The aim of this research is to analyze the contribution of the secondary level chess in the success of math lesson by comparing end-year math scores of the secondary school students playing and not playing chess. The research is a relational screening model and the research data are composed of end-year math scores in promotion sheets of the students. Thereby, the research group is composed of totally 274 students - 200 males and 74 females - studying at 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in 5 secondary schools selected from the central districts of the city of Sakarya at the end of 2014-2015 school years. SPSS 22.0 statistical software package was used and the significance level was taken as p< 0.05. The obtained data was handled within the scope of descriptive and inferential statistics, and t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used. A significant difference was found out between the end-year math scores of the students playing and not playing chess in favor of the playing ones. No significant difference was found between the end-year math scores of the students playing chess in relation to their genders and grades.

Enrolment of students in Malaysia tertiary level programs related to STEM-based has shown a significant reduction in numbers which resulted in a decreasing number of enrolment in the Degree of Civil Engineering programs.  The purpose of this study is to identify the level of student’s awareness; factors that influence the students; and suggestions for improvement. The respondents are students from secondary school in Negeri Sembilan and UiTM.  The findings of this study indicate that there is a significant difference in the level of awareness according to areas; misled perception towards the program; and lack of participation from school and parent.     Keywords: STEM-based education, Civil Engineering, awareness, secondary-level students eISSN: 2398-4287© 2020. Purpose of the Study: This study investigated the creative abilities of students from rural and urban secondary schools in terms of their fluency, flexibility, originality, inquisitiveness, and persistency. Methodology: The research design used here is quantitative with the type of descriptive survey method. The research subjects were 720 secondary school students selected through disproportionate stratified random sampling. The research instrument used is the Passi Test of Creativity (verbal & non-verbal). The analysis techniques employed are descriptive statistics and inferential statistics in the form of independent means t-test. Main Findings: The study revealed that rural and urban Secondary level school students have significant differences in their creativity. However, concerning the inquisitiveness dimension of creativity, the study reported no significant difference between the rural and urban Secondary level school students. Applications of this Study: This research can be used as input for the schools and teachers at the secondary level to consider the practice of offering a more stimulating environment to students hailing from rural backgrounds. This research can also be used as input in the facilitation of students’ creative abilities. Novelty/Originality of this Study: The teachers, educators, and school authorities, especially at Secondary level of Education; are suggested to offer more exposures and stimulating environments to students belonging to the rural backgrounds. The study examined for the first time the rural-urban disparity among secondary level school students on the dimensions of creativity such as inquisitiveness and persistence, especially in north-east India.

Objectives: The aim of this cross-sectional research was to compare the knowledge and awareness of students in two different provinces of eastern and western Turkey about orthodontic treatment and to evaluate the awareness of orthodontic treatment among primary and secondary school students. Materials and Methods: A total of 2342 students between the ages of 7 and 15 were included in the study. The questionnaire consisted of a total of 30 questions, including questions about demographics and orthodontic treatment. 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and, 8th-grade students were included in the study. The survey was conducted in selected schools in district centers of Van and İzmir. Results: The number of students participating in the study from Izmir was 855 (452 girls, 403 boys), and 1487 (724 boys, 763 girls) from Van. Female students’ orthodontic awareness was higher than male students. There was also a statistically significant difference in the examinations conducted by cities. The students in İzmir were determined to be more conscious about orthodontic awareness in the majority of the questions in the survey. There were statistically significant differences between primary and secondary school students in terms of orthodontic awareness as a result of evaluating the primary and secondary schools separately. Secondary school students had a higher level of orthodontic awareness. Conclusion: Students’ orthodontic awareness and deficiencies in this respect were determined. It was concluded that orthodontic awareness was affected by age group, gender, and socio-economic and socio-cultural structure of the city.

The author compared study attitudes of low and high achievers by using a self-developed study attitude scale (SAS) consisting of 36 items. Academic performance was measured through marks obtained by the students in the 9th grade examination conducted by the external body.  The analysis revealed that the study attitude of secondary school students was related with their academic achievement.  A t-test for independent samples showed that there was a significant difference between the study attitude of male, female, rural and urban students.

The authors of this study have attempted to understand whether study habits affect academic achievement among secondary and senior secondary school students of Mysore. It is also attempted to know whether students at secondary level differ from senior secondary level on their study habits. The study was conducted on the sample of 625 students of Mysore City in India using stratified random sampling technique. Results indicated that the study habits facilitate higher academic achievement. Further, it was also found that secondary school students are significantly better than senior secondary students on study habits. The findings are analyzed and explained. Thus, study habit is found to be an important correlate of academic achievement.

