A META ANALYSIS OF DECISION MAKING PROBLEMS IN CONSTRUCTION RISK MANAGEMENT

Various Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods are being commonly used in the area of construction risk management to deal with decisions that are subjected to several factors affecting the selection of the best possible choice in the projects. There are many techniques developed to provide assistance to decision-makers during decision-making process, each having different advantages and disadvantages. This study discusses some of the most frequently applied MCDM methods in construction risk management such as: AHP, ANP, TOPSIS, VIKOR, and DEMATEL, with their own application principles. It aims to introduce a meta-analysis about the use of MCDM methods within the last two decades and provide an extensive literature review study about construction risk management. It is expected to assist practitioners and researchers to suggest effective methods for specific type of risks to be addressed in construction projects. The discussion of pros and cons of each method will also provide some insights to get use of multiple MCDM methods rather than a single means to enhance the analysis outputs.

Although the electronic health (e-health) cloud computing system is a promising innovation, its adoption in the healthcare industry has been slow. This study investigated the adoption of e-health cloud computing systems in the healthcare industry and considered security functions, management, cloud service delivery, and cloud software for e-health cloud computing systems. Although numerous studies have determined factors affecting e-health cloud computing systems, few comprehensive reviews of factors and their relations have been conducted. Therefore, this study investigated the relations between the factors affecting e-health cloud computing systems by using a multiple criteria decision-making technique, in which decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL), DANP (DEMATEL-based Analytic Network Process), and modified VIKOR (VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje) approaches were combined. The intended level of adoption of an e-health cloud computing system could be determined by using the proposed approach. The results of a case study performed on the Taiwanese healthcare industry indicated that the cloud management function must be primarily enhanced and that cost effectiveness is the most significant factor in the adoption of e-health cloud computing. This result is valuable for allocating resources to decrease performance gaps in the Taiwanese healthcare industry.

Different power generation technologies have different advantages and disadvantages. However, if compared to traditional energy sources, renewable energy sources provide a possibility to solve the climate change and economic decarbonization issues that are so relevant today. Therefore, the analysis and evaluation of renewable energy technologies has been receiving increasing attention in the politics of different countries and the scientific literature. The household sector consumes almost one third of all energy produced, thus studies on the evaluation of renewable energy production technologies in households are very important. This article reviews the scientific literature that have used multiple-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods as a key tool to evaluate renewable energy technologies in households. The findings of the conducted research are categorized according to the objectives pursued and the criteria on which the evaluation was based are discussed. The article also provides an overview and in-depth analysis of MCDM methods and distinguishes the main advantages and disadvantages of using them to evaluate technologies in households.

Poor hazard management is among significant difficulties confronting the construction business on issues of timely project completion. Although hazard factors are various, the nature of construction projects being inclined to changes amid execution makes it hard to satisfactorily catch chance perspectives identified with scheduling and timely project completion. Conventional 2D PC based devices don't enough use digitized calculable data, along these lines constrained in capturing construction risk. Hence, derive the benefit  of prominent BIM to pass over this gap is presently being noted in growth  venture management. This examination researches the utilization of BIM in managing scheduling risk of construction projects. In our study, to properly minimize the risk of schedule delay in projects; construction sequencing exercises should be satisfactorily digitized and BIM offers the total chance to integrate vital aspects of project management that  management enhance scheduling risk management.

The construction project is a complex sector which characterized with low productivity, cost and time overruns and conflicts. The major challenges in construction project risk assessment which may attributed to knowledge requirements for determining the level of uncertainty and development of complex models to predict . Portfolio theory and capital market theory stipulate that risk consists of two types, First, systematic risk, which cannot be controlled, emanates from external factors such as acts of God, natural disasters, market risk, interest-rate risk, and purchasing-power risk. Second, unsystematic risk, which can be controlled, relates to organization-specific factors such as business risk and financial risk (Fischer and Jordan 1996).) . To identifies the risk factors that influence the cost-effective management, operation, and maintenance of construction project, as well as how and when in the project life cycle the identified risk factors impact to the associated costs . The identification and design of risk is the first step of risk management. It contain the recognition of potential risk event conditions in a project and the clarification of risk responsibilities. A total of 50 risk factors on construction for stake holders (client , contractor ,consultant ) share projects were identified after conducting an extensive literature survey. A questionnaire survey was conducted from 60 project managers(20 from each category) in all three proficiencies with background experience in buildings ,road and bridges with minimum 15 years experience , to identify the most significant risk factors impact in construction projects . Interviews were conducted face to face, ensuring a 100 percent response rate. The questionnaire was amended by incorporating feedback of the experts to suit the local environments of the construction industry. The weight or rate of each risk factor gained by using a five-point Liker scale from a consolidated conceptual framework of all 50 risk factors identified from the deep literature work . The main aim of these research is to identify ,categorize and ranking common risks, exert management techniques to address those risks , effective risk management and risk status in the construction industry and to help stakeholders to take stock of their ongoing and future projects, with a focus on important risks, their management techniques and barriers to effective implementation of risk management systems.

This paper aims to study the humanitarian risks in construction projects that affect the objectives of the project from time, cost and quality, and to identify, analyze and develop the appropriate strategy, monitor and control and specifically the risk of factors affecting construction projects. A questionnaire was designed to collect data and identify risks in construction projects and then distributed to several public and private sector companies registered with the Organizing Council for engineering works contractors in Sudan, and after the risks facing the construction projects were identified through the questionnaire and telephone interviews with The engineers and managers of these companies, these risks were analyzed by Google Form. The results of the questionnaire showed that inflation, increased prices of materials in the market, weak site management, delayed payments from the contractor and awarding the design to unqualified designers, that is the most important factors affecting the objectives of construction projects in Sudan, and the contractor is the most vulnerable among the parties to the project.

