Abstract.FACTORIAL STRUCTURE ANALYSIS OF THE APRENDER A CONVIVIR PROGRAM OBSERVATION SCALE IN 3-YEAR OLD (ROAC-3)The present study analyzes the factorial structure and the internal consistency of the observation scale of the Aprender a Convivir program for 3-year-old (ROAC-3) used to assess student learning related with the contents worked on the Aprender a Convivir program. Aprender a Convivir program is aimed at 3 to 7-year-old students and develop social competence with a preventive purpose (Alba, Justicia-Arráez, Pichardo y Justicia, 2013). Results show the existence of seven factors within the ROAC-3, after the exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis performed. Likewise, a social competence one-factor model was found for the scale, considering that the variables were positively and statistically significant around the social competence latent factor. In general, internal consistency coefficients of ROAC-3 were adequate.Key words: Aprender a Convivir program, social competence, observation scale, confimatory factor analysis.Resumen.En la siguiente investigación se analiza la estructura factorial y la consistencia interna del Registro de Observación del programa Aprender a Convivir en 3 años (ROAC-3), utilizado para evaluar el aprendizaje del alumnado en relación con los contenidos abordados en este programa de intervención. Aprender a Convivir es un programa dirigido al alumnado de 3 a 7 años que desarrolla la competencia social con un objetivo de prevención (Alba, Justicia-Arráez, Pichardo y Justicia, 2013). Los resultados encontrados tras los análisis exploratorios y confirmatorios, muestran la existencia de siete factores dentro de la escala. Por otro lado, se obtuvo un modelo unifactorial del registro total ya que los siete factores se relacionaron de forma positiva en torno a un factor latente, la competencia social. Los índices de consistencia interna del ROAC-3 fueron adecuados.Palabras clave: Aprender a Convivir, Educación Infantil, registro de observación, competencia social.

ABSTRACT Objective: to verify the psychometric properties of the Attitudes Scale facing Alcohol and Alcoholism (EAFAA) and people with disorders related to the use of alcohol in nursing students. Method: a convenience sample (n=420) completed the EAFAA, the data were submitted to Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Results: the EFA resulted in an instrument composed of 48 items divided into four factors. The CFA has established the validity of the factorial structure. The internal consistency of the scale was considered adequate (α=0.85) presenting a sensitivity of 70% and specificity of 75%. Conclusion: the EAFAA constitutes a reliable instrument to identify the attitudes of nursing students towards alcohol, alcoholism and persons with disorders related to alcohol use.

This study aimed to investigate the construct validity and factor structure of NEO-Five Factor Inventory (Costa & McCrae, 1992) in Iranian population. Participants were 1639 (780 male, 859 female) Tehran people aged 15-71. The results of explanatory factor analysis showed no notable differences between the factor structures extracted by oblique and orthogonal rotations and didn’t replicate the scoring key. The Openness and Agreeableness had more psychometric problems (low internal consistency and high deleted items). The female’s NEO-FFI factor structure (with 41 items of 60 loaded on intended factors)was clearer than males’ (with 37 items). Confirmatory factor analysis supported the male’s latent modeling of the 31-item but failed to fit the female’s model. The women scored significantly higher in the Neuroticism, Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness than men who scored significantly higher in the Extraversion. As previous findings, the current results showed the NEO-FFI’s cultural limitations assessing the universality of the Five Factor Model.

The study aimed to verify the psychometric properties of the 100-item HEXACO-PI-R questionnaire. The sample consisted of 1624 adults aged from 16 to 79 years (M=34.5, SD=13.35) who filled the paper-pen self-report form of the HEXACO-PI-R. The average internal consistency of the six factors was α=.78 (from .72 for Openness to .81 for Honesty-Humility) and α=.60 for facets. The Altruism scale in the Slovak translation did not reach a satisfactory internal consistency (α=.29). Mean values in the Slovak-speaking sample were 3.29, and standard deviations .53 for factor level and .74 at the facet level. Sex differences showed the higher Emotionality (d=.99) and Honesty-Humility (d= .38) in women. Age differences in Honesty-Humility showed a medium effect size. Factors did not inter-correlate, or they correlated weakly, except for r=.34 in the relationship between Agreeableness and Honesty-Humility. The factors were well distinguished from one another. The exploratory factor analysis with Promax rotation confirmed the six-factor model, which explained in total 44% of data variance, with an average loading of .60. Individual one-factor models met most of the goodness of fit criteria in confirmatory factor analysis, but the six-factor model did not meet them. The controversy associated with assessing the internal structure of multidimensional personality inventories by confirmatory factor analysis is discussed. According to the currently published research studies, the research findings supported the reliability and internal validity of HEXACO-PI-R in Slovak translation.