The present study was conducted to ascertain the environmental awareness across gender, locale, type of schools and academic stream among senior secondary school students. The sample of the study comprised of 300 11th class students studying in different government and non- government senior secondary schools of Sambhal district (U.P.) of Moradabad region. Environment Awareness Ability Measure (EAAM) by Praveen Kumar Jha (1998) was used to collect the data for the purpose. The data were analyzed using descriptive (Mean, Standard Deviations) and inferential (‘t’- test) statistics. The findings of the present study revealed that there is significant difference in environmental awareness of senior secondary school students across gender (boys and girls), type of schools (government and non-government) and academic stream (science and arts). However no significant difference is found in case of rural and urban sample. The reason for this result may be the rampant illiteracy in the district. Stakeholders should, therefore, ensure that the curriculum relating to environmental education is transacted as a core curriculum. Other activities related to environmental education viz., curricular, co- curricular and literary activities should also be organized to infuse environmental awareness among students.

A variety of approaches have been proposed for teaching several volleyball techniques to beginners, ranging from general ball familiarization to model-oriented repetition to highly variable learning. This study compared the effects of acquiring three volleyball techniques in parallel with three approaches. Female secondary school students (N = 42; 15.6 ± 0.54 years) participated in a pretest for three different volleyball techniques (underhand pass, overhand pass, and overhead serve) with an emphasis on accuracy. Based on their results, they were parallelized into three practice protocols, a repetitive learning group (RG), a differential learning group (DG), and a control group (CG). After a period of six weeks with 12 intervention sessions, all participants attended a posttest. An additional retention test after two weeks revealed a statistically significant difference between DG, RG, and CG for all single techniques as well as the combined multiple technique. In each technique—the overhand pass, the underhand pass, the overhand service, and the combination of the three techniques—DG performed best (each p < 0.001).

The present study is based on Academic anxiety. The aim of the study is to find out the difference between religion and gender, regarding academic anxiety for the purpose of the study, 120 School children were chosen from different school at Kapadwanj town, Gujarat, for data collection in all 120 student, 60 being boys (30 Hindu +30 Muslim ) and 60 girls (30 Hindu + 30 Muslim ). Generally anxiety can be either a trait anxiety or a state anxiety. A trait anxiety is a stable characteristic or trait of the person. A state anxiety is one which is aroused by some temporary condition of the environment such as examination, accident, punishment, etc. Academic anxiety is a kind of state anxiety which relates to the impending danger from the environments of the academic institution including teacher, certain subjects like Mathematics, English, etc. I have used ‘Academic Anxiety Scale for children’ (AASC Scale) by Dr. A. k. Singh & Dr. (km) A.  Sen Gupta. The obtained data analyzed through Mann-Whitney ‘ U ‘ test. The result shows that there was no significant difference between the Academic anxiety of Muslim boys & girls and Hindu girls & Muslim girls. There is more Academic anxiety in Hindu girls then Hindu boys and more Academic anxiety in Muslim boys then Hindu boys.

This study was developed and conducted to test the effect of cognitive restructuring in the management of mathophobia (that is, Mathematics anxiety) among secondary school students in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. To guide the study, two research questions and two null hypotheses were formulated for testing at 0.05 level of significance. In executing the study, the pre-test, post-test, and control group experimental research design was adopted using a randomized sample of 120 SS2 students drawn from three public secondary schools only. The researchers developed an instrument titled “Mathematics Diagnostic Questionnaire” (MDQ) which was adequately assessed for validity and reliability and was used in collecting pre-test and post-test data for the cognitive restructuring and control groups. Data analysis was done using mean, and standard deviation for the research questions, while independent sample and paired sample t-test were used for the hypotheses. The result obtained showed that the cognitive restructuring was significantly effective in the management of mathophobia among secondary school students. There is a slight reduction in the effect of cognitive restructuring during follow-up; there is a statistical significant difference in the mathophobic level of students treated with cognitive restructuring and those in the control group. Based on the major findings, recommendations were made among which is that functional guidance and counselling centers be established at all educational levels and be manned by professional counsellors who are competent in cognitive restructuring techniques to assist those who have mathophobia and other maladaptive behaviours. Suggestions for further study were made.

The aim of this study is to examine the reading anxiety levels of secondary school students according to parameters of gender, grade level, socioeconomic level and reading frequency. The total number of participants of the study is 598 who are students in a secondary school from different grade levels. In this study, reading anxiety scale and personal information form is used. The collected data is analyzed by using independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient. Just as the first result of the study, it has been found that the reading anxiety levels of secondary school students are low. No significant difference has been found between the levels of students’ reading anxiety and the levels of gender and grade. However, the students’ reading anxiety levels has differed significantly in favor of those with high socioeconomic level. According to the latest finding obtained from the study, the reading anxiety levels of the students has differed significantly in favor of those who have low reading frequency. Therefore, students reading less have more reading anxiety. These results obtained from the study are discussed as stated to the literature.
