The article analyses the question, how intensive consulting for schools can affect students’ learning achievements by mitigating the impact of social, economic and cultural context. Based on the case study methodological approach, the case of the project “Initiative for municipalities”, implemented in 2016–2018 in five schools of Kupiškis district municipality, was analysed. After conducting the analysis of the theoretical literature and documentary sources, and interviews, the following conclusions were made:Due to its duration and intensity, it was long-term consulting; mixed – expert and procedural – consulting approaches were used depending on the problems raised in the schools, the context, readiness of the teachers for change, and the nature of changes proposed by the consultant. It is recognized that the characteristics of the expert consulting dominated.The intensive long-term consulting, implemented in schools resulted in improvement of students’ achievements due to intentionally selected consulting targets – guiding of schools and teachers towards change in the school culture, orientation towards strengthening teaching/ learning assistance, and the application of teaching/learning strategies favourable to students. The consultant’s attempt to implement the teaching methodology based on post-cognitive principles in schools is discussed. The issues discussed remain open for further research.

While countries are facing different stages in their COVID-19 infection rates, worldwide there are millions of students affected by universities’ facilities closures due to the pandemic. Some institutions have enforced strategies to transfer some courses to a virtual modality, but many Dental Schools have been challenged to deal with a situation which requires emergency measures to continue the academic course in the middle of lock-downs and social distancing measures. Despite the fact that the number of online academic programs available, especially graduate programs, has increased in diverse modalities, this pandemic forced e-learning processes to develop abruptly. The likelihood of using e-learning strategies in dentistry was substantiated in the scientific literature and an overview of these opportunities is presented. Additionally, the experience of the University of Costa Rica Faculty of Dentistry is presented, as it was evident that some of the key elements in a e-learning environment needed a quick enhancement and initiation of some processes was required. First, it was necessary to categorize the academic courses depending on their virtualization's possibility (curricula analysis and classification), to better understand the extent of the impact and the work needed to contain, as far as the possibilities allowed, negative consequences on students learning process. Second, teachers needed further training in the application of virtual strategies which they hadn’t used before. do Third, an evaluation of the students’ conditions and needs was conducted in a form of a survey. Finally, teachers and students activated the available virtual platforms. For many Dental Schools, this virtualization process is an ongoing progress although it was abruptly imposed, but this moment indeed represents an enormous opportunity to move forward and get immerse in the virtualization environment as a teaching/learning experience.

Purpose This paper aims to contribute to the literature on place marketing by focusing on the concept of strategic needs, i.e. the set of strategic priorities that a place could achieve in a medium- to long-term horizon to improve its development. Design/methodology/approach The research examines the strategic needs of four local territorial systems (LTSs), i.e. clusters of municipalities that share social, economic and spatial similarities, located in a southern Italian province, through an analysis of their competitive positioning over three temporal instants. Findings For each LTS, the analysis identified a number of development goals that local policymakers could pursue and the strategies most suitable to achieve the said goals. Originality/value This paper proposes a new methodological approach to set the development goals of local areas based on the simultaneous assessment of their attractiveness and competitive capacity.

In the field of education, teachers must be technologically abreast especially in time of the COVID-19 Pandemic addressing the demand of the New Normal. To build confidence and capacity in digital teaching-learning, teachers must consider developing their skills in using digital technologies in education and they must also embed the use of digital devices in the teaching-learning practice. In this premise, this research article explains the digital inequality that the teachers are experiencing and its effect on their teaching profession and on establishing among themselves the digital trust and intuition. This study also aimed to answer, “What are the digital equalities do teachers encounter?” Th teachers’ decision for digital trust and intuition is affected by the digital inequalities they are experiencing. This study draws insights from a one-page survey questionnaire to 20 selected teachers of St. Aloysius Academy of Dasmariñas representing the faculty from the 3 departments such as preschool, grade school and high school. The results of this study indicate that teachers of St. Aloysius Academy of Dasmariñas are digitally inclined as manifested by their subscriptions to various digital devices and services. The impact of the digital technology to them in terms of social, economic, political and cultural affects their decision in digital trust and intuition.  Overcoming issues on digital inequality among teachers will lead to digital trust and intuition.  The school, from where the teachers are employed must address the digital inequality by ensuring that all teachers have equal chances in accessing the technology-based teaching devices and by providing them capacity building trainings which are imperative for the demand of the new normal. Teachers must embrace the digital technology in the community and in their workplace and imbibe the digital trust and intuition in education.

This paper aims to present scenarios to be applied in higher education to the theme of production planning and control, addressing factors of the production system and indicators arising from this process and the application of virtual reality to support the process. The applied method combines the development of six scenarios for virtual reality application and the discussion about the impacts in indicators from the production planning and control, for example, inventory in the process, manufacturing lead-time, use of equipment, and punctual delivery attendance. Findings revealed that the teaching-learning process of production planning and control, when applied through scenarios, generates opportunities for students to learn the impact in the indicators. The virtual reality in this environment supports creating differentiated teaching-learning environments to generate the most significant knowledge for students which positively impacts the future in the world of work. In addition, it allows people involved in the teaching-learning processes of production engineering to apply the concepts presented in the sequencing process, lean about the impacts of decisions on production sequencing indicators and appreciate the support of virtual reality to generate an environment more cognitive for students.

