The solid-state phase equilibria of the copper (Cu)–dysprosium (Dy)–titanium (Ti) ternary system at 973 K has been experimentally investigated. The existence of nine binary compounds, Cu4Ti, Cu3Ti2, Cu4Ti3, CuTi, CuTi2, CuTi3, CuDy, Cu2Dy, and Cu5Dy was confirmed. The controversial phase of CuTi3 was found in this work. The temperature range of Cu7Dy was determined to be from 1112 to 1183 K. The phase relations at 973 K are governed by ten ternary phase regions, 21 binary phase regions, and 12 single-phase regions. The solid solubility of Cu in Dy is undetectable. None of the other phase in this system reveals a remarkable homogeneity range at 973 K.

Sodium super ionic conductor (NASICON)-type Na3Zr2Si2PO12 (NZSP) with the advantages of the high ionic conductivity, stability and safety is one of the most famous solid-state electrolytes. NZSP, however, requires the high sintering temperature about 1200 °C and long sintering time in the conventional solid-state reaction (SSR) method. In this study, the liquid-phase sintering (LPS) method was applied to synthesize NZSP with the use of NaPO3 glass with a low glass transition temperature of 292 °C. The formation of NZSP was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analyses in the samples obtained by the LPS method for the mixture of Na2ZrSi2O7, ZrO2, and NaPO3 glass. The sample sintered at 1000 °C for 10 h exhibited a higher Na+ ion conductivity of 1.81 mS/cm at 100 °C and a lower activation energy of 0.18 eV compared with the samples prepared by the SSR method. It is proposed that a new LPE method is effective for the synthesis of NZSP and the NaPO3 glass has a great contribution to the Na+ diffusion at the grain boundaries.

A solid solution of a 100Li3PS4·xLi3PO4 solid electrolyte was easily prepared by liquid-phase synthesis. Instead of the conventional solid-state synthesis methods, ethyl propionate was used as the reaction medium. The initial stage of the reaction among Li2S, P2S5 and Li3PO4 was proved by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. The powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed that the solid solution was formed up to x = 6. At x = 20, XRD peaks of Li3PO4 were detected in the prepared sample after heat treatment at 170 °C. However, the samples obtained at room temperature showed no evidence of Li3PO4 remaining for x = 20. Solid phosphorus-31 magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy results proved the formation of a POS33− unit in the sample with x = 6. Improvements of ionic conductivity at room temperature and activation energy were obtained with the formation of the solid solution. The sample with x = 6 exhibited a better stability against Li metal than that with x = 0. The all-solid-state half-cell employing the sample with x = 6 at the positive electrode exhibited a better charge–discharge capacity than that employing the sample with x = 0.

Dense ceramics are produced from fly ash from REK Bitola, Republic of Macedonia. Four types of fly ash from electro filters and one from the collected zone with particles < 0.063 mm were the subject of this research. Consolidation was achieved by pressing (P= 133 MPa) and sintering (950, 1000, 1050 and 11000C and heating rates of 3 and 100/min). Densification was realized by liquid phase sintering and solid state reaction where diopside [Ca(Mg,Al)(Si,Al)2O6] was formed. Ceramics with optimal properties (porosity 2.96?0.5%, bending strength - 47.01?2 MPa, compressive strength - 170 ?5 MPa) was produced at 1100?C using the heating rate of 10?C/min.

The hydrodynamic and thermal state in the contact zone of the layers of a bimetallic product obtained by pouring liquid iron onto a solid steel billet, which changes in time and is responsible for the strength of the diffusion joint and the geometric parameters of the transition layer, has been investigated. Simplified analytical dependences, mathematical modeling data and experimental results of the liquid phase existence time in the contact zone based on research of the melt velocities during pouring and changes in the thermal field are presented. It is shown that simplified calculations data coincide in order and are close in values to the calculations of mathematical modeling and experimental data, which makes it possible to use them for preliminary rough estimates by technologists and metallurgists.

The novelty technology lies in the fact that the hardening of the surface layers is carried out both in liquid phase and in the solid state. Technology comprises three main stages with 12 technological phases.Experimentation highlights the viability of the technological procedure. The results of tests and verifications are the basis of the analysis of combined machined parts behavior in conditions similar to the operating conditions and of the analysis of the dependence between operation behavior and durability. Analysis of the results revealed the fact that failure to technological parameters: casting temperature; hold time at high temperatures; cooling rate after microalloying in liquid phase, gives rise to possible faults of the combined treated parts.

Solid-state reaction was used for Li7La3Zr2O12 material synthesis from Li2CO3, La2O3 and ZrO2 powders. Phase investigation of Li7La3Zr2O12 was carried out by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) methods. The thermodynamic characteristics were investigated by calorimetry measurements. The molar heat capacity (Cp,m), the standard enthalpy of formation from binary compounds (ΔoxHLLZO) and from elements (ΔfHLLZO), entropy (S0298), the Gibbs free energy of the Li7La3Zr2O12 formation (∆f G0298) and the Gibbs free energy of the LLZO reaction with metallic Li (∆rGLLZO/Li) were determined. The corresponding values are Cp,m = 518.135 + 0.599 × T − 8.339 × T−2, (temperature range is 298–800 K), ΔoxHLLZO = −186.4 kJ·mol−1, ΔfHLLZO = −9327.65 ± 7.9 kJ·mol−1, S0298 = 362.3 J·mol−1·K−1, ∆f G0298 = −9435.6 kJ·mol−1, and ∆rGLLZO/Li = 8.2 kJ·mol−1, respectively. Thermodynamic performance shows the possibility of Li7La3Zr2O12 usage in lithium-ion batteries.

High conductivity porosity materials are proposed to enhance the phase change materials (PCM) in order to solve the problem of low conductivity of PCM in the latent heat storage device (LHSD), and two-dimensional numerical simulation is conducted to predict the performance of the PCM by CFD software. During the phase change process, the PCM is heated from the solid state to the liquid phase in the process of melting and from the liquid phase to the solid state in the solidification process. The results show that porosity materials can improve heat transfer rate effectively, but the effect of heat transfer of Al foam is superior to that of graphite foam although the heat storage capacity is almost the same for both. The heat transfer is enhanced and the solidification time of PCM is decreased since the effective thermal conductivity of composite PCM is increased.
