AIMS: To report the experience with teaching of anesthesiology to medical students in a practical and interactive way, using simulators in clinical scenarios of anesthesia with predetermined tasks.EXPERIENCE REPORT: In the Medical School of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul simulated clinical settings are used in general anesthesia and anesthetic blockage teaching. Complete equipment and drugs specific to each simulation are available. Students have direct performance in the simulator to perform in the presented situations. For each conduct, choice of drugs and doses required, filming are performed with the purpose of fixing and improve knowledge.CONCLUSIONS: Medical teaching of anesthesiology with the use of simulators tends to be increasingly used, since it inserts the student in simulated situations close to the reality of the anesthetic process, in an interactive and attractive way without the real risk. Clinical situations of anesthesia or complications can be repeated until the fixation of knowledge and skills, before facing a situation with real patients.

This book, which has the age vulnerability of elderly prisoners materialized by the oblivion of this portion of the population by penitentiary policies as its central theme, was elaborated in the scope of the Postgraduate Program in Social Policy and Rights of the Catholic University of Pelotas, within the line of Human Rights, Security and Access to Justice research. From the study of the population and prison aging, the penal execution legislation, the penitentiary policies, as well as from the contributions of the Recognition Theory, a theoretical basis is built for dialoguing during the interviews with the elderly prisoners in two prison houses of the 5th Penitentiary Region of Rio Grande do Sul. Categories considered as factors related to aging and that would contribute to greater vulnerability of the elderly are raised and discussed based on the idea that the denial of aging by society, and consequent omission of the elderly in Brazilian penitentiary policies, generates the problem confirmed by this thesis: the existence of age vulnerability of the elderly in prison.

The vertical distribution of pollinators is an important component in the foraging pattern of plants strata, and it influences the reproductive system (pollen/ovule ratio) and seed/ovule ratio. Niches in two different strata from Adesmia tristis Vogel were evaluated in these aspects. This plant is an endemic shrub from the Campos de Cima da Serra in Southern Brazil. The studies were carried out from January 2010, to January 2011, at Pró-Mata/PUCRS (Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul) (29°27′-29°35′S and 50°08′-50°15′W), São Francisco de Paula, sate of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Breeding system of A. tristis is mandatory allogamy. The vertical profile in A. tristis has differentiated foraging niches among the most common pollinators. Bees of Megachile genus forage in the upper stratum, and representative bees of the Andrenidae family explore the lower stratum. The upper stratum of the vertical profile had more contribution to seed production. Adesmia tristis showed evidence of pollination deficit.
