ABSTRACTIn this work we present the structural, and vibrational properties of ferroelectric Pb1-xSrxTiO3 (PST). Thin films of PST were prepared by using sol-gel technique for various compositions with x values ranging from 0.0–1.0. Respective compositions were also prepared in ceramic and powder forms using sol-gel and solid-state reaction methods. X-ray diffraction was used for the structural characterization of these materials. Raman spectroscopy was utilized to study the phases and lattice vibrational modes, especially the soft mode in PST compositions. The temperature dependence of the soft mode frequency for different PST compositions revealed that the phase transition temperatures increased with increasing Pb contents in PST system. Ferroelectric properties of the films were correlated with the substitution-induced changes in the material.

ABSTRACTThin films of SrBi2Nb2O9 (SBN) with thicknesses of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 μ were grown by Sol-gel technique on silicon, and annealed at 650°C. The SBN films were investigated by Raman scatering for the first time. Raman spectra in some of the samples present bands around 60, 167, 196, 222, 302, 451, 560, 771, 837, and 863 cm−1, which correspond to the SBN formation. The study indicates that the films are inhomogeneous, and only in samples with thicknesses 0.4 μ the SBN material was found in some places. The prominent Raman band around 870 cm−1, which is the A1g mode of the orthorhombic symmetry, is assigned to the symmetric stretching of the NbO6 octahedrals. The frequency of this band is found to shift in different places in the same sample, as well as from sample to sample. The frequency shifts and the width of the Raman bands are discussed in term of ions in non-equilibrium positions. FT-IR spectra reveal a sharp peak at 1260 cm−1, and two broad bands around 995 and 772 cm−1. The bandwidths of the latter two bands are believed to be associated with the presence of a high degree of defects in the films. The experimental results of the SBN films are compared with those obtained in SBT (T=Ta) films. X-ray diffraction and SEM techniques are also used for the structural characterization.

In this study, thin films of CaBi4Ti4O15with preferential crystal orientation were prepared by the chemical solution deposition (CSD) technique on a SiO2/Si substrate. The films consisted of a crystalline phase of bismuth-layer-structured dielectric. The as-deposited CaBi4Ti4O15thin films were crystallized in a conventional furnace annealing (RTA) under the temperature of 700 to 800°C for 1min. Structural and morphological characterization of the CBT thin films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The impedance analyzer HP4294A and HP4156C semiconductor parameters analyzer were used to measurement capacitance voltage (C-V) characteristics and leakage current density of electric field (J-E) characteristics by metal-ferroelectric-insulator- semiconductor (MFIS) structure. By the experimental result the CBT thin film in electrical field 20V, annealing temperature in 750°C the CBT thin film leaks the electric current is 1.88x10-7A/cm2and the memory window is 1.2V. In addition, we found the strongest (119) peak of as-deposited thin films as the annealed temperature of 750°C

ZrO2 thin films containing silver nanoparticles were prepared using the sol-gel method with Ag to Zr molar ratios [Ag]/[Zr] = 0.11, 0.25, 0.43, 0.67, 1.00, 1.50, and 2.33. After dip coating on glass substrate, coated films were annealed at 200 and 300 °C in air. X-ray diffraction peaks corresponding to crystalline Ag were observed, but a specific peak corresponding to ZrO2 was not observed. At the molar ratio [Ag]/[Zr] = 0.25, the particle size of Ag distributed broadly centered at 17 nm for an annealing temperature of 200 °C and at 25 nm for 300 °C. The films annealed in air at 200 °C showed an absorption band centered at 450 nm because of the silver surface plasmon resonance, whereas films heated at 300 °C in air caused a red shift of the absorption to 500 nm. The absorption peak was analyzed using the effective dielectric function of Ag-ZrO2 composite films modeled with the Maxwell-Garnett expression.

