El artículo aborda el problema enfrentado por la crítica literaria en la búsqueda de una identidad latinoamericana, ya que al tratar de reflexionar sobre el tema, surgen varias inquietudes con respecto a los propios términos.En este estudio intentamos definir términos tales como crítica, literatura latinoamericana, y la identidad. La contribución es, por lo tanto, de aclaración.Por último, se sugiere lo que debería ser la tarea de la crítica y el papel de la crítica en el contexto de América Latina, con el sincretismo cultural y la unidad de los temas que le dan una identidad. Tiene que ser una tarea creativa, una que da a luz la ideología y el conocimiento, que se manifiesta dialécticamente la relación producción-significante, la sociedad y la historia, y que hace evidente la la síntesis cultural que América Latina proyecta como su imagen. The articIe discusses the problem confronted by literary criticism in the search for a Latin American identity, inasmuch as while attempting to reflect on the subject, there arise several concems regarding the terms themselves.In this study we attempt to define such terms as criticism, critic, Latin American literature, and identity. The contribution is, therefore, one of cIarification.Finally, we suggest what should be the task of criticism and the role of the critic in the Latin American context, with the cultural sincretism and unity of issues that give it an identity. It must be a creative task, one that brings forth ideology and knowledge, that manifests dialectically the production-signifier relationship, society and history, and that evinces the cultural synthesis that Latin America projects as its image.

Resumo: O presente artigo reflete sobre a proposta das pedagogias decoloniais (Catherine Walsh) como práticas pedagógicas a partir dos estudos do tambor na América Latina. As práticas e narrativas ancestrais do povo negro permitiram sua sobrevivência em espaços colonizados, mas tais sabedorias não foram incorporadas aos currículos eurocentrados das universidades. Pensando na decolonização da universidade (Restrepo) e na aceitação de epistemologias do sul (Boaventura Santos) como formadoras de um conhecimento amplo, heterogêneo e agregador, serão apresentadas duas atividades desenvolvidas a partir da/fora da academia: a oficina O mito de Mackandal, que oferece a escolas e associações comunitárias atividade para contar a história da Revolução Haitiana e a Pedagogia do Sopapo, encontros no Ponto de Cultura Quilombo do Sopapo, na cidade de Porto Alegre. Entende-se que a proposta decolonial propõe questionamentos do profundo eurocentrismo que desqualificou o pensamento dos sujeitos coloniais e permite que se pensem novas formas de (re)contar a história agregando valores e conhecimentos do povo negro, invisibilizado na construção epistemológica da América Latina.Palavras-chave: Literatura Afro-latino-americana. Pedagogia do Sopapo.  This article reflects on the proposal of decolonial pedagogies (Catherine Walsh) as pedagogical practices from the studies of the drum in Latin America. The ancestral practices and narratives of the black people allowed their survival in colonized spaces, but such wisdoms have not been incorporated into the Eurocentric curricula of the universities. Thinking about the decolonization of the university (Restrepo) and the acceptance of southern epistemologies (Boaventura Santos) as generators of broad, heterogeneous and aggregating knowledge, two activities will be presented from / outside the academy: (1) Mackandal's Myth workshop, which offers schools and community associations an activity to tell the story of the Haitian Revolution;  and the (2) Sopapo Pedagogy meetings at the Quilombo Culture Point in Sopapo, in the city of Porto Alegre. It is understood that the decolonial proposal challenges the profound Eurocentrism that disqualified the way the colonial subjects thought and, on the orher hand, allows to think of new ways of (re) telling the history adding values and knowledge of the black people, which are invisible in the epistemological construction of Latin America. Key-works: Afro-Latin-American Literature. Resumen: El presente trabajo constituye un recorrido bibliográfico por la crítica y la teoría literaria hispanoamericana de los últimos 50 años, sin afán de exhaustividad, como tarea colectiva (congresos etc) y personal. Sus hitos más significativos son: cómo se formó y fue derivando el canon literario en Hispanoamérica. Las teorías postcoloniales y su aplicación al Nuevo Mundo. Las orientaciones de la crítica y la teoría literaria en / sobre Latinoamérica. La irrupción y pervivencia de los estudios culturales. The study gives a brief overview of some of the most important characteristics of this so far little researched topic as well as provides some examples of the main representatives.

