Background and aims: Level of satisfaction and opinion of patients are important factors that might be considered in assessing the quality of health care services. This study aimed to assess the level of satisfaction of patients who visited dental clinic of School of Dentistry, Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences, Shahrekord, Iran. Methods: This descriptive, analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted in 2015 on 400 randomlyselected patients visiting Endodontics, Periodontics and Implant, Pediatric Dentistry and Operative Dentistry Departments of Dental Clinic of School of Dentistry, Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences. A questionnaire encompassing demographic information and perspectives on dental care, some clinic-related factors, quality of received services, waiting time, and behavior of dental clinicians and personnel was filled out by the patients. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22.0. Results: Of all the patients, 77% (n=310) reported improvement in their conditions and were completely satisfied with the received services; 12% reported worsening conditions and so they were dissatisfied with the treatments; and 19.5% (n=78) reported no change in their conditions. The highest level of satisfaction was related to quick presence of dental clinicians and their behavior. Patients were mainly dissatisfied with the treatment costs and welfare services. Conclusion: Satisfaction of patients with the services provided by the dental clinic of School of Dentistry, Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences was at an acceptable level. Items causing dissatisfaction in the patients should be properly addressed in order to maximize the satisfaction rate of patients with the services provided in this clinic.

Dental care services are available in many urban communities worldwide where discerning and sophisticated clients expect quality care. Many available studies evaluated satisfaction rather than quality of dental care; others did not reveal the patients’ perception of gaps in the quality of care. Service quality (SERVQUAL) tool assesses quality of service based on the dimensions of tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy as described by Parasuraman et al. (1985). The aim of this study was to assess the gaps in quality of dental care in a Nigerian government owned dental clinic using an unweighted SERVQUAL tool to determine the difference between expectations and perceptions of patients. Consenting patients seen during the study period were given a 32-items questionnaire divided equally between expectations and perception of quality of dental care services received. Out of 112 questionnaires analysed, patients had the most expectation for neatness (4.69 ± 0.85) and least for pain free treatment (3.76 ± 1.16). Highest perception was for knowledgeable clinic staff (4.34 ± 0.71) while support to enable staff work well was the least perceived quality (3.73 ± 0.86). Overall, among the 5 dimensions of quality, there were marked statistically significant quality gaps in assurance (p = .0001) and tangibles (p = .0006). This study showed that patients in a Nigerian government-owned dental clinic, there is need for greater attention to be paid to assurance, tangibles and reliability dimensions of service quality to improve patient perceptions.

Introduction: The mental health of nurses, as providers of care, has a significant impact on the quality of care. Happiness has a close relationship with many health components. Considering the importance of mental health in nurses, this study was conducted to investigate happiness among nurses in educational hospitals of Yazd Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences. Methods: The present descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on 210 nurses using stratified sampling method (Proportionate to the number of nurses in each hospital). Data were collected using a 2-part questionnaire including background information and Oxford Happiness Standard Questionnaire with 29 questions and a score range of 0-87. Data analysis was performed by SPSS/16 using Chi-square test and ANOVA. Results: The mean age of nurses was 31.8 ± 6.09 years. In terms of happiness levels, the majority of nurses (57.6%) had moderate levels of happiness and the average score of happiness was 37.54 ± 11.88. A significant relationship was found between happiness with physical activity (P= 0.022), employment status (P=0.025), ward (P = 0.038), work shift at night (P=0.111), satisfaction of health (P <0.0001), love of the job (P = 0.001), and satisfaction of workplace conditions (P<0.0001). Conclusion: The findings showed that the level of happiness was moderate in the majority of nurses. Therefore, the researchers recommend planning and implementing appropriate interventions to increase the happiness of nurses and improve the quality of nursing care.

ABSTRACT Purpose This study aimed to evaluate levels of parental satisfaction with dental care at a hospital based pediatric dental clinic. Methods Cross sectional questionnaire-based survey of 115 parents/guardians of children attending a pediatric dental clinic. Demographic information collected in a self-administered modified version of the Dental Visit Satisfaction Scale questionnaire. Overall level of satisfaction with care measured on a response scale ranging from very satisfied to not satisfied. Parents’ opinions regarding specific aspects of the visit also assessed. Results Majority (82%) of respondents were female. 48.8% were between the ages 31-40. 52% participants had at least secondary school education. 90 % were very satisfied with their child's treatment. Parents were most satisfied with the explanation of their child's problem and perceived level of competency of the dentist. Conclusion Levels of satisfaction with this service were high and seem to be related primarily to the quality of dentist-patient interaction.

