A criação de ovinos tem se desenvolvido nas últimas décadas, entretanto ainda são escassas informações sobre a composição e potencial patogênico da microbiota cérvico-vaginal de ovelhas. O presente estudo teve como objetivo conhecer os microrganismos constituintes da microbiota cérvico-vaginal de ovelhas, bem como sua susceptibilidade aos antimicrobianos. Foram realizadas coletas em 60 animais sadios, pertencentes a rebanhos de Petrolina e região. Foi realizado o isolamento bacteriano em ágar sangue e ágar MacConkey, sendo os microrganismos identificados de acordo com características morfológicas, tintoriais e bioquímicas. As amostras foram submetidas ao teste de difusão em disco para determinar o perfil de sensibilidade aos antimicrobianos: sulfametazina, enrofloxacina, doxiciclina, tetraciclina, penicilina, amoxicilina, cefalotina e lincomicina. Foram obtidos 94 isolados, sendo constatada uma maior frequência de Staphylococcus spp. (32,97%), Escherichia coli e Micrococcus spp., sendo observado ainda, isolados de Acinetobacter spp., Shigella spp., Enterobacter spp., Klebsiella spp. e Streptococcus spp. Os isolados apresentaram alta sensibilidade aos antimicrobianos testados sendo observado o menor percentual de sensibilidade para lincomicina. A presença de microrganismos oportunistas de potencial patogênico, na microbiota, como Staphylococcus spp e Escherichia coli, remete a uma análise criteriosa em relação ao diagnóstico de infecções genitais. Os isolados bacterianos obtidos neste estudo são sensíveis à maioria dos grupos de drogas antimicrobianas testadas, demonstrando o potencial de utilização desses princípios ativos, além da disponibilidade de escolha, visto a ausência de multirresistência.

Food borne diseases are an increasingly recognized problem involving a wide spectrum of illnesses caused by bacterial contamination of food.Microorganism poses potential human health problems and is mainly transmitted through consumption of contaminated foods .Bangladesh is one of the densely populated country where majority of the people consume cheap foods prepared in unlicensed food selling points. The objective of the present study was to investigate the microbiological quality of different street food (Amra, Fusca, Chanachur and Guava) sold by various street vendor at Dinajpur, Bangladesh. A total of 20 samples were collected randomly from street vendors and tested for the presence of bacteria following standard microbiological method used for isolation, enumaration and identification of bacreria. Among the samples all had bacterial contamination. The total viable count (TVC) in diferrent street food samples was ranged from 8.0 × 105 CFU/g to 6.7x107 CFU/g. Among samples Escherichia coli 7(35%), Staphylococcus spp. 6(30%), Klebsiella spp. 5(25%), Salmonella spp. 1(5%) and Shigella spp. 1 (5%) were isolated. Escherichia coli were found highest 3(50%) Amra samples and 2(40%) Guava samples, then another organisms Staphylococcus spp. was found highest 2(50%) Chanachur and 2(40%) Fusca samples and then Klebsiella spp. was found highest 2(40%) Fusca samples. Antibiotic sensitivity test showed that Shigella spp., Staphylococcus spp., Klebsiella spp., Salmonella spp. and Escherichia coli were sensitive to Ciprofloxacin and Salmonella spp. were resistance to Gentamycin. All isolates found resistant to Cefixime, Cefalexin, Erythromycin, Fusidic acid, Cefuroxime and Aztreonam. All of the sample harbor multidrug resistant food borne bacteria which might cause public health hazards if these antibiotic resistance transfer to human.Asian J. Med. Biol. Res. Introducción: Los dispositivos médicos como el fonendoscopio, son manipulados constantemente en el entorno del paciente. El auge que han tenido los teléfonos celulares en la actualidad, los ha convertido en un objeto de uso común inclusive para el personal de atención en salud Objetivos: Identificar los microorganismos y su patrón de sensibilidad a antibióticos aislados de celulares y fonendoscopios de estudiantes de medicina de pregrado y postgrado. Metodología: Se tomaron por hisopado 77 muestras entre celulares y fonendoscopios (43/34) y se cultivaron en agar sangre a 37°C por 24-36 horas, se realizaron pruebas específicas para determinar el microorganismo y el patrón de sensibilidad. Resultados: De 43 muestras en celulares se aislaron 92 microorganismos principalmente  Staphylococcus coagulasa negativo (SCN) (51%), Staphylococcus aureus meticilino sensible (SAMS) (14%), Escherichia coli (5%), Klebsiella spp (3%), Acinetobacter spp (2%), Pseudomonas spp (2%), Staphylococcus aureus meticilino resistente (SAMR) (2%). De 34 muestras de fonendosocopios se hallaron 59 microorganismos distribuidos así: SCN (61%), SAMS (15%), SAMR (5%), Pseudomonas spp (3%), Klebsiella spp (3%), E. coli (3%), Acinetobacter spp (2%). El 25% y 13% de los Staphylococcus aureus en fonendos y celulares fueron SAMR, en cuanto a los bacilos Gram negativos en fonendoscopios, la mayoría mostró sensibilidad a los antibióticos empleados a excepción de algunas cepas de Klebsiella spp, Acinetobacter spp y Escherichia coli. En celulares el patrón de sensibilidad fue más heterogéneo, destacando que el 50% de las cepas de Pseudomonas spp fueron resistentes a la Ceftriaxona y el 100% de las cepas de Acinetobacter spp a los β-lactámicos probados. Conclusiones: La colonización de dispositivos médicos y electrónicos por microorganismos patógenos resistentes a diferentes familias de antimicrobianos puede presentar un riesgo de transmisión a pacientes hospitalarios y ambulatorios al exponerlos al contacto con estos.

