The possibility of using a morpho-geometric method for determining the indices of the fluctuating asymmetry of Асеr pseudoplatanus L. leaf for bioindication is evaluated. The material was collected on the roadside territories of motorways of the city of Donetsk with different traffic intensity. The values of the fluctuating asymmetry of A. pseudoplatanus leaf blade, grown in conditions of city roadside ecosystems, are increased with the increase in the transport load, obtained through Procrustean analysis of variance. The morphogeometric method for determining the fluctuating asymmetry showed greater sensitivity in comparison with the use of an index calculated by the normalizing formula based on measurements of individual bilateral features. It is expedient to carry out studies in which the task is to accumulate data on the dynamics of fluctuating asymmetry indices obtained by a morphogeometric method, with a view to the subsequent widespread application of this approach for bioindication and biomonitoring of the state of the environment.

Morphological changes occur in the leaves of trees under the influence of various air pollutants. Recording and assessing these changes reflects the state of the environment. The aim of the study was to assess the level of air pollution in the city of Kineshma, Ivanovo region, using the bioindication method. The technique of morphometry of pedunculate oak leaves and calculation of the index of fluctuating asymmetry were used. In all points of the city, a high asymmetry of oak leaf blades was noted, which indicates a critical level of atmospheric pollution. Ecotoxicants contained in emissions from enterprises and vehicles significantly violate the bilateral symmetry of oak leaf blades.

Due to the widespread application of geographic information systems (GIS) and GPS technology and the increasingly mature infrastructure for data collection, sharing, and integration, more and more research domains have gained access to high-quality geographic data and created new ways to incorporate spatial information and analysis in various studies. There is an urgent need for effective and efficient methods to extract unknown and unexpected information, e.g., co-location patterns, from spatial datasets of high dimensionality and complexity. A co-location pattern is defined as a subset of spatial items whose instances are often located together in spatial proximity. Current co-location mining algorithms are unable to quantify the spatial proximity of a co-location pattern. We propose a co-location pattern miner aiming to discover co-location patterns in a multidimensional spatial data by measuring the cohesion of a pattern. We present a model to measure the cohesion in an attempt to improve the efficiency of existing methods. The usefulness of our method is demonstrated by applying them on the publicly available spatial data of the city of Antwerp in Belgium. The experimental results show that our method is more efficient than existing methods.

MONITOR is a joint research effort between a number of research institutions and the city of Stockholm. It aims at developing an environmental information system based on (i) accounlings of flows and stocks of materials and energy (environmental pressure) as well as describing the (ii) state of the environment and the (iii ) environmental impact in an integrated way. In MONITOR, data from existing environmental monitoring in Stockholm is integrated with new information on material flows and stocks. A first prototype, illustrating the potential benefits of MONITOR has been developed. A long-term goal is to develop a tool for an improved economising of materials and energy in the Stockholm region. In the paper, the MONITOR programme is presented as well as initial practical approaches to the work.

Introduction. The paper presents the results of the studies on assessing the quality of the aquatic ecosystem of a lake located within the city. The European perch (Perca fluviatilis L.) and the Gibel carp (Carassius gibelio) were used as an indicator for determining the quality of the aquatic ecosystem by the method of fluctuating asymmetry. Problem Statement. The aim of the work was to conduct monitoring with the subsequent assessment of the quality of the ecosystem of the city lake using the method of fluctuating asymmetry (hereinafter FA). Theoretical and Practical Part. The quality of the urban lake aquatic ecosystem was assessed using the FA method (indicators: the European perch (Perca fluviatilis L.), 1758 and the Gibel carp (Carassius auratus Bloch), 1783). To identify the reasons for the high PFA values, a chemical analysis (in an accredited laboratory) of the gills of the Gibel carp for heavy metals was performed. Conclusions. As a result of the research, the FA indicators values for these indicators were obtained. According to the results of a laboratory study of the content of heavy metals in the gill arches of the Gibel carp, an excess of the maximum permissible concentration of 8 out of 10 analyzed elements was revealed. It has been established that the ecosystem of the city lake Kenon is experiencing a significant anthropogenic load (5 points — the critical quality of the aquatic environment) and it continues to increase towards the deterioration of the habitat.

The present study has an exploratory nature and aims to analyze the perception of managers on the efficiency, access importance, use as a communication tool, benefits and difficulties of Internet use in Brazilian hotels and also its effects according to the facilities rank and property size plus managers’ age and experience time. It has been used as a questionnaire to collect data from the managers of 35 hotels in the city of Natal, RN, Brazil. By using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Tukey test, results showed that there is almost no significant difference on the perception of managers on the impact of Internet use in hotels. However, those variables that were different show that for younger and less experienced managers and luxurious hotels with more than 50 rooms, there is a more favorable perception on the impacts of the Internet.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of Urochloa hybrid Convert HD364 applied in different doses as a vegetable biostimulant under grazing simulation in intermittent stocking in the city of Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. The treatments consisted of a control (absence of biostimulant) and in 5 doses of biostimulant, 0.25; 0.5; 0.75; 1.0 and 1.25 L ha-1, in a randomized complete block design with 4 replicates. Productive and qualitative parameters were evaluated. The data were submitted to analysis of variance, using for the comparison of means, the Regression test at 5% of significance. The biostimulant promotes an increase in the accumulation of DM and in the rate of accumulation of forage, leaves and stems of Urochloa hybrid and reduction in the percentage of dead material and the L:S ratio of Urochloa hybrid.

The article presents the study of leaf morphological features of Populus tremula L. Growing under the conditions of the influence emissions from Burshtynska TPP. The methods of linear morphometry were used to analyze the variability of the morphological parameters of leaves at high levels of pollutants. In the zone of influence of the industrial object there is a significant decrease in the foliar parameters. Uneven variability of morphological parameters between the study plots of industrial pollution and with minimized technogenic load are revealed. Levels of variability of morphological parameters are estimated using coefficient of variation, which for most of the analyzed morphological features at the polluted plot load is characterized by high and average values. The most varied ones were the distance between the first and second veins and the length of the second vein from the base of the leaf vein. For bioindication of anthropogenic load, an index of fluctuating asymmetry of P. tremul leaf blades has been tested. The analysis of the fluctuating asymmetry was based on leaf linear measurements and area of the halves of leaf blades. The results indicated an increase in fluctuating asymmetry index in plant growing at the polluted plot, both in linear measurements and in area indices. The comparison of the two approaches to the estimation of the level of fluctuating asymmetry has been carried out. As a result of this study, those foliar morphometric parameters of P. tremula, which exhibit high morphological reactivity under the influence of anthropogenic load, can be used as bioindicatory markers for assessing the state of the environment. A reliable indicator of technological pressure is the level of fluctuating asymmetry that can be recommended for use in bioindicative studies.

The paper provides information on the index of fluctuating asymmetry of the Pitsunda pine in industrial and recreational areas in the city of Tuapse (the Russian Black Sea coast of the Caucasus). It is shown that pollution is localized in the port area, and in the city center, the fluctuating asymmetry index is comparable to that for resort areas at a considerable distance from the Tuapse port. The necessity of taking into account the climate when using the coefficient of fluctuating asymmetry of the needles of the Mediterranean (Pitsunda) pine in assessing the degree of ecological well-being of various areas is shown.
