The results of elaborations of available theoretical-analytical materials on measuring the quality of life are generalized, their orientation mainly on the assessment of the quality of life at the macro level for international comparisons is revealed. Methodical methods for assessing environmental safety as a component of quality of life at the level of administrative subregions of neighboring countries are substantiated and proposed: subjective assessment based on sociological research using questionnaires and objective assessment with a choice of representative, comparative, reliable assessment indicators, substantiation of their standards and calculations of environmental safety indices. The results are given of approbation of the proposed methods with coverage of subjective and obtained on the basis of quantitative indicators adapted to the system of official statistics of Ukraine and Poland objective assessments of the ecological component of quality of life in the studied cross-border subregions: Zhovkva, Sokal, Yavoriv districts of Lviv Oblast of Ukraine and Jaros?aw, Przemy?l, Lubacz?w Counties of the SubcarpathianVoivodeship of Poland. Significant disparities are identified not in favor of domestic subregions in the levels of environmental safety according to the results of objective assessment, which to some extent is smoothed in subjective assessment due to its dependence on the specific values and guidelines and environmental awareness of respondents. Conclusions are made on the complementarity of the results of subjective and objective environmental safety assessment, high value of the importance given by respondents to environmental safety as a component of quality of life, the impact of environmental safety asymmetry on the results of its subjective assessment, in particular, the priority of protection and preservation of certain components natural environment aimed at solving these problems.

The purpose of the present study is analyzing the trends of agricultural pollutions and their impact on the health of the population of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The main research methods include a bibliographic review of the literature on the research subject, as well as qualitative and quantitative analysis of statistical indicators of agricultural production development, and the dynamics of agroecological indicators of the Republic of Kazakhstan. To assess the impact of agricultural changes on the quality of life associated with the health of the population, the analysis of secondary data of sociological research conducted by the Environmental Fund of Kazakhstan was carried out. The results of the study show that since 1999 the agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan has undergone structural changes which are characterized by active mechanization, intensification, and specialization. At the same time, the widespread use of fertilizers and pesticides, as well as irrigation, the growth of pollution from livestock, and the employment of heavy machinery have adverse effects on water and soil.

Quality of life assessment has been proposed as a possible research tool for evaluating the life experiences of individuals in different cultures. The bulk of the literature on quality of life recognizes the existence of two separate but related measures of quality of life: objective measures (tangible and observable measures) and subjective measures (cognitive assessment or satisfaction with existing tangibles). The question is whether the subjective and objective measure of general quality of life of one culture can be used to assess or predict the quality of life in another. The current investigation suggests quality of life is best assessed within the context of the culture in which the individual resides and makes recommendations for social work education to reinforce cultural sensitivity through study abroad in order to prepare future social workers to meet the social service demands in a globalized world.

Objective. To determine the effect of bisoprolol or carvedilol therapy on the regulatory-adaptive status (RAS) of patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) and preserved ejection fraction (pEF) of the left ventricle (LV) the background of hypertensive disease (HD).Material and methods. The study involved 68 patients with CHF and pEF of the LV, who were randomized into two groups for treatment with bisoprolol (7,3±2,4 mg/day, n=34) and carvedilol (28,4±12,3 mg/day, n=34). As part of the combination therapy, quinapril was prescribed (13,5±2,5 mg/ day, n=34 and 12,6±2,9 mg/day, n=34), and if indicated – atorvastatin (16,3±5,0 mg/day, n=11 and 15,5±5,2 mg/day, n=11) and acetylsalicylic acid in the intestinal soluble shell (93,8±17,7 mg/day, n=8 and 94,4±15,8 mg/day, n=8), respectively. Initially and after 6 months of therapy were carried out: quantitative assessment of RAS (by means of a sample of cardiac-respiratory synchronism), treadmill test, six-minute walking test, subjective assessment of quality of life, determination of the level of N-terminal fragment of brain natriuretic peptide, echocardioscopy, daily monitoring of blood pressure.Results. Both regimens of combined drug therapy had comparable cardioprotective, hypotensive and neuromodulating effects, equally increased exercise tolerance. In comparison with bisoprolol, carvedilol differed positive impact on RAS, improved quality of life more.Conclusion. In patients with CHF and pEF LV in combination therapy, the use of carvedilol, in comparison with bisoprolol, may be preferable due to the positive effect on the RAS.