Objetivos: Determinar el grado de contaminación bacteriana con bacterias patógenas de los estetoscopios del personal médico en un hospital general de Lima, Perú. Material y métodos: Estudio de tipo observacional, descriptivo y transversal, realizado en el Hospital Nacional Arzobispo Loayza, entre los meses de enero y juniodel 2013. Se estudiaron 124 muestras de estetoscopios del personal médico en las siguientes áreas: UCI 20; neonatología 13; quemados 3; medicina 52; emergencia 36. Se recolectaron las muestras con hisopos humedecidos, en condiciones estériles (En presencia de un mechero de vidrio para alcohol) y luego fueron introducidos en tuboscon preparado de caldo BHI (Infusión cerebro corazón) para ser incubados por 24 horas a 37°C; se cultivó en Agar sangre, Agar MacConkey, Agar manitol y Agar cetrimidepara su posterior determinación de bacterias patógenas por procedimientos bioquímicos ,luego se identificó la susceptibilidad bacteriana con la técnica de Kirby- Bauer. Resultados: De los 124 estetoscopios estudiados; 114 (91,9%) estuvieron contaminados; se aislaron 123 cepasbacterianas: Staphylococcus spp coagulasa negativa 106(86,1%), Staphylococcus aureus 5(4,0%), Enterobacter aerogenes 4 (3,2%), Acinetobacter spp 2(1,6%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa 4(3,2%), Klebsiella Pneumoniae 1(0,8%) y Escherichia coli 1(0,8%). Conclusiones: El aislamiento de bacterias patógenas sugiere que el estetoscopio debe ser considerado como un vector de la infección nosocomial.

Summary. Purpose of the reserche. To study changes in microflora and sensitivity of isolated strains to antibiotics using bacteriological research methods for intra-abdominal infections and peritonitis to determine their resistance when planning antibiotic therapy. Results and discussion. The paper presents data from a retrospective analysis of the results of studies of microflora and its resistance in intra-abdominal infections (IAI) and peritonitis for 2 periods: I period — from january 2007 to december 2008, II period — from january 2018 to december 2019. The difference between period II and I was in the increase in the number of individual pathogenic strains of microorganisms. Thus, the number of Klebsiella spp. increased from 13.8 % to 23.8 %, which in absolute number of their total number amounted to a 73.5 %, ranking second in the overall structure among pathogens sown in IAI and peritonitis. The number of strains of Staphylococcus spp., Enterobacter spp., Acinetobacter spp. has also increased by 2.4–5.8 % respectively. Among the strains Klebsiella spp., E. coli and Staphylococcus spp. the number of poly- and multi-polyresistant forms has increased. Thus, the number of such forms among Klebsiella spp. increased from 19.2 to 44.5 %, Staphylococcus spp. — from 43.8 to 67.1 % and E. coli from 18.2 to 23.5 %, respectively. Conclusions. Over the past 10 years, with IAI and peritonitis, the most significant changes were revealed on the part of pathogenic strains of Klebsiella spp., Staphylococcus spp. and Acinetobacter spp. Multidrug resistant strains were predominantly susceptible to carbapenems, semisynthetic ureidopenicillins, aminoglycosides, glycopeptides, oxazalidinones, phosphonoic acid derivatives. In the context of changes in the microbial landscape observed over the past decade, an increase in the number of poly- and multi-resistant forms of pathogenic microorganisms in IAI and peritonitis, the choice of antibiotics for rational therapy should be based solely on bacterioscopy and antibiograms.

