The aim of this paper is the situation analysis or case study of the conflict between the cosmetics manufacturer "NATURA SIBERICA" (Russia) and its consumers. This conflict took place in 2017 as an interaction of the users of social networks. The importance of this study is that its object is the ongoing process of increasing the role that network society plays in discussing the value problems of contemporary society. This study shows the relevance of J. van Dyck's statement that digitalization promotes the transfer of communication about values in media network, and this constitutes the novelty of the paper. Accordingly, the objectives of the study were formulated as a description of the conflict situation and the definition of the subject of research as a manifestation of the complex interaction in contemporary network society; identifying the groups of irreducible values that caused the conceptual conflict; the analysis of these values from the perspective of law, as well as contemporary business ethics. The methodological approach that was chosen followed the complex nature of the subject of the study. As a general methodological approach the systematic method was used, which allows to determine the essence and key properties of the investigated phenomenon. The method of case analysis or case-study gave us the tools to implement this approach, taking into account the specifics of the object, as well as to connect the study to the practical task of finding the best solution in a situation of conflict of values. To analyze the unfolding of the conflict in conditions of virtual reality the structural-functional method was applied, which allowed conceptualizing the relationship between social phenomena of different levels. Using the method of ethical-philosophical analysis we revealed the content of the positions expressed by the participants of the conflict. The method of categorical analysis of legal texts was also applied. As a result of the study it was revealed that in a case of the gap in legal regulation it were the animal rights values and values of responsible consumption that provided the conceptual background for the positions articulated by the conflict participants. Next, we show that in this case the unfair advertising led to a crisis of consumers’ trust and caused the need to strengthen the ethical image of the company. Finally, this case of the company's reaction to the conflict could be conceptualized as an example of “best practice” for business ethics today.

To introduce both the subject of the book and its methodological approach, the Introduction takes up the case study of the date of Shakespeare’s baptism: 26 April 1564. Those who want to believe that the national poet was born on the national feast day (23 April, or St George’s Day), have compiled ‘evidence’ to prove it, but under close analysis the evidence disintegrates. We know his day of baptism but cannot know his birthday. Much of Shakespeare’s biography has been built out of similar ‘evidence clusters’. The book interrogates many of these old clusters and also assembles new ones. This involves close reading familiar historical documents contextually, referring to other examples from the same record classes to show how their conventions and textual practices shape their meaning. A further strategy is to include mini-biographies for some of Shakespeare’s cognates in Stratford-upon-Avon, the stories of parallel lives through which we can learn more about his own. The chapter also introduces the members of Shakespeare’s natal family.

PurposeThe study examines the responsibilisation of an ethnocentric consumer in commercial, meta-organisational discourses. In addition to nationalistic and patriotic discourses, the focus is on wider conceptualisations of consumer responsibility.Design/methodology/approachThe paper uses critical discourse analysis as a methodological approach to conduct an empirical case study on the texts of two producer-driven labelling campaigns.FindingsThe campaign texts create possibilities for ethnocentric consumption with positioning, argumentative and classificatory discourses. Patriotic responsibilisation is emphasised, together with rationales to take action on environmental concerns.Practical implicationsThe study highlights the responsibility of marketers over their corporate responsibility communication, suggesting that ethnocentric promotions may have the power to alter how consumers take action on various responsibility concerns.Social implicationsThe study surfaces the tensions that responsible consumption can entail for consumers. Indeed, nationalistic and patriotic discourses may alter our understanding of responsibility issues that may seem completely separate from the concepts of nationalism and patriotism.Originality/valueThe paper shows how different organisational texts are deployed to bring about the idea of ethnocentric consumption and how this relates to responsibility discourses, nationalism and patriotism.

Crime is an activity which is against the law and the fact that the linkage between criminal activities and the socio-economic development of the society is undeniable. Moreover, the relationship between crime and evolution of mankind may also be considered a historical one as Cain (first son of Adam and Eve) committed first crime when he murdered his brother Able because of jealousy. Due to the complex nature of the subject of crime, for example, regarding its causes and consequences, various academic disciplines such as criminology, sociology, geography, psychology and demography study it from their own perspective. A relatively new emerging field, however, is the economics of crime which tries to identify the socio-economic causes and consequences of criminal activities in a society.

Purpose Although there are several often-used case research methods for teaching purposes, these cannot be used to conduct scientific research into business ethics, perhaps owing to criticism levelled against it. The precise aim of this work is to expound and argue for its use within the framework of scientific hypothetical-deductive methodology. Design/methodology/approach The opportunities offered by this methodological approach, both from an inductive (Eisenhardt, 1989; Dyer and Wilkins, 1991) and a deductive perspective (Yin, 1993; Carson et al., 2000), have been wasted, creating a need for scientific contributions within this area; hence, this study. It was carried on a theoretical approach of the use of single case applied to corporate management based on religion and spirituality inclusion. Findings The results obtained indicate that the single-case research method makes it possible to put forward alternative hypotheses to the dominant hypothesis, making contributions to the theory. Concretely, the scientific legitimacy of its use is justified by what it has been called “possibilistic hypothesis” for what it is not necessary to collect a large data or make an empiric research. Practical implications In the field of business ethics, these hypotheses (possibilistics) make alternatives stand out that widen the moral responsibility of decision-makers. It implies an open mind for decision-makers and rigorous arguments using just a single case. Reinforce and make them easier based on moral imagination improvement. Originality/value The decision process is complex, but in this rich method, the single-case study could permit establishing rigorous and robust decisions easily. The case study is not used widely for management, but this perspective could enrich and increase its use.

