Abstract This work studies the column-base connection by external socket in precast structures. A parametric study of the geometric characteristics of the external socket base with smooth interface is presented. In this parametric study, the consumption of concrete and steel are analyzed. The column cross section, the embedded length of the column in the socket base and the thickness of the wall of the socket base were the variables considered in this study. It was observed that with the increase of the embedded length, the minimum cross section of the main horizontal reinforcement reduces. With this modification, the walls of the socket base that are perpendicular to the direction of the applied loads presented a reduction of their stiffness. Besides the parametric study, this paper presents a verification model. This part of the study shows the possibility to generate abacuses that simplifies the project of the socket base foundation. Moreover, a comparative analysis becomes easier to be accomplished

The article reveals the advantages and disadvantages of various technologies for the mechanized construction of underground parking, which are used in the leading capitals of the world and offers an analysis of the effectiveness of these technologies for the conditions of Moscow. Among the most commonly used trenchless technologies, parking is considered in mines arranged by mechanized shaft-boring complexes, the construction of support by the method of a screen of pipes and the construction of parking by the method of jackpunching pipes of rectangular cross-section.

A series of finite element anisotropic creep analyses of a Bridgman notch specimen have been performed. The anisotropic creep analysis is based on Hill's anisotropic yield model and the Norton creep law. An anisotropic parameter, p, is defined in order to quantify the degree of bulk material anisotropy which exists in a weld metal. The effects of p and the Norton stress exponent, n, on the stationary-state stresses, at the minimum cross-section of the notch, are presented. The material constants were chosen to include the practical range for engineering materials. Indications of the practical application of anisotropic analyses to welds are given.

The paper deals with the subject of initiation of a propagating buckle in an offshore pipeline. If the external pressure is high enough, then a propagating buckle can be initiated by locally denting the pipe. Such a buckle will propagate at any pressure above the propagation pressure of the pipe. The pressure at which a local geometric imperfection transforms itself into a propagating buckle is known as the initiation pressure. This pressure depends on the geometric characteristics of the damage. The paper restricts itself to a parametric study of damages produced by point, knife and plate indentors. It is found that the geometry of these types of damages can be well represented by the ratio of minimum diameter: maximum diameter of the most damaged section.

This paper compiles the experimental and finite-element parametric study on member distortional buckling behaviour of new built-up metal hybrid double-I-box beams (HDIBBs). The cross-section of this built-up beam is unique and looks similar to the shape of a double-I-box fabricated using four channel sections. The flange plates were provided with an intermediate stiffener. In these built-up beams there is more material in the flange portions far away from the horizontal centroidal axis of their cross-section. Hence, there is an increase in the flexural rigidity that enhances the moment capacity of the beam, under major axis bending. The geometry consists of torsionally rigid closed-box web portion that provides high resistance to minor axis lateral-buckling. The varying parameters considered were the ratio of yield stresses of the flange to the web steel plates, the ratio of breadth to the depth of the section, and the flange plate thickness. In the experimental programme, all the HDIBB members failed due to kinds of distortional buckling which was identified by web buckling and flange twist along edges. The results revealed that when flange plate slenderness increases there is a drop in the moment resistance capacity of the beams. The numerical study was performed using ABAQUS software. In comparison, there was good agreement between experimental and numerical results. The validated finite element models were further extended to perform parametric studies on ideal HDIBB models. Both the experimental and parametric study results were compared with the predicted strengths using effective width method equations specified in the Euro code standards EN 3-1-3. It was found that the current Euro code design rules slightly over-estimate the distortional buckling resistance capacity of closed form built-up cold-formed steel members. A new design equation was formulated and recommended for estimating the reduction in distortional buckling moment resistance capacity for HDIBBs.

The data of hydraulic characteristics of flow are required to be more accurate to increase reliability and accident-free work of water conducting systems and hydraulic structures. One of the problems in hydraulic calculations is the determination of friction loss that is associated with the distribution of velocities over the cross section of the flow. The article presents a comparative analysis of the regularities of velocity distribution based on the logarithmic velocity profile and hydraulic resistance in pipes and open channels. It is revealed that the Karman parameter is associated with the second turbulence constant and depend on the hydraulic resistance coefficient. The research showed that the behavior of the second turbulence constant in the velocity profile is determined mainly by the Karman parameter. The attached illustrations picture the dependence of logarithmic velocity profile parameters based on different values of the hydraulic resistance coefficient. The results of the calculations were compared to the experimental-based Nikuradze formulas for smooth and rough pipes.

The article presents selected aspects of economic poverty in the Dolnośląskie Voivodship on the background of the country and other voivodships, as well as in the cross-section of the Dolnośląskie powiats in 2013, as compared to 2010. The comparative analysis of poverty level by powiats was presented by means of taxonomic synthetic measure based on a set of three selected diagnostic indicators. A complement to the objective assessment of poverty in the Dolnośląskie Voivodship was a presentation of results of subjective assessment of material situation of households in the voivodships’ cross-section.

We calculate the spin independent neutralino-proton cross section for universal SUGRA, non universal SUGRA and D-brane models with R-parity invariance. The regions of maximum cross section in these models has started to be probed by the current detectors. The minimum cross section generally is [Formula: see text] and hence will be accessible in the future detectors, barring special regions of parameter space where it can reduce to ≃10-12pb. However, the squarks and gluinos will be heavy [Formula: see text] in the latter case, but still accessible at the LHC.