Desde que autores como Germani (1962), Di Tella (1969) e Ianni (1975) aplicaram a noção de populismo à América Latina, muito se escreveu sobre o tema. O conceito se estirou tanto que tem servido para definir políticos os mais díspares. Com a ausência das condições socioeconômicas descritas pelas formulações clássicas, a estratégia adotada é limitar a categoria à dimensão política. Esse procedimento, porém, não é capaz de descrever atributos exclusivos suficientes para que o populismo seja um fenômeno específico. Ao mesmo tempo, o conceito está tão enraizado que não é viável abandoná-lo. A solução proposta é avaliar em quais características um político se aproxima e se afasta dos casos paradigmáticos do passado. Assim, ele pode ser populista em certos aspectos e não em outros. Com esse procedimento, se chega a uma classificação, em que um líder apresente mais ou menos atributos descritos pelas definições clássicas, eliminando a necessidade de reformulação constante do conceito para adaptá-lo a novas circunstâncias. Também haveria menos espaço a que o rótulo de populista continuasse servindo para desqualificar políticos latino-americanos. Con la ausencia de las condiciones socioeconómicas descritas por las formulaciones clásicas, la estrategia adoptada es concentrarse en la dimensión política. Ese procedimiento, sin embargo, no es capaz de describir atributos exclusivos suficientes para que el populismo sea un fenómeno específico. Al mismo tiempo, el concepto está tan enraizado que no es viable abandonarlo. La solución propuesta es evaluar en cuales características un político se acerca y se aleja de los casos paradigmáticos del pasado. Así, ello puede ser populista en ciertos aspectos y no en otros. El artículo presenta definiciones clásicas y recientes aplicadas a la América Latina y discute la viabilidad empírica de la estrategia de concentrarse en la dimensión política.Palabras-clave: populismo; América Latina; casos paradigmáticos; clasificación.---THE APPLICATION OF THE CONCEPT OF POPULISM IN LATIN AMERICA: the need to classify and not disqualifyEver since authors such as Germani (1962), Di Tella (1969) and Ianni (1975) applied the notion of populism in Latin America, much has been written on the subject. The concept stretched out so much that it has served to define the most dissimilar politicians. In the absence of socioeconomic conditions described by classical formulations, the strategy adopted is to restrict the category to the political dimension. Such a procedure, however, is not capable of describing adequate particular attributes that populism would be a specific phenomenon. At the same time, the concept is so deeply embedded in our society that it is not feasible to abandon it. The proposed solution is to evaluate in which characteristics a politician reaches and moves away from the paradigmatic cases of the past. Thus, it can be populist in some respects and not in others. In such a procedure, we arrive at a classification in which a leader shows more or less attributes described by classical definitions, eliminating the need for constant reformulation of the concept to adapt it to new circumstances. Also, there would be less space to which the label of populist would continue to serve to disqualify Latin American politicians. The article discusses recent and classic settings applied to Latin America and assesses the empirical viability of focusing on the political dimension strategy.Key words: populism; Latin America; paradigmatic cases; classification.

This essay poses a question about the identity of Latin American literature in the 21st century. In the 1960s and 1970s, the Latin America Boom received recognition both locally and internationally, becoming the dominant means of defining Latin American literature up to the present. This essay explores new ways to understand this notion of Latin America in the literary scene. The case of the Argentine writer César Aira is relevant for analyzing alternative publishing circuits that connect various points of the region. These publishing houses foster a defiant way of establishing the value of literature.

Las características de la poesía de Héctor Viel Temperley han hecho de él un poeta de gran predicamento en el contexto literario argentino actual. En ella, la exaltación del cuerpo, del deporte, de la sensualidad y la sexualidad constituyen una peculiar forma de búsqueda de lo sagrado. En este sentido, la poesía del autor de Hospital Británico guarda similitudes con la inquietante lírica de William Blake. Aunque el tenor de la producción de Viel Temperley es diferente de la del inglés, hay en ambas una misma actitud de exaltación del cuerpo como vía de acceso a lo sagrado. En el presente trabajo, abordaré algunos textos de ambos autores como muestras de una mística del cuerpo.Palabras clave: Poesía; Literatura latinoamericana; Mística; Viel Temperley; Blake.AbstractThe characteristics of Héctor Viel Temperley’s poetry have made him a prestigious poet in the Argentinian literary current context. In this poetry, the exaltation of the body, sport, sensuality and sexuality, do not contradict but makes a peculiar way of search for the sacred. In this sense, the poetry of the author of Hospital Británico is related to William Blake’s disturbing poetry. Obviously, the tenor of both poetic outputs are different, but a similar attitude towards the body and its exaltation as a way of purifi cation can be noticed in both. This volume's ambition is to respond to major interpretations of Latin American literature—such as Ángel Rama's Transculturación narrativa en América Latina (1982), John Beverley’s Against Literature (1993) and Testimonio (2004), Alberto Moreiras's Tercer espacio (1999), and Brett Levinson's The Ends of Literature (2001)—and to define the contours of this counter-tradition conceived as "a multidisciplinary, minoritarian, and multimedial 'body' of writing that produces affects and new modes of perception" (7).

Abstract This article provides a broad overview of social, economic, and cultural politics in Latin America, especially concentrating on what became known as the Latin American literary “boom” in the 1960s and 1970s, and the region’s political context - colonial past, neocolonial/neoliberal present, the role of intellectuals within the state and cultural affairs. The second part focuses on Roberto Bolaño - the writer who put Latin American literature on the world map which has not been seen since the boom years - and his novel The Savage Detectives. The aim of this article is to demonstrate that literature not only shares common elements and possible intentions with social and political critique, but that it can also be an effective form of social and political criticism. In such a case, Bolaño’s work may be read not as inferior fictional account but as a complex, intersectional investigation of socioeconomic as well as ontological condition in Latin America that other modes of inquiry may overlook.

AbstractThis article seeks to explain the recent popularity of South Asian Anglophone literature (beginning in 1981 and peaking between 1998 and 2008) in light of the boom in Latin American literature of the 1960s. It argues that the phenomenon of regional literary “booms” shares features across both eras, and that a unified theory of booms is increasingly important to understanding the way contemporary literature circulates around the globe. Scholarship about both eras has tended to coalesce around three types of boom-driving agents: “creators,” “contexts,” and “curators.” Within that broader agreement, however, scholarship about the South Asian boom has tended to overemphasize the political symbolism of recent South Asian Anglophone literature and its global popularity, while under-emphasizing the political realities that create the conditions under which that literature became popular. This line of criticism has come at the expense of attention to literature’s other dimensions as a cultural object, as well as contextual explanations of popularity involving the role of governments, demographics, and market flows. The more diverse scholarship on the Latin American boom offers a corrective with insights for both the future of South Asian Anglophone literature and the field of World Literature.