<p>Communication, as a key element in providing high-quality health care services, leads to patient satisfaction and health. The present Cross sectional, descriptive analytic study was conducted on 70 nurses and 50 patients in two hospitals affiliated to Alborz University of Medical Sciences, in 2012. Two separate questionnaires were used for nurses and patients, and the reliability and validity of the questionnaires were assessed. In both groups of nurses and patients, nurse-related factors (mean scores of 2.45 and 2.15, respectively) and common factors between nurses and patients (mean scores of 1.85 and 1.96, respectively) were considered the most and least significant factors, respectively. Also, a significant difference was observed between the mean scores of nurses and patients regarding patient-related (p=0.001), nurse-related (p=0.012), and environmental factors (p=0.019). Despite the attention of nurses and patients to communication, there are some barriers, which can be removed through raising the awareness of nurses and patients along with creating a desirable environment. We recommend that nurses be effectively trained in communication skills and be encouraged by constant monitoring of the obtained skills.</p>

The improvement of quality in maternity care services is an effective strategy to reduce maternal mortality. The utilisation of the maternity services and its satisfaction indirectly measure the quality of services. This study aimed to assess the level of satisfaction with delivery care and also to identify the factors influencing the satisfaction among women on the quality of delivery care services in Sarawak. A cross-sectional study was conducted in the three main zones of Sarawak, Malaysia. A total of 1236 completed data were analysed. Data was collected using the validated Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSQ-18, Short Form) by face to face interview. Data entry and analysis was done by SPSS version 22.0 software. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. A multinomial logistic regression analysis revealed that Bidayuh ethnics were 28.6% less likely to have good satisfaction with delivery care than the other ethnic groups. The respondents were 1.806 times more likely to have the average satisfaction and 1.972 times more likely to have good satisfaction on delivery care if a doctor attended the latter. Similarly, the respondents were 2.29 times highly satisfied if the out of pocket expenses were less than MYR 91.50 (US $ 21.73)  compared to 2.10 times in average satisfaction. Overall, the women were satisfied with the delivery care services. However, assessment of satisfaction with the services provided from the different level of health care professionals needs to be explored to gain a deeper understanding of maternal care.Keywords:  Delivery Care, Level of satisfaction, Maternal Health Services, Sarawak.

Osteopenia/osteoporosis and sarcopenia are common geriatric diseases among older adults and harm activities of daily living (ADL) and quality of life (QOL). Osteosarcopenia is a unique syndrome that is a concomitant of both osteopenia/osteoporosis and sarcopenia. This review aimed to summarize the related factors and clinical outcomes of osteosarcopenia to facilitate understanding, evaluation, prevention, treatment, and further research on osteosarcopenia. We searched the literature to include meta-analyses, reviews, and clinical trials. The prevalence of osteosarcopenia among community-dwelling older adults is significantly higher in female (up to 64.3%) compared to male (8–11%). Osteosarcopenia is a risk factor for death, fractures, and falls based on longitudinal studies. However, the associations between osteosarcopenia and many other factors have been derived based on cross-sectional studies, so the causal relationship is not clear. Few studies of osteosarcopenia in hospitals have been conducted. Osteosarcopenia is a new concept and has not yet been fully researched its relationship to clinical outcomes. Longitudinal studies and high-quality interventional studies are warranted in the future.

ObjectiveTo study if patient-related factors are associated with patient-evaluated quality of care in surgery. To examine if there is an association with postoperative complications and patient-evaluated low quality of care.DesignA correlation cross-sectional study, in addition, a phone call interview at 30 days postoperatively to examine complications.SettingThe data on patients admitted for non-cardiac general and orthopaedic surgery at a central hospital in Southwestern Finland were collected in two phases during an 8-month period.Participants436 consecutive consenting and eligible in-ward non-cardiac general surgery and orthopaedic surgery adult patients. Ambulatory, paediatric and memory disorder patients were excluded. 378 patients completed the questionnaire (Good Nursing Care Scale for Patients (GNCS-P)).MethodsPerceived quality of care was examined by the GNCS-P questionnaire. Patient-related factors were obtained from electronic patient records and questionnaire. A telephone interview related to postdischarge complications was conducted 30 days after discharge.Main outcome measuresPatient evaluation of quality of care at discharge, its association with patient-related factors and patient-reported postdischarge complications.ResultsThe overall quality was evaluated high or very high by the patients. The lowest overall quality of care rate was assessed by surgical patients living alone (p=0.0088) and patients who evaluated their state of health moderate or poor (p=0.0047). Surgical patients reporting postoperative complications after discharge evaluated lower overall quality of care (p=0.0105) than patients with no complications.ConclusionPatient demographic factors do not seem to influence the perceptions of the quality of care. Instead, subjective state of health and living conditions (living alone) may have an influence on the patient experience of quality of care. The perceived quality of care in healthcare staff technical and communication skills may have an association with reported postoperative complications.

