In today's competitive scenario, the increasing work stress and responsibilities demand efficient management of emotions while dealing with others at workplace. The concept of emotional intelligence (EI) of employees is hence gaining critical importance in maintaining effective workplace relationships and increased performance. To gain a deeper insight about the concept of EI, it becomes important to understand the major variables that influence it and their mutual interplay for enhancement of employee EI. Based on literature inputs and expert views, eight most important variables influencing emotional intelligence have been identified and a hierarchical model has been developed. The approach of TISM (Total Interpretive Structural Modelling) has been used to conceptualize the model which provides a practical structure of variables of emotional intelligence that can aid in decision making processes for performance management. The paper is a significant leap towards understanding the strategic structure of emotional intelligence of employees at workplace.

Kata Kunci: Kecerdasan Emosional, Stres Kerja, Perawat, ICU dan IGD Abstract: Nurses working in ICU and IGD are very susceptible to stress. Work  stress experienced by nurses will greatly affect the quality of nursing services provided to patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence with work stress nurses in ICU and IGD Kendari Regional Hospital. This research is a descriptive analytic correlation research using a quantitative approach with cross sectional method. Data of emotional intelligence level and work stress level of respondent were collected by questionnaire. The subjects of the study were 18 nurses ICU and IGD with criteria: not in the time of leave or get the task of study, willing to be respondent, and not head of space. The study was conducted in February 2018. Emotional intelligence of nurses was at the moderate level of 55.56% of respondents and the average level of nurses' work stress in the medium category ie 55.56% of respondents. The result of statistical test using Chi Square test at 95% confidence level (= 0.05), obtained the value of Contingency Coefficient 0.486 and the value  2 hit = 5.580 〖x〗 ^ 2 = 3.841 which means H0 is rejected so it is concluded that there is a relationship between intelligence emotional with the level of nurses work stress at the emergency hospital installation RSUD Kendari. Keywords: Emotional Intelligence, Working Stress, Nurse, ICU and IGD

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of emotional intelligence on work stress and to determine the effect of emotional intelligence on work stress through self-confidence. This research was conducted at PT. Orange Indonesia Mandiri Medan by selecting 55 employees as respondents. Furthermore, data collection used a questionnaire with path analysis in proving the research hypothesis. The results showed that emotional intelligence had no positive and significant effect on work stress and emotional intelligence had no positive and significant effect on work stress through self-confidence. This means that when emotional intelligence and self-confidence are getting better, it will reduce employee work stress.

In hospital services, nurses are most vulnerable to stress because they are related to mental safety. Nurse performance is the main factor in determining the success of hospital services. This research design uses explanatory, namely explaining the direct and indirect effects between variables. Research population 135 nurses with precision = 5%, sample (n) of 101. Sampling technique using Probability Sampling, independent variables: Job Stress, Burnout and Emoisonal Intelligence. dependent variable: Organizational Commitment and Nurse Performance. The result of testing the total effect is greater than the direct effect, so the accepted hypothesis shows that the variable organizational commitment can mediate the work stress variable on nurses' performance with a total of = -0.386, the organizational commitment variable can mediate the work fatigue variable on the nurse's performance dg total = -0.280, the commitment variable organizational intelligence can mediate the emotional intelligence variable on the performance of the woman with a total = 0.395.The career success paradigm from Intelligence Quotient (IQ) to Emotional Quotient (EQ) proves that emotional intelligence makes a greater contribution to success and achievement in the workplace compared to intellectual intelligence.

Background: Universally, nurses have been reported to be a group at high risk of workplace stress. However, nurses’ responses to stressful situations at work could be the outcomes of individual differences and organisational factors. Objectives: We examined the independent and joint contributions of four dimensions of emotional intelligence and perceived organisational support in work stress of nurses in a teaching hospital in Nigeria. Methods: The study was a cross-sectional survey research design, which selected 228 (41 male and 187 female nurses) nurses through the use of convenience sampling. Questionnaires comprising demographics with work stress, organisational support and emotional intelligence scales were administered to the sampled 228 nurses in the study. Data were analysed with the use of correlational matrix and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: Self-emotion appraisal, others’ emotion appraisal, use of emotion, regulation of emotion and perceived organisational support were found to have joint contributions to explaining work stress among nurses. Others’ emotion appraisal, use of emotion and perceived organisational support were found to have independent relationships with work stress. Conclusion: Our findings stress that judgement of others’ emotions, accurate use of emotion by nurses and support from management of the hospital are most important in explaining their reactions towards work-related stress.
