The connection between athletes and technology has developed in recent years, with the focus on how lives are augmented and presented through this relationship. Building on previous reflections concerning the use of information and communication technology (ICT) to support the sometimes fractious experiences of sport migration, we suggest a need to develop our understandings of migrant athletes’ use of ICT by interrogating socially-embedded processes driving its usage. In so doing, we draw on 18 semistructured interviews with professional basketball migrants based (at the time) in the United Kingdom but whose seasonal work moves them frequently across the globe. We explore these participants’ experiences through the lens of Appadurai’s model of scapes and disjuncture. With this framework we explore themes of negotiation, need, expectation, and barriers. Consequently, we propose expanding how we understand migrant athletes’ relationships with technology.

This study examines the relationship between an information and communication technology (ICT) environment developed by strong national policy and the level of user trust in cyberspace in South Korea, using a secondary data analysis of a national survey dataset. We categorised a subsample into the following types of online activities: ‘content creation’, ‘transaction’ and ‘communication’. Each category was analysed by the types of information and the users’ experience while using the internet. The results revealed that the more internet experience a user had, the less they trusted information in cyberspace. In contrast, less experienced users perceived information in cyberspace to be more trustworthy. This was especially evident during transaction and content creation activities. These results differ from existing studies, which showed that developments to the ICT environment with increased internet usage were strongly correlated with increased trust. We present some suggestions drawn from the results of this study that focus on online trust in relation to the ICT environment.

This chapter investigates the Schools Intergenerational Nurturing and Learning (SIGNAL) project at Liverpool Hope University and its impact on communities of learning within some of the most deprived areas of the United Kingdom. Embracing the wide aims of Citizenship Education in England, SIGNAL encompasses intergenerational and partnership activities, volunteerism, values education, and entrepreneurial learning shaped to assist with the unique issues faced by diverse school communities. Central to the project is the engagement of service-learning (SL) focussed student teachers, and their use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Whereas the majority of research about SL investigates its value to participating students (Eyler & Giles, 1999, 2002), less documentation can be found demonstrating its value to recipients. This chapter will look at the reciprocal value of SL projects utilising ICT for school communities, drawing its research from past projects delivered across Liverpool since 1999 and celebrated at www.schoolsinteractive.co.uk.

ICT (Information and Communication Technology ) is the mostly discussed and observed subject matter now a days. In the all round progress of an economy , this sector has a key role to play. An economy cannot thrive well with proper information and communication technology. In driving the development of financial inclusion and sustainable development the role played by information and communication technology , cannot be overlooked. This infrastructure plays a crucial role ,enhancing the technical progress and thereby total productivity of the economy. Moreover previous findings have also showed a positive correlation of ICT on economic growth. This paper studies the role of ICT by using a multiple regression analysis. We have used mainly secondary data to arrive a logical conclusion. It is expected that this paper will help the policy makers and the researchers in analyzing and understanding the importance of financial inclusiveness for economic development.

This paper argues that there are three factors, which counter the inevitable movement towards globalisation. Firstly the incremental force of technology as illustrated by the growth stage model of the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is flawed. This model implies a linearity of development and an inevitability of stage following stage. While this stage model may provide historic explanation for the development in the developed world and amongst the mature users, the model fails when used predictively for the developing nations or for the late adopters. Secondly the imperialism of technology overcoming all barriers fails to reconcile the cultural dimensions of both the developing context or the application domain. Technology is not culturally neutral but is developed in a cultural context and in the case of information rich applications carries that cultural within its design. Applications of culturally developed systems, such as office and management systems assume the user’s compliance with the design culture, but this inevitably leads to cultural clashes as we apply outside the design context. Thirdly the assumption of universality of economic access and development is incompatible with both the reality and development paths in both developed and developing countries. This inevitably will lead to a divided society split between the internationally mobile, technology-supported communities and those communities disadvantaged economically and technologically but culturally rich. The failure to bridge this gap may leave society as a whole weakened through lack of access to ‘variety’. The paper discusses these perspectives and illustrates the case with evidence from NE Asia and the United Kingdom. In particular it focuses on software development and information-rich contexts.

Facing the challenges of globalization in the field of education, the presence of information and communication technology has a significant influence on learning activities. The main challenge, including even the most sophisticated education system, lies in the capacity of educators to use ICT effectively in educational activities. The contribution of ICTs in building new relationships between higher education and the community, to bridge the education gap, policy makers are required to prepare strategies to produce knowledge-based skills and capacities. This type of research is qualitative. The data source consists of primary data and secondary data. Research informants are users or users of E-learning. Data collection techniques in the form of literature review of books, journals, reports on the use of information and communication technology in the education field from updated sources and observed case observations. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation and data verification. The results of the study found that the benefits of ICT for education functioned as a tool for lifelong learning; bring changes in the role of educators in teaching and the role of learners in learning; provide open access to material and interactive information through the network; eliminate time and space constraints in the learning environment; support learning and education organizations and management; and open opportunities for collaboration. Integration of ICT in e-learning into a process of internalizing values in ICT learning can be transformed, so that by integrating education in e-learning as teaching material, habituation, assignment, and exemplary become integral, holistic parts, which are continually being studied, understood, practiced in everyday life. The contribution of ICT in e-learning to the success of the world of education is a strategy of implementation and professional development in the field of ICT must refer to learning and teaching activities