Background: Healthcare workers are at a high risk of developing Occupational Dermatitis (OD). Affected workers often experience severe impairment of their Quality of Life (QoL). This study aimed to assess the skin-related QoL of healthcare workers with OD and to explore its related factors. Methods: A cross-sectional and exhaustive study was conducted among healthcare personnel of four public hospitals in the central region of Tunisia. All the cases of OD declared were included. Skin-related QoL was assessed using the validated Tunisian version of the “Dermatology Life Quality Index” (DLQI). Some related patents were discussed. Results: A total of 37 cases of OD were collected with an annual incidence of 4.2 cases per 10000 workers. The population was predominantly female (73%) and mean aged 44.7±9.4 years. Nurses were the most represented occupational category (38%). Allergic contact dermatitis was the most frequent diagnosis (96%). Use of gloves was the most frequently reported occupational hazard (86%). The most frequently affected sites were hands (97%). The median score of DLQI was five. Multivariate analysis showed an association between the impairment of skin-related QoL and female gender (p = 0.04; OR = 19.3,84), exposure to disinfecting chemicals in the workplace (p = 0.01; OR = 17,306) and the absence of occupational reclassification (p = 0.01; OR = 21,567). Conclusion: About one third of the population had an impaired quality of life. The score impairment was significantly related to female gender, exposure to disinfecting chemicals and the absence of occupational reclassification.

Background: High Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Ratios persist in Sub-Saharan Africa despite increasing perinatal care coverage. This suggests that coverage alone is not adequate to reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Quality of care should be the emphasis of maternal and child care services. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional multicentre study was conducted in selected health facilities in Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe using purposive sampling. A World Health Organization-WHO 2016 Quality of Maternal and New-born assessment Framework and the WHO (2015) Service Availability and Readiness Assessment tool were used for data collection. Data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Scientist (SPSS) version 24.0. Results: Less than 43% of the health facilities satisfied at least three of the five Performance Standards of availability and adequacy of Antenatal infrastructure and supplies. Regarding Antenatal processes/care, an observation was the most common performance standard satisfied by 70.6% of all health facilities assessed while less than 30% fulfilled all other standards. Only 57.1% of the health facilities satisfied 5 of the 11 standards for labour and delivery infrastructure, while only 55.6% of the Health facilities satisfied only two of the 13 standards of Labour and delivery care. Conclusion: To achieve a significant and sustainable reduction in maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, there is a need for investment and improvement in maternity care services infrastructure and processes as opposed to focusing on mere attendance of Antenatal, and deliveries by trained birth attendants.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to report the assessment results of the quality of neonatal care services in Armenia and to describe the identified obstacles to improving the quality of care for newborn infants. Design/methodology/approach The study carried out a cross-sectional descriptive design. The data were collected in health facilities with different levels of neonatal care that were selected employing a multi-stage, stratified purposeful sampling design. The quality of neonatal services was assessed using the generic WHO tool. Data collection was performed using face-to-face semi-structured interviews, hospital statistics, medical records and direct observations. Findings In 31 study hospitals, 31,976 deliveries were performed resulting in 31,701 live births and 734 stillbirths. About 85 percent of all neonatal deaths was attributable to early neonatal deaths with over 48 percent occurring during the first 24 h of life. The proportion of neonatal deaths was highest in infants with low birth weight constituting 92.8 percent of all neonatal deaths. The total neonatal mortality rate was 3.50 per 1,000 live births, whereas stillbirth rate and perinatal mortality rate were 22.60 and 25.26 per 1,000 total births in 2015. Specific indicators with relatively lower mean scores included neonatal resuscitation, early breastfeeding, monitoring of newborn conditions, neonatal sepsis, feeding standards, total parenteral nutrition, and infection treatment. Originality/value Given the limited scope of research on quality assessment, this paper provides valuable information on the status of quality of neonatal care services in Armenian health facilities. This work also extends the existing studies focused on quality assessment through applying the model of Avedis Donabedian with the structure–process–outcomes approach as a theoretical basis.
