Abstract Interventions to reduce stigma related to people who use drugs can improve their quality of life and adherence to treatment. This review aimed to identify and analyze studies on interventions to reduce the stigma related to people who use drugs. Searches were performed in the following databases, without period delimitation: PubmMed, APA PsycNET, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, and VHL. Considering secondary referencing, we identified a total of 5,488 records. This review covered 28 articles and was based on PRISMA. Although target audiences comprising students and health professionals were predominant, as well as the use of quantitative methods, sample size and interventions varied among studies. The selected studies present considerable methodological limitations. We concluded that no evidence confirms the effectiveness of the proposed interventions and which of them should continue to be applied for this specific aim. It is essential to invest in approaches other than those traditionally adopted.

Abstract: Migraine is a disease with serious impacts on quality of life. We conducted a phenomenological qualitative inquiry in order to understand how 10 female patients with migraine dealt with their disease and its treatment, at a headache unit of a reference hospital. Through a phenomenological analysis, we highlighted seven themes that connected participants’ experiences to those reported in the previous literature. We noticed that participants recurrently described their migraine experiences through metaphors. The communicative metaphors indicated an overarching theme of constant vigilance for the unpredictable. Participants felt lack of empathy from others during headache episodes, and showed ambivalence about several aspects of treatment. Our interpretation is that addressing to how patients communicate about their illness might help health professionals to establish stronger therapeutic alliances based on empathy and respect. Professionals’ communication skills are the primordial resource to facilitate adherence to treatment and its success.

Aim: The systematic review assessed the effect of mindfulness-based interventions on the quality of life among women with breast cancer. Methods: PubMed, Cochrane library, EMBASE, Web of Science and CINAHL databases were searched for studies published. Our review assessed the effect of mindfulness-based interventions (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction [MBSR] intervention and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy [MBCT]) on quality of life for women with breast cancer. Two authors independently assessed the quality of all included studies using the Downs and Black Quality Index. Results: The search finally identified 15 studies. The MBSR intervention showed a significant effect between groups. The MBCT intervention also showed good effect on quality of life. Adverse events were inadequately reported. Conclusion: The MBSR intervention on quality of life among women with breast cancer was effective and safe. The effect of MBCT intervention on quality of life still needs more research.

Patients under dialysis are known to be more vulnerable to frailty, a dynamic geriatric syndrome defined as a state of vulnerability to stressors, due to numerous metabolic changes. With rise of life expectancy globally, it is important to understand the complexity of the pathophysiology of frailty and identify possible markers that can help with the prognosis and diagnosis of frailty. The aim of this systematic review is to give an overview of the knowledge regarding clinical and biochemical markers associated with pre-frailty and frailty in dialysis and pre-dialysis patients. In November 2020, PubMed, Embase and Web of Science were searched. Studies regarding biomarkers associated with (pre-)frailty in (pre-)dialysis patients were included. This systematic review identified clinical and biochemical markers in pre-frail and frail patients under dialysis or pre-dialysis published in the literature. This study shows that more investigation is necessary to identify markers that can differentiate these processes to be used as a diagnostic and prognostic tool in routine care and management of geriatric needs. Interventions that can improve health outcomes in pre-frail and frail older adults under dialysis or pre-dialysis are essential to improve not only the individual’s quality of life but also to reduce the burden to the health systems.

Abstract. This systematic review aimed to map the published articles on the quality of life of teachers working in higher education courses. Original articles were searched from the following electronic databases: Lilacs; Science web; Proquest; Scielo; and Science Direct, without delimitation of temporal scope. After the selection of the studies, the analysis was performed through categories and absolute frequency (QSR NVIVO).
