ABSTRACT Objectives: understand the experience of the elderly with falls followed by femoral fracture and elaborate theoretical model of this process of lived experience. Method: qualitative research with theoretical saturation through analysis of the ninth nondirected interview of elderly who underwent such experience. Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed according to Grounded Theory. Results: three categories emerged (sub-processes): evaluating signs and symptoms of fracture after the fall; feeling sad and insecure with the new condition; and finding oneself susceptible to fractures. From realignment of these categories (sub-processes) we could abstract the central category (process), recognizing oneself as vulnerable to falls in the concreteness of the fracture. Conclusion: the theoretical model considering the Symbolic Interactionism signals the implementation of continued program for fall prevention, with teaching strategies that encourage the elderly to reflect on the concreteness of contexts in which there is risk of occurring injury to their health.

A coleta e análise ocorreram simultaneamente. Construction of a theoretical model on taking care of tuberculosis in the perspective of Grounded TheoryAbstract: Grounded theory enables the construction of a substantive theory, abstracting data from cases to concepts, converting them into a set of statements that elucidate events. This article aims to describe the elaboration of a theoretical model about the process of care of the person with tuberculosis, based on the methodological assumptions of Grounded Theory, according to Anselm Strauss and Juliet Corbin. The number of participants was given by sampling and theoretical saturation, giving rise to four sample groups, through questioning and comparative analysis of the data. Collection and analysis occurred simultaneously. In the coding, we had: open coding; axial encoding, regrouping concepts around the common subject, the categories and subcategories originated; and with the refinement and integration of the categories, we came to the selective codification, and construction of the theoretical model. The theoretical model elaborated constitutes a representation of the phenomenon "taking care of the person with tuberculosis in basic health care". In this model, the categories referring to the causal conditions, the interveners, the contexts, the actions / interactions and the consequences of this phenomenon. Keywords: Grounded Theory; Qualitative Research; Models, Nursing; Tuberculosis.

More than 95 percent of those who lost their lives as a result of the spread of the Covid-19 virus to the world since the beginning of 2020 are over the age of 60 (WHO, 2020). The main purpose of this article is to reveal the vital difficulties of the 65-75 age group in Turkey, who were quarantined due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as a result of deprivation of their former normal lives and how they overcame them. The theoretical starting point of this study is the relational sociologist H. White and his “uncertainty” classification. In the study, Grounded Theory Methodology was chosen as one of the qualitative research approaches and open, axial and selective codings were made as a requirement of this. In this context, interviews were made with 12 individuals from the 65-75 age group and the data were presented in figures. As a result of open, axial and selective coding, the core concept of the study was determined as "solidarity". In accordance with the grounded theory, at the end of the study, the "solidarity process" was narrated using the "river" metaphor.

This study aimed to understand the meaning of the nursing team's communication with newborns and families during care delivered in a neonatal unit and also to develop a theoretical model. Symbolic Interactionism and Hargie's model were used as theoretical and Grounded theory as the methodological reference framework. The study was carried out at the nursery of a hospital in São Paulo, SP, Brazil. The study sample was composed of three nurses and four nursing auxiliaries. The theoretical model Being mediated by the strength of motivation was based on findings and revealed the role the nursing professionals' motivation played during interactions with newborns and families. The conclusion is that more humanized interactions with newborns and families result from the nursing professionals' motivation.

ABSTRACT Objective: To understand the reasons that lead Brazilian and Spanish seniors to enroll in a university for the elderly. Method: A qualitative study that used Symbolic Interactionism as a theoretical reference and the Grounded Theory as a methodological reference. We interviewed 44 seniors enrolled in universities for the elderly from two countries (Brazil and Spain) between October 2014 and May 2016. Results: The motivations were related to the necessity of occupying the free time, even for improving health; to the opportunity of access to university learning bypassing formal education criteria; to the expansion of social relations, sought through the creation of new friendships, the desire to know other people’s life experiences, and the exchange of knowledge. Final considerations: Older people have sought in universities for the elderly a pleasurable way of learning and occupying the free time.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to achieve the degree of saturation in study that applied the grounded theory. Methods: qualitative research, carried out in four Family Health Units, between June 2018 and May 2019. The data from the interviews with 30 health professionals and non-participant observation were coded in the stages: open, axial and integration. Results: the degree of saturation was achieved by two conceptual models - theoretical saturation and inductive thematic. Theoretical saturation was considered: the development of conceptual codes and observation, in the collection and analysis of data, when they generated new categories/subcategories or only indicated increasing instances. For thematic inductive saturation, the use of new codes based on each interview stood out. Final Considerations: the visual layout for the number of codes, the theoretical scope of the concepts and the delimitation of the sample groups guided the identification of the degree of saturation for the development of the conceptual body that supported the substantive theory.

