This paper reports on the role of socio-demographic and psychographic basis - the later achieved through the Value and Life Styles-2, or VALS-2 – as predictor of the consumers’ intention to migrate from the conventional analogical to digital TV broadcast. By means of validation, the sample was split in two groups, one used to estimate the logistic regression coefficients and the other used to confirm the model results and specification. It was observed that, among the alternatives of specification, the psychographic variable VALS-2 First Level and the demographic variables Age and Household Income provided a significant contribution on the discrimination of two segments – early adopters and non-adopters. The research concluded on the importance of using both demographic and psychographic segmentation basis in an integrated manner in order to research the attributes of consumers who declare their positive of migrating to innovating goods.

Reality is complex, and often does not lend itself to generalization or simplifying explanations. Yet at the same time, explaining reality often requires the shaping of notions and concepts of it through generalization and the reduction of complexity. This tension between complexity and particularity on the one hand and generalization and the search for abstracting explanatory patterns on the other is beautifully illustrated by two recently released publications on precaution and risk regulation in the United States and Europe, namely “The Politics of Precaution” by David Vogel1 and “The Reality of Precaution” edited by Jonathan Wiener, Michael Rogers, James Hammitt, and Peter Sand. Both books together can be seen as the latest significant contribution to the ongoing debate on the role of the precautionary principle in risk regulation in a comparative EU-US perspective. Both contributions are significant in that they consolidate the trend towards an empirically informed analysis of the actual practice of the application of precaution in risk regulation.

For centuries the role of the library was defined as a warehouse of books. Now, in the 21st century, the library is facing perhaps the biggest challenge – its physical survival. The role of librarians is re-branded to reflect their expertise as curators of content and reliable navigators in an evergrowing ocean of information - in any format they might exist. The future libraries shall be open to all the new ideas on how to work better and accept the new technologies. On the one hand, they must recognize the need to change their methods, but on the other hand - to preserve the continuity of their objectives and mission. The new era requires modern models of learning and the attractiveness of the curricula, that is, a modern education system that shall adapt the curricula to the needs of modern society and reconcile centuries of man's need for knowledge, reading books and education in general with the new technologies.

Our life, by its biological nature, is in an indestructible dependence on energy. At the same time, energy is an important criterion on which we report the progress of humanity. Historically, progress divides our world into distinct stages, called Industrial Revolutions. Each stage has encompassed more fuels, new technologies, inventions, humans behavioural changes and much more worrying environmental issues. Energy techniques, new extractions and transportation improved in nineteenth and during twenty-century energy consumption, especially electricity, rise significantly with, on the one hand, a continuous influx of fossil fuels and, on the other hand, continuous increase of the quantities of toxic waste, visible or not, from the other industrial branches and human activities, consequences of the energetical progress. The purpose of this paper is to point out some aspects regarding ecological footprints of electrical industry and energy industries during their development and to establish connections between the distinct role of energy in each period of industrialization and its impact on the environment, education, science, arts and cultural dimensions of life.

Escaping the Dream of the OtherKristupas Sabolius SummaryDealing with the changing nature of visuality in contemporary world, this article aims to examine the possibility of producing, classifying, and implanting dreams into one’s mind. Based on Deleuze’s, Horkheimer’s, Adorno’s, Candau’s, and Zizek’s views as well as a few Hollywood films, this work diagnoses the crucial role of cultural industries in duplicating the function of transcendental schematism, as new technologies take over Kant’s transcendental imagination. These processes are implemented through a new form of visual existence – iconorrhea, a rhythmical, repetitive and excessive flux of images, circulating on the screens of public sphere. This paper raises the rhetorical question concerning the possibility of deliverance from this situation, i.e. how can one escape the dream of the Other.

In this chapter, the characteristics and the role of the early adopters and early majority are reviewed from the life cycle perspective following the VCR case study. Both of these groups of consumers purchase a mature or more advanced product at a reasonable price. Their adoption demonstrates that the product performance has enough future possibilities. On the other hand, manufacturers should expand their manufacturing facilities quickly because the demand starts growing dramatically. The early adopters (13.6 percent) are almost six times as many as innovators (2.3 percent) and the early majority (34.1 percent) is about 2.5 times as many as early adopters. Once a diffusion process starts, the spread is very rapid in the first group.

The literacy of blind pupils and the trends of de-braille, a necessary discussionAbstractThis study presents an analysis of abstracts of academic papers, thesis, anddissertations found in Google and Google Scholar in the last ten years andhow themes approach the literacy processes and modes used with blind stu-dents, considering the current “de-braillization” trend. The analysis focused onhow these works dealt with such issues, which eventually showed the lack ofdebate on how the literacy process of blind subjects has been going on, as wellas the current issue of “de-braillization”. A significant number of works justhighlight the use of new technologies in literacy processes and do not mentionhow the Braille method is used. On the other hand, the analysis of these stu-dies also shows that the teaching of Braille, when mentioned, occurs mainly inschools. Given these results, we believe that there is a silencing of the use ofBraille and the school and the teacher’s role in these processes, a situation thatdeserves further analysis and insights, since the role of the school, the teacher, and Braille itself is central to a quality education for blind students, especiallywith regard to literacy. Keywords: Education of blind people. Many authors report uncertainties over the expression Web portal, but nowhere are these more understandable than with library applications. On one hand, the phase library portal is a tautology. In keeping with the traditional role of a doorway to knowledge, much of the library’s Web presence is characterized by portal functions and their continuing role as “trusted” information resources. On the other hand, the library as metaphor appears prominently in the literature of Yahoo, MSN, Google, AOL and other modern innovators to explain their new technologies for personalized information services.

Despite the elevated interest in new technologies in the public relations practice, their use is still achieved in a random, traditional, disorganized way and without a particular strategy or methodology. This randomness in non-use may be caused by the lack of conviction of the role of modern technological tools and their importance to activate the dialogue between the organization and its audience. In addition to enabling them to achieve their objects such as promotion, building a strong reputation and increase loyalty and thus increase sales or services provided. The other reason is that this area is still considered relatively new. Literature still lacks studies that show the mechanisms that practitioners should follow to improve and develop their performance, although many studies have shown that there are many gaps and issues in the online PR practice, such as weaknesses in technological skills, weakness in the concept of online pr. Studies have also found factors that affect on the non-use of these tools or use them in an abusive manner. Therefore, there is a need for studies to show the mechanisms of dealing with these tools effectively. This study attempted to explore the literature in this field and found several mechanisms that could be used to improve and develop the practice of online PR.
