This study is an evaluation of the professional development (PD) programme for learning advisors employed in the self-access centre at Kanda University of International Studies in Japan. The research issue investigated was whether the PD activities of advisors allow them to provide appropriate support to students at the University. The implementation of policies, the people and the setting were all considered in building an understanding of what may make the programme work. The framework used to understand this programme is realist evaluation (Pawson & Tilley, 1997), in which theories related to the initial research issue were refined and developed to offer new perspectives. Results suggest that initial training aids advisors in supporting students, but that future implementation decisions are needed for the mentoring element of the programme and on whether more peer observation should take place. The implication that informal discussion among the workgroup and the freedom to choose personal PD journeys are fundamental drivers of effective practice is a finding that may be applied to other teacher and advisor education settings.

Abstract. The key of Open University construction is the teachers’ team building, and the teachers’ professional development is the most important part. Open University teachers’ professional development has not fit for our teaching requirements any more. The rapid development of information society put forward some severe challenges to Open University teachers’ professional development. Under the view of philosophy of technology, fit for the request of the new situation, It must have some progress on Open University teachers’ professional development: first, to improve the professional academic level; second, to improve the teaching skills; third, to improve the information technology. Those three parts constitute connotation of professional distance education teachers. In the deep analysis the difference between Open University teachers’ professional development and the reality, base on this reason, they offered a good plan, which we hopefully can enhance, the Open University teachers’ professional level, and also can improve the distance education quality.

People with disabilities is one of the most marginal groups in today's society so ensur-ing their rights and needs is a great challenge for policy makers and planners. This paper reviews the most important agreements and laws about disability in the European Union and Hungary, as well as the New Hungary Development Plan. Later the paper also reveals the spatial differences of the people with disabilities in Hungary on the regional scale and presents relationship between the state of development and the ratio of disabled people. In comparing the data of the country and the South Great Plain the charasteristics of the dis-abled population in age, qualification and employment are also highlighted. Finally there is a short summary of the accessible and non-accessible public buildings in Békés County and Békéscsaba.

Este artículo trata sobre la capacitación del personal docente de la Universidad Estatal a Distancia de Costa Rica en la atención de personas con discapacidad. Esta investigación se basa en una encuesta de carácter descriptivo y su objetivo es diagnosticar la actitud y la experiencia de los profesores y las profesoras de la UNED con relación a la población estudiantil que presenta alguna discapacidad. Se concluye que para lograr una atención de calidad se debe incrementar la especialización de los profesores y las profesoras en la atención a estudiantes con discapacidad.AbstractThe present article deals with training to professors at Distance State University of Costa Rica in the topic of adequate attention to people with special needs. A descriptive research was carried out. The objective of the research was to diagnose UNED professors’ attitude as well as experience related to students with any kind of impairment. In the text, an attempt was made to analyse selected issues related to gerontology in the relationship to people with disabilities. The context of analyses is the tendency of social ageing tendencies, observed in Poland and in the world, especially in European countries. Selected areas of reflection are combined with the conviction that there is a need for research which would fill in the gap in the field of research carried out so far, focused on the issue of the broadly defined life situation of the people with disabilities in the senior years, which is in the scientific merit of Polish special needs education (pedagogics). There is a justified fear that these individuals are more likely to experience marginalisation and exclusion in many areas of life than people of similar age in the general population.

The book “Asistenţa socială şi religiozitatea la persoanele cu handicap” [Social work and religiosity for people with disabilities], authored by Carman Gabriela Mândrilă Lăzăreanu, published by Lumen Publishing House from Iasi, Romania, in 2020, aims from the beginning to be an important guide for young generations, developing both the secular dimension of social work and the religious dimension, specific to theological environments. We welcome the publishing of the book, especially since social discourses and, unfortunately, those of some Romanian public personalities blame the vulnerable condition of the people who depend on financial benefits and other types of intervention and support services. In this sense, the book clarifies from the beginning the importance of changing mentalities, norms, and how these people are perceived, for a solution to the problems they face. Approached in terms of cause and effect, the volume focuses on the social, psychological, medical, and legal dimensions that define the situation of disability in order to build an objective framework for assessing and supporting the condition of disability.
