Ba(Ti1−xSnx)O3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.3) thin films were deposited on a platinized silicon substrate by a solution deposition process with methoxyethanol, water, and propylene glycol as solvents. Dielectric properties and current–voltage characteristics of the thin films were investigated in conjunction with phase evolution and microstructures by varying heating temperatures and Sn contents (x). Thin films annealed above 700 °C showed a pure perovskite phase with nanoscaled grains (20–30 nm). The dielectric constant of the thin films depended on the Sn content and showed a maximum value of 330 at x = 0.15. The leakage current behavior of an optimum composition corresponding to x = 0.15 was examined by correlating with charge transport mechanisms. Schottky emission was found to be predominant at voltages less than 6.8 V, and Fowler–Nordheim tunneling appeared to be responsible above 6.8 V. The Schottky barrier of the Ba(Ti0.85Sn0.15)O3–Pt interface was determined to be 1.49 eV.

sup>57Fe-enriched BiFeO3 (BFO) thin films were fabricated on SiO2/Si substrates from a stoichiometric precursor solution by chemical solution deposition process. The Bi/Fe molar ratio of the thin films decreased from 0.95 to 0.80 with increase in the sintering temperature. A perovskite phase and flat surface were obtained in the BFO thin films sintered at 500 and 600 °C. However, the 57Fe Mössbauer spectra showed a mixture phase due to amorphous and/or Bi2Fe4O9 phases in the BFO thin films. The valence state of Fe ions of the BFO thin films was confirmed to be only Fe3+ by the Mössbauer spectra.

In the present work, polycrystalline Bi0.67La0.33Fe0.5Sc0.5O3 thin films were synthesized using a simple and cost-effective chemical solution deposition process employing the spin coating technique. In order to check the feasibility of the fabrication of thin films on various types of substrates, the films were deposited on Pt-coated silicon, silicon, sapphire, corundum, fused silica and glass. Based on the results of thermogravimetric analysis of precursor and thermal stability study, it was determined that the optimal annealing temperature for the formation of perovskite structure is 600 °C. It was observed that the relative intensity of the pseudocubic peaks (001)p and (011)p in the XRD patterns is influenced by the nature of substrates, suggesting that the formed crystallites have some preferred orientation. Roughness of the films was determined to be dependent on the nature of the substrate.

ABSTRACTThe (100), (111) and randomly oriented PZT thin films were fabricated on Pt/Ti/Coming 7059 glass using sol-gel method. The thin films having different orientation were fabricated by different drying conditions for pyrolysis. The preferred orientations of the PZT thin films were observed using XRD, rocking curves, and pole figures. The microstructures were investigated using SEM. The hysteresis loops and capacitance-voltage characteristics of the films were investigated using a standardized ferroelectric test system. The dielectric constant and current-voltage characteristics of the films were investigated using an impedance analyzer and pA meter, respectively. The films oriented in a particular direction showed superior electrical characteristics to the randomly oriented films.

The photoconductivity of a nanocomposite MEH-PPV:TiO2 thin film is investigated. The nanocomposite MEH-PPV:TiO2 thin film was deposited on a glass substrate by spin coating technique. The composition of the TiO2 powder was varied from 5 wt% to 20 wt% (with 5 wt% interval). The concentration of the MEH-PPV is given by 1 mg/1 ml. The current voltage characteristics were measured in dark and under illumination. The photoconductivity showed increment in value as the composition of the TiO2 is raised in the polymer based solution. The absorption showed augmentation as the amount of TiO2 is increased. The escalation of the current voltage is then supported by the results of surface morphology.

AbstractPerovskite-phase lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thin films were fabricated at 4751C by the electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) plasma enhanced DC magnetron multi-target reactive sputtering method on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si and Pt/SiO2/Si substrates. Stoichiometric perovskite PZT films were readily obtained on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates because Ti atoms which were out-diffused to the Pt surface facilitated Pb incorporation by forming lead titanate at the early stage of deposition process. Activation of oxygen by ECR plasma facilitated the oxidation reaction and Pb incorporation into the film. Thus perovskite-phase PZT can be obtained on the Pt/SiO2/Si substrate.

La-doped bismuth titanate (Bi4-xLaxTi3O12: BLT) and pure Bi4Ti3O12 (BIT) thin films with random orientation were fabricated on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates by rf magnetron sputtering technique. These samples had polycrystalline Bi-layered perovskite structure without preferred orientation, and consisted of well developed rod-like grains with random orientation. For the samples with x=0.25 and 1.0 the current-voltage characteristics exhibited negative differential resistance behaviors and their P-V hysteresis loops were characterized by large leakage current, whereas for the samples with x=0.5 and 0.75 the current-voltage characteristics showed simple ohmic behaviors and their P-V hysteresis loops were the saturated and undistorted hysteresis loops. The remanent polarization ( Pr ) and coercive field (Ec) of the BLT ceramic with x=0.75 were above 20μC/cm2 and 85KV/cm , respectively.