IntroductionThe F-Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale is a widely used instrument to assess perfectionism trait. The original scale comprises 35-items that measure the six dimensions of Frost et al (1990) conceptualization of perfectionism: personal standards (PS), concern over mistakes (CM), doubts about actions (DA), parental criticism (PC), Parental expectations (PE) and Organization (O).ObjectiveTo examine the factor structure of the 24-items short form of the F-MPS using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), in a sample of Portuguese university students.MethodsThe sample comprises 344 university students (68.4% females), with an average age of 20.69 years (SD = 1.59; range = 17–24). They completed a version of F-MPS with 24 items that results from the selection of the four items with highest loadings in the respective six dimensions of the original Portuguese version (Amaral et al., 2013).ResultsAfter correlated errors, we obtained a good fit for the FMPS with six factors (X2/df = 2.125; CFI = .936; GFI = .891, RMSEA = .057; P[rmsea≤ .05] = .043). The 24-item F-MPS short form revealed good internal consistency (α = .825). The six dimensions showed acceptable or good internal consistency, as revealed by Cronbach's alpha (α: PS = .80; CM = .76; DA = .82; PC = .84; PE = .89, O = .85).ConclusionsThe F-MPS 24 items short form CFA confirmed the six factor model as a reliable and valid measure to assess multidimensional perfectionism in Portuguese university students.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Dukungan sosial adalah pemberian bantuan dari seseorang kepada orang lain berupa perhatian emosional, bantuan materil, pemberian informasi, penghargaan, pujian, pemecahan masalah dan bantuan nyata, sehingga orang yang mendapatkan dukungan tersebut merasa dihargai dan dicintai. Salah satu bagian dari dukungan sosial adalah dukungan teman sebaya. Hal tersebut bisa berupa penerimaan dari teman terhadap individu, yang menimbulkan persepsi dalam dirinya bahwa ia disayangi, diperhatikan, dihargai, dan ditolong, sehingga menimbulkan perasaan bahwa kita memiliki arti bagi orang lain atau menjadi bagian dari jaringannya. Menurut Weiss (dalam Cutrona dan Russell, 1987) komponen dukungan sosial meliputi pemenuhan 6 hal kebutuhan, yaitu emotional attachment, social integration, reassurance of worth, reliable alliance, guidance, dan opportunity for nurturance. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji validitas kostruk instrumen tersebut. Data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dari santri kelas 1 extention Pondok Pesantren Daar El- Qolam yang berjumlah 204 orang. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengujinya adalah confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) menggunakan software LISREL 8.70. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bawa seluruh item yang berjumlah 23 item bersifat unidimensional. Artinya seluruh item hanya mengukur satu faktor saja, sehingga model satu faktor yang diteorikan oleh The Social Provisions Scale dapat diterima. Social support is the provision of assistance from someone to others in the form emotional attention, material assistance, information giving, appreciation, praise, problem solving and real help so that people who get that support feel valued and loved. One of the parts of social support is peer support. This can be in the form of acceptance from friends to individuals, which gives rise to a perception in him/her that he/she is loved, cared for, appreciated, and helped, giving rise to feelings that we matter to others. According to Weiss (in Cutrona and Russel, 1987) the component of social support includes the fulfillment of six things: emotional attachment, social integration, reassurance of worth, reliable alliance, guidance, and opportunity for nurturance. This study aims to examine the validity of the boarding instrument. The data in this research were obtained from students in class 1 extention of Daar El-Qolam Islamic Boarding School with 204 people. The method that used to test them is confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) using LISREL 8.70 as the software. The results of this research show that all items, totaling 23 items, are unidimensional. This means that all items only measure one factor so that a one-factor model theorized by The Social Provisions Scale is acceptable.