In this work we show the results on tile growth and optical characterization of TiO 2 thin films doped with Eu atoms. Eu:TiO2 films were grown at room temperature with different Eu concentrations by sol-gel on Si Corning glass substrates. A different crystalline structure is developed for the films deposited on Corning glass than those deposited on Si as observed from x-ray diffraction experiments. Room and low temperature photoluminescence (PL) was measured by using two different lines (325 and 442 nm) of a HeCd laser. A strong PL signal associated to the 5 D 0→7 F 2 transition from Eu +3 was observed. A better emission was obtained from those films deposited on Si substrates, Finally, the evolution of the PL signal is studied when the samples are annealed at different temperatures in O 2 atmosphere.

Ba(Mg1/3Ta2/3)O3 thin films were prepared by a sol-gel process involving the reaction of barium isopropoxide, tantalum ethoxide, and magnesium acetate in 2-methoxyethanol and subsequently hydrolysis, spin-coating, and heat treatment. Transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy were used for the characterization of the thin films. It was shown that the thin films tend to crystallize with small grains sized below 100 nm. Crystalline phase with cubic (disordered) perovskite structure was formed in the samples annealed at a very low temperature (below 500 °C), and well-crystallized thin films were obtained at 700 °C. Although disordered perovskite is dominant in the thin films annealed below 1000 °C, a low volume fraction of 1 : 2 ordering domains was found in the samples and grows with an increase of annealing temperature.

Pure BiFeO3(BFO) and Bi0.9Nd0.1Fe0.925Mn0.075O3(BNFM) thin films were deposited on Pt(111)/Ti/SiO2/Si substrate by sol-gel method. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that all the films were single perovskite structure and a phase transition appeared in Nd–Mn codoped BiFeO3 thin films. Electrical measurements indicated that the ferroelectric properties of BFO thin films were significantly improved by Nd and Mn codoping. BNFM films exhibit a low leakage current and a good P-E hysteresis loop. The remanent polarization (Pr) value of 74μC/cm2has been obtained in BNFM films, while the coercive field (Ec) is 184kV/cm.

AbstractIn the study Li4/3Ti5/3O4 thin films were deposited on Pt substrates by sol-gel method using a spin coator. The coated films are dried at 310-360 °C, and then annealed at 500-800 °C for 30min. The prepared films were characterized by X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscope and scanning electron microscope. The results indicated that the prepared film belonged to a spinel structure and had a uniform morphology. Electrochemical properties of the prepared electrode films were evaluated by using a discharge and charge test. From these results, it can be showed that the thin film electrode annealed at 700 °C exhibited good crystallinity, smooth surface morphology, high capacity, and good rechargeability. Therefore, This film was therefore suitable for use as an anode for thin-film microbatteries.

ABSTRACT(PbBa)(ZrTiNb)03 thin films and powders have been prepared using the sol-gel technique. Solutions were synthesized in 2-methoxyethanol based upon our previous PZT solution preparation. Three different approaches were used for incorporating barium into PZT alkoxide solutions. Thermal analysis and x-ray diffraction results indicated that barium methoxypropoxide gave the best results. PBZTN (71% Pb and 71% Zr) was deposited onto sapphire substrates as well as oxidized silicon substrates. Optical transmission measurements showed greater than 80% transmission for wavelengths longer than 400 nm. Films with thickness of 3000 Å on sapphire exhibited a refractive index of 2.19 at λ=633 nm.

ABSTRACTNickel-substituted Bi4Ti3O12 (i.e., Bi4-xNixTi3O12) were synthesized by sol-gel process for different compositions. Thin films were deposited on Pt (i.e., Pt/TiO2/SiO2/Si) substrate by spin coating. Materials were characterized by x-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. This study indicates that the material makes a solid solution for the compositions: x = 0.00, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, and 0.30, where a Ni ion replaces the Bi site. The prominent effect of Ni substitution was observed in low-frequency Raman modes. Sol-gel derived thin films of Bi4-xNixTi3O12 on a Pt substrate and post annealed at 700°C were tested for ferroelectric response which showed high remnant polarization (Pr = 22 μC/cm2 for x = 0.15). The leakage current (less then 10−7 A/cm2) at low field was observed in the film with composition x = 0.15 .The polarization of the BNiT (x = 0.15) film decreased to 83% of the initial value after 1×109 switching cycles These results indicate the potential application of Ni substituted bismuth titanate films in non-volatile ferroelectric memories.
