In recent years in Taiwan, some pedestrians were injured by falling external wall tiles. Exterior wall tile fell down for the temperature or other effects of seismic forces, becoming a potential public safety crisis. Office of Building Administration of Taoyuan City Government started inspecting high-rise buildings, which were over eleven stories and constructed before 1995 in Taoyuan city from 2015 to 2016. This study is a contract research. We inspected 298 high-rise buildings’ external wall tiles in Taoyuan City for city government. In this study, we classified the risk of buildings from Level A to E. D and E, which were regarded as the dangerous buildings and in need of repair immediately. D and E accounted for 41.6% percent of total buildings. We also concluded the data in the viewpoints of building age, story, exterior material, direction, and district. The authors hope the conclusion of this study could be submitted as reference material of inspection system, as well as give a significant suggestion to the periodic inspection approach in the future.

Tile is one of the most popular materials for high-rise building exterior wall construction in Taiwan. High-rise buildings in Taiwan were first built approximately 35 years ago. Wall tiles of these buildings currently are deteriorated facing the need of repair. In recent years, subject of exterior wall tile inspection at high-rise building have gained considerable attention. Taiwan government enacted the regulations on fire evacuation and equipment inspection for building safety. And attempt to add the article of exterior wall inspection for building safety. In other ways, high-rise buildings were first built approximately 50 years ago in Japan. Inspection and repair work for high-rise buildings plays an important role in the building construction market in Japan. Jurisdiction of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism legislate the regulations “Periodic Report System”. Exterior wall inspection methods were regulated under these regulations. In order to sustain safety quality environment within existent high-rise buildings, it is necessary for Taiwan government to legislate on exterior wall inspection today. The purpose of this study is to compare the regulations for inspection method of high-rise building exterior wall tile in Taiwan and Japan. We hope the conclusion of this study could give a significant suggestion to Taiwan building inspection method in the future.

Inspection on the dyed material in the textile industry is facing a challenging task owing to the accurate measurement of the dye concentration added. Currently manual inspection is done. It consumes more time and less accurate. The proposed work provides a solution to above problem. The image of reference material (cloth) is captured and the features are extracted using image processing techniques. The color concentration of both the reference material and the test fabric is compared. If the dye concentration of the test fabric matches with the reference material, then it is a perfect dyed cloth whereas for mismatched samples, the concentration is to be adjusted is displayed. This smart dyeing inspection system reduces the manual operation and saves time and results in high accuracy.

Fire overflow on exterior wall with thermal insulation system has been studied by numerical simulation. The spread laws of fire overflow are analyzed through the temperature distribution near the window. The computational results are compared with those of test in the Exterior Insulation Fire Barrier Technical Guidelines (EIFBTG). It has been found that the calculated maximum temperature points is closed to the test on the first floor, the first ceiling, and the points near the above two windows. However, there are differences between two kinds of results above two floors and ceilings, and the points near the first window. It has also shown that when the HHR is 7.5KW, the scope of damage of exterior thermal insulation layer is about 15 square meters near the window. The research would provide reference for fire protection design of exterior wall thermal insulation in the high-rise buildings.

The fire in high-rise buildings is perhaps more dangerous than those occur in normal buildings because of the strong stack effect and wind effect on the fire. The wind effects on the wind flame spread across the exterior wall of the high rise building are studied in this paper by the numerical methods. The results show that high wind speed will change the wind flame spread direction and make the room inclined above the fire room more danger, especially the room at the same floor adjacent to the fire room. Special passive fire protection measures should be taken under these kinds of conditions.

What was once a descriptor—Chicago as the last major American city government governed by a political machine—has become a trope, an all-purpose means of explaining public policy aims, achievements, and failures. The nearer-to-reality narrative that captures the essence of Chicago public policy trends in the last generation is neoliberalism. During the long tenure of Mayor Richard M. Daley Chicago’s demolition of high-rise public housing developments, public school restructuring, and long-term leasing of public assets both tracked broader neoliberal policy trends, and in some cases, represented the leading edge of such innovations. Nevertheless, many journalists and some scholars insist on interpreting Chicago politics and policy through the lens of personal corruption and partisan cronyism presumed to be the fundamental attributes of ward-based Democratic Party politics

As the rate of growth of population is increasing day by day, the requirement of land is increasing for different purposes. To accommodate this increased population, the height of building is increasing thereby subsequently increasing the importance of lateral load resisting system which provide adequate strength against lateral loading arising due to earthquake and wind. In present study various lateral load resisting system have been introduced which can resist the lateral forces and safely transfer them to soil thereby improving the strength and stiffness of column structures. The lateral load resisting systems that are widely used are conventional beam column system, shear wall system, tube system, outrigger system, tubular system etc. Diagrid structural system is generally adopted in tall buildings due to its structural efficiency and flexibility in planning. Compared to closely space vertical columns in Conventional Beam column system, diagrid structure consists of inclined columns on the exterior surface of building. The concrete diagrids member is used in both precast and cast in-situ type. An exhaustive study has been performed on the performance of 20 storey RCC building with plan size 18 m × 18 m using E-TAB software. All structural members are designed as per IS 456:2000 and all the load combinations of seismic forces are considered as per IS 1893(Part 1): 2002. Finally, Parameter such as storey displacement, storey stiffness and time period are compared and obtained results were presented in both graphically and tabular format

Based on Medan City Government 2012, slum areas in Medan City are currently estimated to reach 22.5% of the total area of Medan City, which consists of 88,166 housing units or 13.62% of the total houses in Medan City. Moreover, this has an impact on public health. Responding to this problem, the need to design a residence by rebuilding a residential area would be better by not abandoning the customs and culture of the people in the area. The project location is in Medan, Kampung Kelurahan Kesawan. The design method that is carried out is the choice of design location and approach to problem-solving design or design stages. It expects that the results of the design can provide suitable space and occupancy for the community, such as the construction of high-rise villages and community areas.