INTRODUCTION: The study under view is based under the aim to investigate the prevalence and susceptibility pattern of pathogens, causing urinary tract infections (UTIs), to antibiotics commonly used in routine medication. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Over a period of 10 months 100 isolates were collected for the determination of their susceptibility to chosen antibiotics, from a laboratory (MedPath Laboratories) in urban area of Karachi. All Gramnegative and Gram-positive urinary tract pathogens were re-identified by their morphological and biochemical characteristics and the susceptibility to seven antibiotics was determined. RESULTS: Pathogens were found as, Escherichia coli, Pseudomona spp, Klebsiella species, Enterobacter spp., and Staphylococci spp. In recent study, more than half of the Escherichia coli isolates were resistant to one or more of the all antimicrobial drugs tested. Resistance was most common to amoxicillin/clavulanic acid and ofloxacin, cefixime, followed by gentamicin. Our results indicate that Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas spp. were the most common organisms causing UTI. Other organisms involved were Enterobacter spp., Staphylococcus spp., and Klebsiella spp. Increasing patterns of resistant to gentamicin, and ofloxacin were also observed. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, pattern of antibiotic susceptibility to first line antibiotics is changing hence antimicrobial susceptibility testing of all isolates is crucial for the treatment of UTI. Nine hundred and fifty two milk samples from clinical bovine mastitis cases, originated from 269 farms in Northern Greece, were tested. Escherichia coli was isolated in 49.3% of samples. Furthermore, Staphylococcus spp, Corynebacterium spp, Streptococcus spp, Pseudomonas spp, Proteus spp, Klebsiella spp or a combination of the above bacteria were isolated. The bacteriological result from 4.3% of samples was negative. No correlation between clinical mastitis cases and seasonal variation was observed. Resistance of E. coli isolates to tetracycline was 82-96%, to enrofloxacin 10-30%, to gentamicin 58-80%, to cephalosporins 47-75%, to sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprime 46-81%, to ampicillin 71-92% and to neomycin 83-97%. The highest resistance rate and the appearance of multi-resistant isolates of E. coli (6%), to 8 antibacterials, were recorded during the last year of the survey.

Las infecciones del tracto urinario son las infecciones más comunes en todo el mundo y se presentan en todos los grupos de población, se estima que entre el 40% y el 50% de las mujeres  presentarán al menos una durante su vida, y de estas el  11% tendrá una infección al año, siendo la causa más frecuente de origen bacteriano (80%-90%). Constituyen una causa frecuente de consulta en atención primaria, afecta mayoritariamente a las mujeres, generalmente son monobacterianas ,sus  agentes etiológicos incluyen :  Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp, Proteus spp, Enterococcus spp, Pseudomonas spp y Staphylococcus spp, los cuales presentan prevalencias y perfiles de susceptibilidad antibiótica diferentes entre poblaciones por lo que es relevante contar con esta  información para generar un perfil clínico-epidemiológico propio que permita la implementación de medidas terapéuticas correctas, así como  la atención y control de la resistencia bacteriana, acordes con las particularidades de la población del lugar de estudio.

