This paper aims to bring more clarity into the structure of spiritual intelligence. This construct integrates the meanings of both spirituality and intelligence. The definitions of intelligence have strong emphasis on capacities and higher level abilities (such as abstract reasoning, problem solving and decision making). Many definitions of spirituality represent it as a holistic, multidimensional human phenomenon that transcends the physical, social, and psychological being. Spirituality, as seen from the perspective of intelligence, has to be understood as distinct from religiousness. Various authors provide different definitions of spiritual intelligence. The analysis of literature sources has shown that the concept of spirituality is very broad, but it has to be narrowed down when integrated with the concept of intelligence into the construct of spiritual intelligence because the spirituality becomes a feature of the intelligence as an ability. It means that spirituality should both retain its own essence and to meet the criteria of intelligence. Therefore, the following structure of spiritual intelligence, offered by D. B. King (2008) emerges as the most appropriate: critical existential thinking, personal meaning production, transcendental awareness, and conscious state expansion.

The major aim of the study was to find out spiritual intelligence among graduate students. A total of 60 students; 30 males and 30 female students were selected using non probability purposive sampling technique. The age range of all the subjects was between 19-24 years. All the subjects were assessed on the Spiritual Intelligence Self Report Inventory (SISRI- 24) to analyze the spiritual intelligence of both the groups of students. Descriptive analysis of the data was done to obtain Mean and Standard Deviation. Independent sample t-test was used to find out the significant difference between the performance of boys and girls on different spiritual dimension. The findings of the study revealed that there is no significant difference between male and female students on Conscious State Expansion, Critical Existential Thinking, Personal Meaning Production and Transcendental Awareness of Spiritual Intelligence Self Report Inventory (SISRI-24). The study concluded that there is no gender difference on spiritual intelligence.

Spiritual intelligence is our capacity for developing meaning, vision and value and allows us to dream and to strive. Narcissism is characterized by indulgence in excessive self-love, selfishness, feelings of superiority, disregard for others, lack of empathy, illusions of grandiosity, and the use of people for one’s self gain. Body image relates to a person’s perceptions, feelings and thoughts about his or her body. A 3x2 factorial design was employed to observe the main and interaction effects of BMI (low, normal and high) and gender on spiritual intelligence, narcissism and body image in college students. Further, a correlational design was used to determine the predictors of the dimensions of body image from spiritual intelligence and narcissism. A non probability purposive sampling technique was used to gather data from 360 college students (180 boys and 180 girls) of low, normal and high BMI. There was a significant influence of BMI on fatness evaluation and negative effect. Significant gender differences were seen in some of the dimensions of all the three variables. Also, interaction effect between BMI and gender were reported in certain cases. Results also showed that spiritual intelligence, critical existential thinking, personal meaning production, transcendental awareness, conscious state expansion and narcissism were found to be significant predictors of various criterion variables. Spiritual intelligence can be explored in more than one population in order to gain a better understanding of its influence over body image. Based on the results of the current research study, interventions could be designed which aim at enhancing the understanding of spirituality and spiritual intelligence. This would, in turn, contribute to the fostering of a desirable body image in college students.

Self-identity is an important life skill of adolescents. Researchers have observed that the skill of reflecting on the experiences of life, which is related to one’s spiritual intelligence, is helpful in the development of positive self-identity. Hence, the present research was carried out to understand the development of spiritual intelligence and self-identity among adolescent boys and girls and thereby examine the mediating role of spiritual intelligence in the development of self-identity. Participants in the study were 360 college students in equal numbers from boys and girls belonging to early, middle, and late adolescent period. Four-core abilities of spiritual intelligence namely; critical existential thinking, personal meaning production, transcendental awareness, and conscious state expansion were measured. Like-wise, personal, relational, social, and collective self-identities were measured. The results showed that girls are better than boys in the development of both spiritual intelligence and positive self-identity. Further, spiritual intelligence significantly and positively predicted each of the domains of self-identity.

Background: Nurses, on a daily basis, face ethical dilemmas that arise from situations involving conflicting values or beliefs. Overall, ethical decision making of nurses seems to be a challenging aspect of their duties. This study has examined the relationship between spiritual intelligence and ethical decision making in nurses working in hospitals in Iran. Proportional stratified sampling was used in this study. Data were collected from 376 nurses who completed the Spiritual Intelligence Self-Report Inventory (SISRI) and Nursing Dilemma Test. Statistical analyses were done using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlations. Findings: The mean spiritual intelligence score was 49.5 ± 14.6, and mean ± SD of the Nursing Principled Thinking was 52.8 ± 12.1 and Practical Consideration was 28.16 ± 7.6. The mean score in the postconventional level was higher than the two other levels. Significant negative correlations exist between the preconventional component of the Nursing Dilemma Test and Personal Meaning Production and the Critical Existential Thinking components of the SISRI ( p < .05). There were significant positive correlations between the postconventional (Nursing Principled) and Critical Existential Thinking, Personal Meaning Production, and total score of the SISRI. Conclusion: Hence, we have concluded that spiritual intelligence plays a positive role in the ethical decision making of nurses.

Spirituality and its practices are the real gems of value additions in the human life, they helps in building a strong foundation and getting a greater clarity. Spirituality is not a limited concept but expansive like a vast blue ocean. Spirituality, being currently becoming an attracting trend when considered with organizations, many of the organizations prefer in deploying spiritual functions and practices aiming for a good level of perspicacity and growth in their future forecasts and operations for the enablement of delivering a good level of productivity. This study aims at examining the connectivity existence or non-existence between some organizational productivity factors that directly or indirectly contributes to productivity levels and the factors of spiritual intelligence. For the study a controlled experiment was conducted, the 4 factors of spiritual intelligence such as Critical Existential Thinking, Personal Meaning Production, Transcendental awareness, Conscious State of Expansion was considered and measured by taking an organization after that 4 factors that contributes directly or indirectly to productivity function such as Ability to address day to day Variations ,Adherence in task accomplishment at extreme workload scenarios with equanimity, Consistency level in Benchmark achievement or meeting the provided/ defined target levels, ability in performance beyond the expected level in logical Operations were consulted and measured. After this a pairing was made with a deep look of these factors and each pair consisted of different predictors and a response variables, 4 regression models were developed in Minitab with these in order to check whether there was any connectivity/relationship existence between any one of the factors between the grouped four pairs each (i.e. to check at least 1 predictor - response relationship existence was there or not in all 4 regression models developed). The result signalled the existence of relationship between at least 3 factors to at most 5 factors in all the model, marking a green signal of relationship existences.

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether spiritual intelligence and intrinsic motivation can act as antecedents to compassion fatigue. This study will prove useful to pastors who wish to lower the levels of burnout and secondary traumatic stress that stem from their work in ministry. The study reviews a sample of 273 South African pastors across four denominations and demonstrates partial support for relationships between spiritual intelligence and intrinsic motivation with not only compassion fatigue, but also its factors of burnout and secondary traumatic stress. The two factors of compassion fatigue do, however, both relate positively to critical existential thinking and negatively with personal meaning production, therefore suggesting that different elements of spiritual intelligence play varying roles in reducing or aggravating compassion fatigue. Burnout can be reduced through increased intrinsic motivation to work in the ministry, and so this study provides recommendations to assist pastors in overcoming compassion fatigue.
