Endoscopic therapy improves QoL in BE patients, especially in those achieving CRIM/CRD. Older age and fewer EMRs are correlated with greater improvement in QoL. These results further reinforce the role of endoscopic therapy as the first line treatment of BE and early EAC. Funding Agencies None

Bank profitability plays a significant role in the growth and development of an emerging economy. The purpose of the study was to examine the impact of bank characteristics, industry concentration and macroeconomics variables on commercial bank profitability in Bangladesh from 2007-2017. Bank profitability is proxied by return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE) and net interest margin (NIM). The study is based on secondary data and Hausman test has been performed using STATA software in favor of fixed effect modeling. Panel regressions shows that cost efficiency has significant negative impact on ROA and NIM. The positive impact of loan to deposit ratio with ROA suggests that efficient fund management including investment and assessed expenditure should be emphasized. Bank size has significant negative impact on all the measures of profitability, which indicates that monopolistic competition will reduce banking profit. Credit risk has significant positive impacts on ROE. Industry concentration measured by CR3 is positively related with ROE and has significant negative relation with bank profitability (ROA). Among macroeconomic variables inflation has significant positive and bank spread has significant negative impact on ROE. The coefficients of all the macroeconomic variables have been found to be significantly related to bank profitability while measured by NIM. Our study recommends further research with other explanatory variables such as, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and deposit insurance to accelerate the model and construct the econometric model by using structural equation modeling, mediation effect modeling etc.

The aim of the research presented in the article was to analyse the legitimacy of the use of scoring models in banking activities, together with the assessment of the effectiveness of this tool in reducing the high value of the NPL ratio in Polish cooperative banks on the example of banks belonging to the BPS S.A. association in the period between 2004 and 2020. We used a variety of research methods for this purpose including a depth review of the literature, analysis of statistical data regarding the sector of Polish cooperative banks, analysis of financial data of cooperative banks, construction of an econometric panel model, and the designing a questionnaire (which was later sent to the management board of selected cooperative banks). Our research confirmed the significant impact of the use of scoring models in lending activities on the value of the NPL ratio in cooperative banks. The analysed cooperative banks, which used the scoring models proposed by BIK in their lending activity, showed significantly lower values of the NPL ratio in each analysed year than banks that used other scoring models. Our study also confirmed the different direction of the impact of the models offered by BIK and individual scoring models on the value of the NPL ratio. We have also shown that the scoring models proposed by BIK have a statistically significant negative impact on the level of the NPL ratio, and the banks’ own scoring models have a statistically significant positive impact on the level of the NPL ratio.

ABSTRACT  The research aimed to explore financial performance’s model of the Karanganyar Regency Regional Government. This research tested the impact of size, richness, leverage, and capital expenditure on the financial performance of the Karanganyar Regency Regional Government. Research data were 8 (eight) periods of financial statements. Hypotheses analyzed with multiple linear regression. Analysis results showed that size and richness have a significant positive impact on the financial performance of Karanganyar Regency Regional Government; while leverage and capital expenditure have a significant negative impact on the financial performance of the Karanganyar Regional Government. Those results illustrates that greater size and richness will increase the financial performance; on the contrary, the greater leverage and capital expenditure will decrease the financial performance. The purpose of this research was conducted to know the influence of: (1) Simultaneous Non Performing Loan and Loan to Deposit Ratio against Return On Asset, (2) Partial Non-Performing Loan against Return On Asset and (3) partial Loan to Deposit against Return On Asset Corporate Banking the Go Public period 2010 – 2012.The research uses quantitative research plans. The research subject is a banking company that go public from 2014 – 2016 and the objects are Non Performing Loan, Loan to Deposit Ratio and Return On Asset.Data collected using documentation methods and analyzed with multiple linear regression analyses. The results showed that (1) Non Performing Loan and Loan to Deposit Ratio simultaneously had significant effect on Return On Asset.(2) Non Performing Loan partially negative effect on Return On Asset, (3) Loan to Deposit Ratio positively affects the Return On Asset of the banking company listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange.The value of the coefficient of determination (adjusted R2) of 0.323 or 32.3%, this translates to 32.3% of ROA variations that can be explained by variations of independent variables of the NPL and LDR.The remaining 67.7% is explained by other reasons outside of the regression model.Based on the results of multiple linear regression analyses indicating that the NPL has a significant negative impact on ROA, LDR has a significant and positive effect on Roa, NPL and LDR.