Abstract Subject and purpose of work: The main goal of this work is to identify and systematize the geoeconomic threats that directly affect the development of small countries with economies in transition. The subject of the study is geoeconomic security (GES) of small countries with economies in transition. As an independent variable is GES, and the dependent GES of Georgia. Materials and methods: The research is of an empirical nature, and belongs to the category of qualitative research. The case-study method is used as a basic methodological approach. Results: The future of the country should be viewed in a geo-economic context. The country’s security should be developed through economic cooperation, which would not only ensure stability and economic growth would also benefit both in terms of political and in the economic security. Conclusions: Georgia needs to fully use its geo-economic potential (both internal and external), which is a reliable source of weakening geo-economic threats.

AbstractThe valuation of commercial properties for the guarantee of loans is extremely relevant for financial institutions, since it directly impacts the calculation of the loan to value ratio (LTV). However, despite the vast literature on the subject, the choice of methodological basis and the definition of the type of value to be employed are not pacified issues among researchers and practitioners. In this sense, the main objective of this paper is to present a methodological approach, as well as a suggestion of the type of value for the valuation of commercial properties bound collateral. The main methods and types of values related to the valuation of bound collateral commercial properties are presented below. Next, we propose a refinement of the income method, based on the concept of the value of the investment opportunity and under the principle of value at risk. Finally, we promote a case study with data from the Brazilian market to illustrate the application of the proposed approach.Based on the case study, it was evidenced that the valuation approach proposed in this paper, anchored in the potential of the income generation of the property, reduces the risk of exposure to banks’ credit.

This article presents the partial results of a broader research on the conceptions and evaluative actions of six physical education teachers in high school in the city of Medellín (Colombia). Specifically, this paper presents the findings on one of its objectives: to analyze the decisions that teachers make before starting a didactic unit (planning on assessment). The research assumed a qualitative design, with a methodological approach of multiple case study. The strategies used for this purpose were the semi-structured interview and documentary analysis. The main findings of the study show that planning on assessment is not a specific activity that requires an interest on the part of the teachers, because their previous experiences give them the security to approach future units without adaptations according to the group or the subject to work on.

The damping properties of a commercial polymer concrete are the subject of this application-driven study, which is aimed to investigate the material suitability as a filler of machine bed components to limit vibrations arising in machine tools and automatic machines working at high dynamics. Two main goals are targeted: ( i) quantitative evaluation of the elastodynamic effects due to the polymer concrete insertion into typical components of machine beds, in order to effectively assess its practical potential and ( ii) determination of reliable models of the material, needed to simulate the dynamic response of new design solutions of machines featuring structural components filled with the polymer concrete. The paper is mainly focused on the methodological approach of both the experimental campaign and the signal processing that were carried out. Based on the promising results achieved, the possible use of the polymer concrete as a viable solution to enhance the dynamic behavior of an automatic machine is finally investigated and discussed as a case study.

The article contains a study of the place of temporal quantities in the concept of updating the Civil Code of Ukraine in view of their legal nature, place and importance in the structure of the mechanism of legal regulation of civil relations. It is emphasized that time values play a decisive role in the legal regulation of public relations, which is the subject of civil law, as an integral part of the mechanism of their legal regulation, which provides temporal boundaries of certain civil rights and relevant civil obligations. It is noted that the proposed model of updating civil legislation partially reproduces the ways and means to introduce temporal elements into the structure of the mechanism of legal regulation of civil relations in view of the relevant legal institution. In fact, considerations have been proposed to improve the provisions of this concept both in terms of general provisions on terms and deadlines under the Civil Code of Ukraine, and within individual legal institutions. In particular, it is proposed to: standardize the nature of the statute of limitations in accordance with international experience and the essence of this category; to determine the peculiarities of the course of this type of term (beginning, end, grounds for interruption and suspension); taking into account the experience of European legislation to single out the statute of limitations as a kind of socio-legal category of a complex nature in the field of application, where to normalize its varieties and the ratio of the latter; to streamline the normative basis of the acquisitive prescription, where, taking into account the experience of judicial practice and the legislation of other countries, to ensure the full realization of the purpose of its introduction into the domestic legal field. With regard to the special provisions of civil law in terms of temporal values, there are proposals that should ensure the implementation of the above purpose of time, as a socio-legal category that will be the subject of further research. In particular, attention is paid to the prospect of improving the place of time values in the mechanism of legal regulation of personal non-property rights of individuals and legal entities, hereditary relations, where these legal categories should ensure the stability of civil turnover and create an optimal model of legal protection of rights and legitimate interests of participants.

The article presents a methodological approach to studying iterative processes in the school course of geometry, by the example of constructing a Koch snowflake fractal curve and calculating a few characteristics of it. The interactive creative environment 1C:MathKit is chosen to visualize the method discussed. By performing repetitive constructions and algebraic calculations using ICT tools, students acquire a steady skill of work with geometric objects of various levels of complexity, comprehend the possibilities of mathematical interpretation of iterative processes in practice, and learn how to understand the dialectical unity between finite and infinite parameters of flat geometric figures. When students are getting familiar with such contradictory concepts and categories, that replenishes their experience of worldview comprehension of the subject areas they study through the concept of “big ideas”. The latter allows them to take a fresh look at the processes in the world around. The article is a matter of interest to schoolteachers of computer science and mathematics, as well as university scholars who teach the course “Concepts of modern natural sciences”.