Due to delicious taste and readily availability, desserts are one of the most popular foods in Dhaka city. High amount of carbohydrate and protein in dessert items make them more susceptible to proliferation of microbial growth. Present study depicted a complete microbiological profile of some popular desserts such as, sweet, pastry, ice cream, pudding, falooda, yogurt and custard available in different food shop at Dhaka city, Bangladesh. All the samples were found to be contaminated with heterotrophic bacteria as well as fungi within the range of 103 to 106 cfu/g. In case of specific microflora, the growth of Staphylococcus spp., Klebsiella spp. and Pseudomonas spp. were observed in most of the samples indicates the poor quality of these products. Bioburdens of E. coli in sweet, pudding and yogurt were found in the range of 1.2×102 to 2.7×103 cfu/g. Salmonella spp., Shigella spp. and Vibrio spp. could not be isolated from any of the samples. Current study indicates that hygienic conditions should be maintained during preparation, packaging and retailing of dessert items in order to reduce the load of contamination in ready to eat foods which will ensure good health of consumers. Introducción: Las infecciones del tracto urinario (ITU), constituyen una de las infecciones bacterianas más prevalentes, sus agentes etiológicos incluyen Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp, Proteus spp, Enterococcus spp, Pseudomonas spp y Staphylococcus spp, los cuales presentan prevalencias y perfiles de susceptibilidad antibiótica diferentes entre poblaciones. Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de ITU, uropatógenos y el perfil de susceptibilidad antimicrobiana en una Institución Prestadora de Servicios de Salud (IPS) de Medellín, 2011-2012. Métodos: Estudio de prevalencia en 1.959 individuos atendidos en una IPS de tercer nivel. Se calcularon medidas de resumen, proporciones, razones de prevalencia, Chi cuadrado y Fisher. Se cuantificó la modificación del efecto (confusión o interacción) con análisis estratificado y modelos de regresión logística binaria en SPSS 21.0®. Resultados: La prevalencia de ITU fue 31% los principales agentes etiológicos fueron E. coli (69%), Enterococcus spp (11%) y Klebsiella spp (8%). La ITU y la infección por E. coli fueron estadísticamente mayores en mujeres y adultos mayores. La mayor frecuencia de resistencia de E. coli fue para ampicilina (61%), Ácido nalidixico (48%), TrimetropinSulfa (48%) y Ciprofloxacina (42%); mientras que en Klebsiella spp fue Ampicilina (100%), TrimetropinSulfa (23%), Ampicilina- Sulbactam (22%) y Cefalotina (19%). Conclusión: La elevada prevalencia de ITU, la multiplicidad de uropatógenos aislados, la identificación de grupos de mayor riesgo y la diversidad de perfiles de resistencia antibiótica, evidencian la necesidad de desarrollar investigaciones locales que permitan orientar las acciones en salud y vigilancia epidemiológica, acordes con las particularidades de cada población.

As infecções bacterianas do trato urinário (ITUs) são causa comum de doença em cães, gatos e humanos. Embora bactérias Gram positivas como Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp. e Enterococcus spp., possam ocasionar ITUs, as bactérias Gram negativas (Escherichia coli, Proteus spp., Klebsiella spp., Pseudomonas spp. e Enterobacter spp.) respondem por 75% dos casos. Este estudo teve como objetivo determinar a frequência de diferentes gêneros de bactérias em ITUs em cães e gatos, bem como a sua sensibilidade aos antimicrobianos utilizados na rotina clínica. Portanto, amostras de urina de 100 cães e gatos com sinais de ITU foram coletadas assepticamente, sofrendo avaliação microbiológica por meio de métodos qualitativos e quantitativos, além de urinálise. Todos os isolados foram submetidos a testes de sensibilidade aos antimicrobianos. ITU foi confirmada em 74% dos animais, não havendo predominância quanto ao sexo. No que diz respeito à idade, 85% dos cães e 87% dos gatos tinham idades superiores a seis anos. Noventa e cinco cepas bacterianas foram isoladas, com maior frequência de Escherichia coli (55% do total) dos sorogrupos O6 e O2. Constatou-se níveis elevados de resistência a antimicrobianos nas cepas isoladas. Para as cepas Gram positivas, tetraciclina (46,1%), enrofloxacina, cotrimazol e estreptomicina (42,3% cada) foram as drogas com os maiores índices de resistência. Para as Gram negativas, amoxacilina e tetraciclina apresentaram percentuais acima de 50%. Multiresistência foi verificada em mais de 50% dos principais gêneros isolados. Considerando-se que as cepas de E. coli apresentam potencial zoonótico e forte participação na disseminação de resistência aos antimicrobianos, ressalta-se a importância do papel do médico veterinário na prevenção e controle das ITUs animais e sua contribuição para a saúde pública.