Background: Melasma has significant emotional and psychological effects and significant negative impact on patients’ quality of life (QoL). Melasma QoL Scale (MELASQoL) is a specific questionnaire that has been developed to assess the effect of melasma on patient’s QoL. Objective: Translation, cultural adaptation, reliability and validation of melasma specific QoL sale (MELASQoL) into Arabic. Patients and Methods: A total of 65 adult Egyptian female patients with melasma aged ≥18 years old with skin phototypes type III-V were enrolled in this study. Wood’s light was used for determination of the type of melasma either epidermal, dermal or mixed. Melasma severity was assessed by using the melasma area and severity index (MASI) score and the new modified score (mMASI). The impact of melasma on QoL was evaluated using the Arabic version of MELASQoL scale after translation and cultural adaptation according to the WHO guidelines. The questionnaire’s reliability and validity was assessed. Results: The internal consistency for the 10-item of the MELASQoL-A scale was excellent; Intra-class Correlation Coefficient (ICC) = 0.914 and Cronbach’s alpha coefficient (Cronbach α = 0.944) indicating high reliability of the developed Arabic version. There was significant positive correlation between the MELASQoL-A scale and the MASI score (r= 0.41; p= 0.0027), and the mMASI score (r = 0.36; p= 0.0032). Conclusion: The Arabic version of the MELASQoL scale was found to be a reliable and valid measure for evaluating the QoL among Egyptian melasma patients, supporting its use in Arab communities.

Objective: To assess the impact of on-call duties on veterinarians' job satisfaction, well-being and personal relationships.Design: Cross-sectional survey.Sample: The sample was obtained from Veterinary Information Network (VIN) members in private practice within the United States.Procedures: A link to an anonymous online survey was distributed via an email invitation to all Veterinary Information Network (VIN) members with access from August 15, 2017 to October 21, 2017.Results: A total of 1,945 responses were recorded. The majority of those who reported having on-call duties were female associates. Composite scales were created to assess the impact of on-call shifts on job satisfaction and well-being. Multiple linear regression was conducted and found that gender (p = 0.0311), associate status (p < 0.0001), and age (p = 0.0293) were all significantly associated with on-call related job satisfaction. Additionally, multiple linear regression found that gender (p = 0.0039), associate status (p < 0.0057), and age (p < 0.0001) were all significantly associated with on-call related well-being. On-call shifts were reported by many to have a negative impact on job satisfaction and well-being; this was especially pronounced for female associates. Females had on-call related job satisfaction scores that were, on average, 1.27 points lower than that of males (lower scores equates to lower job satisfaction). Further, females' average on-call related well-being scores were 1.15 points higher than that of males (lower scores equates to higher well-being).Conclusions and Clinical Relevance: This study suggests that on-call shifts have a negative impact on veterinarian job satisfaction, well-being and personal relationships. The negative impact on job satisfaction and well-being is greatest for female associates. Veterinary medicine has been identified as a stressful occupation that can lead to psychological distress. It is therefore important to critically assess current practices that appear to increase stress and reduce emotional well-being. For this reason, it is suggested that veterinary hospitals explore alternative options to traditional on-call shifts.

Taken the leading enterprises in the Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies from 2013 to 2017 as the research samples, the effect of characteristics differences in vertical pair of executives and equity incentives on enterprise performance was empirically analyzed. Constructing multiple linear regression model tested hypothesis. The results show that the interaction between equity incentives and the difference in age of vertical pair of senior executives has a significant negative impact on enterprise performance; the interaction between equity incentives and the difference in education of vertical pair of senior executives has a significant positive impact on enterprise performance.