This present study was designed to investigate the impact of using direct language learning strategies on long term and short term (LT and ST for short) of vocabulary retention of non-specialist EFL learners in Iraq. A total of 60 Iraqi male non-specialist EFL learner’s college between the ages of 19 and 21participated in the study. The data were collected using a questionnaire (five-point rating) from Oxford’s (1990) the Strategy Inventory for the Language Learning (SILL for short / version7). To identify the strategies used, the information gathered was analyzed using descriptive statistics of means, frequency and standard deviation. In direct language learning strategies (DLLS for short) study, the (t-test) has been used to examine the learners ' performance of vocabulary retention in LT and ST. On the other hand, One-way between groups (ANOVA) with post-hoc comparison test was used to investigate the differences between LT and ST of the vocabulary retention by using the subcategories of direct language learning strategies. The outcomes showed that the learners’ strategy uses ST more out weights than LT of vocabulary retention. According to the outcomes, the most used (in both long term and short term) was (memory) strategies and followed by (compensation and cognitive) strategies. In the light of the results obtained, a number of pedagogical implications and suggestions were presented.

The urban renewal approach is generally carried out with both physical and economic appoach. A community-based development/urban renewal approach is used for long-term results, therefore it is rarely done. Community based urban renewal study is very important because the impact is more sustainable. Urban renewal of red-light district Putat Jaya Surabaya is carried out to resolve the pressure and social economic change, which is the closing of Dolly and Jarak (Putat Jaya). The Government of Surabaya has been using a community based approach in conducting the renewal, but in doing so the Government of Surabaya has no reference, especially the know-how mechanism of a community based development. This study aims to evaluate and formulate a community-based urban renewal mechanism, so that it can be a reference in the implementation of urban renewal. The results showed that the efforts made by the Surabaya of Government had not fully met the principles of community-based urban renewal where the community had a central role in the preparation and implementation of plans and monitoring of the results of urban renewal in a participatory manner.

This study reports the use of data mining tools in order to examine the influence of the methodology used in chemistry lab classes, on the weight attributed by the students to the lab work on learning and own motivation. The answer frequency analysis was unable to discriminate the opinions expressed by the respondents according to the type of the teaching methodology used in the lab classes. Conversely, the data mining approach usingk-means clustering models, allowed a deeper analysis of the results,i.e., enabled one to identify the methodology to teach chemistry that, in students' opinion, is important for learning chemistry and increasing their motivation. The sample comprised 3447 students of Portuguese Secondary Schools (1736 in the 10th grade; 1711 in the 11th grade). Thek-means Clustering Method was used, withkvalues ranging between 2 and 4. The main strengths of this study are the methodological approach for data analysis and the fact that the sample was formed by students with different school careers that enables the use of the individual as the unit of analysis.

Few studies have examined the impact of housing discrimination on health. This study explores potential pathways linking housing discrimination and health using concept mapping, a mixed-method approach. Participants included employees from twenty Fair Housing Organizations nationwide who participated in two online sessions, brainstorming, and structuring. Responses were generated representing biological, social, economic, and physical connections between housing discrimination and health. Using hierarchical cluster analysis, five clusters were identified: (1) Access and barriers; (2) Opportunities for growth; (3) Neighborhood and communities; (4) Physical effects of housing discrimination; and (5) Mental health. Clusters 1 (4.09) and 2 (4.08) were rated as most important for health, while clusters 2 (3.93) and 3 (3.90) were rated as most frequently occurring. These findings add to the limited evidence connecting housing discrimination to health and highlight the need for studies focusing on the long-term health effects of housing discrimination on individuals and neighborhoods.

This study presents an empirical research on the identification and observation of the students’ manifestations under various circumstances of stress, among which: time pressure, unexpected exam, unknown examiner, overstrain, language. The research was conducted at the National Pedagogical College “Ştefan cel Mare” from Bacău and consisted in assisting and observing 26 lessons of Mathematics and 26  lessons of Information and Communication Technologies, involving a group of 126 middle-school students and 24 teachers of various specializations. The tests and questionnaires applied have shown the relevance of becoming aware of the impact of stress, as well as of finding ways to minimize its harmful secondary effects, as many diseases are highly associated with wrong responses, adaptation to stress, external factors, sanctions, failure of the adjustment process, which lead to the onset of illness or unhappiness. Regarding these problems, we are looking for solutions in the form of best teaching-learning strategies, in order to increase enthusiasm for school activities, decrease the number of school absences, control alcohol, coffee or drugs consumption. The 20 students in the third year from the Faculty of Mathematics, “Vasile Alecsandri” University of Bacău, have conducted a research during their pedagogical practice included in their initial teacher training. The research has focused on emotional intelligence and implied direct observation of the students’ behaviour during an unannounced test at Mathematics, with the subsequent application of a questionnaire.