Abstract  During the construction projects, delays usually happen which are mainly caused by reworks, where 60% of reworks are caused by design failure. Since designs have a major impact on construction projects, there are methods to correctly create a design. Three methods of planning that can be done are conventional, semi-conventional, and BIM methods. The three methods have both advantages and disadvantages. Decision making for method selection for redesigning is very crucial to avoid delays to a project. The three main criteria in method selection are cost, time, and system. This research was done to decide the main criteria, sub-criteria, and an alternative in decision making of method selection for redesigning through the use of AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) and analyze conditions on the field with the result of AHP analysis. The result showed that cost was the main criterion with a weight if 0.40 and the sub-criterion for the cost was the HR  training cost with a global weight of 0.21. Alternative planning method selected was the BIM method with a global weight of 0.66. The result of field analysis showed that BIM planning method was 60.4% faster than the conventional method with an increase of training cost by 62.5%. The conclusion of this research was that BIM planning method was more efficient than conventional and semi-conventional planning in the process of re-design.Key words: Re-design, Conventional, BIM, AHPAbstrak Pada pelaksanaan proyek konstruksi, keterlambatan dengan rework menjadi penyebab utama dimana 60% penyebab Rework disebabkan oleh kesalahan desain. Besarnya dampak desain pada proyek konstruksi maka berbagai cara dilakukan untuk menyelesaikan proses desain dengan tepat. Tiga metode perencanaan yang dapat dilakukan yaitu Metode Konvensional, Metode Semi Konvensional, dan Metode BIM. Ketiga metode perencanaan tersebut sama-sama memiliki kelebihan dan kekurangan. Pengambilan keputusan saat pemilihan metode perencanaan pada pekerjaan re-design sangat krusial dalam mengurangi keterlambatan proyek. Banyaknya variabel dan kurangnya kriteria obyektif menyulitkan proses pemilihan metode perencanaan re-design. Tiga kriteria utama dalam proses pengambilan keputusan dalam pemilihan metode perencanaan re-design yaitu biaya, waktu, sistem. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menentukan kriteria utama, subkriteria dan alternatif dalam penentuan pengambilan keputusan dalam pemilihan metode perencanaan re-design dengan menggunakan metode AHP (Analytical Hirerachy Process) dan menganalisa kondisi di lapangan dengan hasil analisis AHP. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan biaya menjadi kriteria utama dengan bobot sebesar 0.40 dan subkriteria yang terpilih adalah biaya pelatihan SDM dengan bobot global sebesar 0.21. Alternatif metode perencanaan yang dipilih adalah metode perencanaan BIM dengan bobot global sebesar 0.66. Hasil analisis lapangan juga menunjukan bahwa metode perencanaan BIM lebih cepat 60.4% dari metode perencanaan konvensional dengan peningkatan biaya pelatihan sebesar 62.5%. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah Metode Perencanaan BIM lebih efisien daripada Perencanaan Konvensional maupun semi-konvensional dalam pengerjaan re-design.Kata kunsi : Re-design, Konvensional, BIM, AHP


Globally, performance of a construction project is primarily judged by cost, time, and quality. Performance of any project is measured by the extent of meeting the standards laid down at the start of the project. Risk management has been conceptualized as having a great bearing on the outcome of projects. The purpose of this study was to investigate risk management in relation to performance of National Government Constituency Development Funded construction projects in Nairobi County. The objectives of the study included; to assessing the influence of resource risk management, to investigate the role of risk management procedures, to analyze the influence of risk management policies and finally to develop a framework for enhancing proper risk management in the CDF projects in Kenya. A survey research design was used. The study employed a probabilistic sampling technique of simple random sampling in data collection. The study found a positive correlation between NG-CDF construction projects performance and all its explanatory variables investigated in the study. The study established that Construction risk management is extremely critical for every company. Not knowing where there might be risks on a project leave companies vulnerable and ill-prepared. CDF risk management committee should therefore develop a risk management policy that is consistent with the risk management strategy and Explain the purpose, role and benefits of embedding risk management policy and procedures into firms’ policies and procedures.

As part of his Ph.D. studies, the author researches risk management in project business and focuses on the construction industry. This paper deals with the intra-company organization of risk management. In particular, it examines advantages and disadvantages of centralization and decentralization of risk management. First, the paper deals with various aspects of risk management on theoretical level, ways of organizing risk management structures and relating decision criteria as well as the relevant tasks of specialist departments. Methodology of further research is based on a case study that explores details of centralization and decentralization in business practice. In the center of the case study is the company Bilfinger Berger Civil, a large, international construction company, which is an active player in the project business and has already carried out a variety of construction projects successfully. On the one hand, the company units and persons involved in Bilfinger’s risk management are introduced; on the other hand the tasks of the Group’s centralized departments are illuminated in detail. This includes the Corporate Legal, Internal Auditing, Corporate Treasury, Group Controlling and Project Controlling departments. The risk management of Bilfinger Berger Civil is finally assessed in form of a summary. As a main result the reader gains information about theories on structuring risk management within business companies and numerous impressions on the practical application in a real construction company.