The aim of this work is to examine the pentafactorial validity of the AF5 Self-Concept Questionnaire in Spanish and Chilean young adults. From the responses of a total of 4,383 young adults aged 17 to 22 years (1,918 Spanish, 44%, and 2,465 Chilean, 56%) it was analyzed the reliability of the instrument, the compared validity of the 5 oblique factor model proposed by the authors versus the unifactorial and the orthogonal alternative models, and was studied the invariance of one Chilean sample. The results of confirmatory factor analyses supported the authors' pentafactorial model. The multi-group factorial invariance showed that Chilean sample of the AF5 does not change neither the Spanish factor weights, nor the variances and covariances of the factors, or the error variances of items. Finally, the internal consistency of the five scales was good in the samples of both countries.

The increasing interest in dimensional approaches towards schizophrenia spectrum pathology calls for instruments that can be used to study developmental markers conveying risk for psychopathology prior to onset of the disorder. In this study we evaluated the Dutch child version (SPQ-C-D) of the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ) developed by Raine, in terms of reliability and factorial structure in comparison to SPQ data from two studies with adults. The 74-item SPQ-C-D was completed by 219 children and adolescents aged 9 to 18 years. Internal consistency was assessed and the factorial structure was analyzed using principal component analysis (PCA) and confirmatory factor analysis. Results showed that most of the subscales had high Cronbach’s alphas, indicating good internal consistency. PCA resulted in three components, similar to the adult studies: Cognitive-Perceptual, Interpersonal, and Disorganization. The pattern of individual subscales loading on each of the components was identical to the original Raine study, except for one additional subscale loading on the Disorganization component. In addition, forcing Raine’s factorial structure on our data with confirmatory factor analysis resulted in an overall adequate model fit. In conclusion, the SPQ-C-D appears to be a suitable dimensional measure of schizotypal traits in populations aged 9 to 18 years.

Abstract Background: The Modified Fresno Test is an adapted version for physiotherapists. So far, none of the versions of the Fresno Test were subjected to analysis of the factorial structure. Objective of the study was describe the exploratory and confirmatory factorial structure of the Modified Fresno Test adapted to the Portuguese-Brazilian and analyze the statistic feasibility for the elaboration of a short version. Methods: The questionnaire was applied in 57 physiotherapists, being 36 professionals (13 of these also professors) and 21 students of the last semester of the physiotherapy course. Exploratory Factor Analysis was performed by the method of principal components. The confirmatory factor analysis was performed by the method of maximum likelihood. The score of the answers in the test and retest was evaluated, totaling 228 observations. Reliability was assessed by means of internal consistency, using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Results: The internal consistency indicated value of 0.81 for the questions of the instrument. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin test presented acceptable values (KMO=0.80). The Bartlett’s sphericity test indicated that the correlations were sufficient for the analysis. The analysis revealed the presence of 3 factors (eigenvalues > 1), which explains 60.9% of total variance of the instrument. In the confirmatory factor analysis, the second model which tested a three-factor structure provided a better fit to the data. Conclusion: The analysis showed good factorial validity and adequate internal consistency for the use of the instrument consisting of 13 questions and 3 factors. This model proved to be better than the original model. The short version consisting of 9 questions may be an appropriate alternative for use in the population of interest.

ABSTRACTObjectives:This study aims to adapt and validate the most common measure of self-esteem, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), in the elderly Spanish population based on the initial one-factor model proposed by the author of the scale.Design:The factorial validity of the scale was tested using confirmatory factor analysis.Setting:The study was carried out in the city of Valencia (Spain).Participants:A total of 231 elderly people with a mean age 72.68 (SD=8.55).Measurements:The participants completed the questionnaire RSES for the validation process, sociodemographic data and Mini-Mental State Examination.Results:Confirmatory factor analysis with a five-item structure for the one-factor structure showed good fit indexes (Chi square [5] = 217.20, p < .05; CFI = .965; GFI = .980; RMSEA = .070 [90% confidence interval of RMSEA, .022-.087]), and reliability, as internal consistency, measure with Cronbach’s alpha was .732.Conclusion:The adaptation of the RSES showed a unifactorial structure with good internal consistency. This reduced adaptation/version of the scale may facilitate clinical practice and be useful in research in older people.