Poor oral hygiene and diseases of the teeth and oral tissues can affect all aspects of patients' lives. The aim of the study was to determine the subjective assessment of oral and general health and their impact on the quality of life in elderly patients. The research included 46 patients, geriatric center users, who were asked questions from a three-part questionnaire. The first part of the questionnaire referred to the basic sociodemografic data. The second part of the questionnaire was the modified Oral Impacts of Daily Performance (OIDP), followed by an assessment of general and oral health by the patient. Likert's five-step scale (1 - 5) determined the frequency and intensity of the difficulties encountered, as well as the subjective assessment of the state of health. Based on the modified OIDP questionnaire, we found that all patients had some difficulties due to oral complaints. Even 86.96% of patients, due to with the existence of oral symptoms, experienced eating disorders, difficulties in enjoying food, laughing and showing teeth without any discomfort, as well as enjoying socializing with other people. Patients with partial edentulism had higher OIDP scores than edentulous patients. OIDP scores did not depend on sex, marital status, or on the educational structure of patients. Respondents with serious difficulties had a statistically significantly higher need for dental interventions. Improvement of oral health and frequent dental examinations could improve the functions of the orofacial system, the appearance and self-confidence of patients, which would have a positive impact on their social life.

Abstract Background The task of modern medicine is not just to heal, but also to improve the patient’s well-being and achieve non-medical goals in the therapy process that enable effective physical, mental and social functioning of the patient. Social support in difficult situations mobilizes an individual’s strength and resources to cope with problems. Research on social support and women’s condition after pregnancy loss reflects a holistic approach to the patient and is important from the perspective of increasing the level of hospital care. Objective The aim of our study was to assess the impact of social support on the psychophysical condition, health, and satisfaction with quality of life among women after miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy. Methods The cross-sectional study was carried out in a group of 500 patients after miscarriage and 110 with ectopic pregnancy, hospitalized in hospitals in Lublin (Poland). The study was conducted with the use of a diagnostic survey, comprising the Berlin Social Support Scales (BSSS) and an original survey questionnaire (psychophysical condition, satisfaction with health and quality of life on a scale of 1–4, sources of support on a scale of 1–10, with 1 being the poorest rating). Results Respondents after miscarriage and those after ectopic pregnancy assigned the highest scores to the degree of perceived available instrumental support (respectively, miscarriage: M = 3.79, EP: M = 3.77). Women after pregnancy loss assigned the highest score to the support obtained from their partner (respectively, miscarriage: M = 9.26, EP: M = 9.23). Social support was significantly correlated with the condition of patients hospitalized as a result of pregnancy loss (p < 0.05). The assessment of psychophysical condition, health, and QoL of the respondents is determined by their education, financial standing, and obstetric history (p < 0.05). Conclusions Women hospitalized due to miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy assigned high scores to the level of perceived available instrumental, emotional, and actually received social support. There is a positive relationship between social support and subjective opinion about psychophysical condition, health and satisfaction with quality of life among women after pregnancy loss. The assessment is determined by sociodemographic factors and the respondents’ obstetric history.

Introduction: Palliative care not only focuses on physical ailments associated with the disease, but also considers the psychological, social and spiritual needs of the patients. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of physical activity on palliative care patients, with special regard to the subjective assessment of severity of total pain and quality of life. Materials and methods: The study was conducted on 92 palliative care patients either in a hospice or at home. The tool used to assess the patients was an original questionnaire focusing on the area of their independence and motor abilities. The study attempted to understand whether an appropriate physical activity and the instruction of palliative care patients and their families in the field of independence would improve the quality of life and reduce the intensity of total pain in the patients. Results: All of the patients were at an advanced stage of cancer. The survey at time “0”, conducted before the start of the instructions for patients and their relatives, showed that a majority of patients (47, 51.09%) often experienced limitations during the performance of daily activities. In the fourth visit, conducted one week after the fourth educational session, there was a significant increase in patients who did not experience any limitations in performing their daily activities or experienced them just sometimes. Conclusions: The ultimate effect of the proposed educational program on physical activity was an increase in the quality of life, a reduction in pain and a mood improvement. These results would need confirmation with more extensive studies.

The article attempts to answer the following question. What types of investment affect the quality of life of residents to the greatest extent? In order to achieve these objectives, surveys were conducted for the period January – April 2014. The samples for the research were not made by randomised choice, but instead used the snowball method. The results indicated that the subjective assessment of the quality of life for residents is high.