Socio-philosophical roots and evolution of Grounded TheoryAbstract: The Grounded Theory (GT) is a methodology that, from the experiences lived by social actors, and through processes of codification and constant comparison, allows the development of theory. This theoretical essay, of a descriptive-reflexive nature, elaborated during the investigation about the Promotion and Preservation of Dignity in the context of Care in Nursing Homes, carried out in the context of the PhD in Nursing of the University of Lisbon, has the purpose of presenting the narrative and methodological revision on the origins and evolution of the GT, from the fundamental influence of symbolic interactionism, pragmatism and the Chicago School emphasizing the diacritical moment in the trajectory of its original authors, Barney Glaser and Anselm Strauss, based on distinct ideas about the process of data collection and analysis and on the researcher's posture before the context and the research, that will mark the evolution of the methodology to date. Keywords: Qualitative research; Grounded Theory; Symbolic Interactionism.

This study develops a theoretical model concerning the experience of families of children with Down syndrome in preschool and school age. The frameworks used were Symbolic Interactionism and Grounded Theory. Semi-structured interviews were used as the instrument of investigation and ten families participated in the study. The Theoretical Model "Seeking the child's independence and autonomy through constant stimulation" was identified, which shows the family's efforts to enable the child to develop the best s/he can through stimulation in order to become less dependent in the future. This model can be used to facilitate interaction with the family and can be further expanded. Nurses should use spaces dedicated to care delivery to establish bonds with the family, and seek other spaces families frequent, to better meet their needs, since there are significant gaps in care and research addressing this population. Instead, they should be welcomed and seen as a partner in care delivery.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the use of Grounded Theory as a methodological framework in scientific articles published in Brazilian Nursing journals with Qualis Capes A1 and A2. Method: descriptive, documentary study with a quantitative approach. Five Brazilian nursing journals with Qualis A1 and A2 in the 2016 assessment were used as sources. Data were collected on the website of each journal through the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), by consulting the numbers published in the 2013-2016 quadrennium. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: 49 articles were selected, most of them published by the Texto & Contexto Enfermagem journal (34.6%). Regarding the methodological aspect, the use of the Straussian perspective predominated (79,6). Regarding the methodological characteristics, most articles used theoretical sampling (63.3%), theoretical saturation (53.1%), comparative analysis (69.4%), and presented the development of a theoretical model or central category in the results (75.6%). However, only seven (14.3%) studies specified the use of memos, 22 (44.9%) mentioned the use of diagrams and 16 (32.7%) described the theory validation step. Conclusion: the need for consensus among Brazilian nursing researchers on the methodological characteristics to be described in studies using the Grounded Theory is highlighted.

ABSTRACT Objective: To present the validation of a theoretical model through conversation circles in a qualitative research guided by the Grounded Theory. Method: Study carried out from a thesis developed in a reference hospital in the south region of Brazil. Two conversation circles happened, with participation of representatives of the “Training Prism”, in the months of October and November, 2016. Results: The conversation circle enabled an in depth dialogic approach of the subject of research, broadening the vision on the phenomenon and on the research. The circle also mobilized thinking as it highlighted the subjectivity of individuals, expanding the group’s ability of understanding and assisting in the validation process of a theoretical model. Conclusion: The conversation circle emerges as a powerful strategy for the development of qualitative research in nursing, more specifically in the validation step of the Grounded Theory.

Abstract Objective: To know the caregiver's perception about the work/care with the institutionalized child. Methods: Qualitative research that used the Theory of Attachment and Symbolic Interactionism as theoretical references and the Grounded Theory as a methodological reference. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with 15 caregivers of a child sheltering institution, in the year 2015. The analysis was performed from the open coding and categorization. Results: Care work aims to meet the needs of institutionalized children, focusing on food, hygiene and education. In addition, it is little recognized, which generates a feeling of devaluation in caregivers. Conclusions: Continued qualification and support to the caregivers is indispensable for elaborating more effective and integral work/care strategies.
