Abstract.LEARNING BASED ON PROJECTS IN THE UNIVERSITY FIELD: AN EXPERIENCE OF METHODOLOGICAL INNOVATION IN EDUCATIONThe present work presents an experience of methodological innovation in the area of education, concretely in the degrees of Pedagogy, Social Education and Preschool Education. The methodology carried out is the Project-based Learning, which aim is that the student relates the conceptual contents seen in class to the reality of the world and especially with his professional future, being the student the protagonist of his learning and the teacher the guide of the same one, fundamental idea of the philosophy of the European Space of Higher Education. The methodology carried out centres on the workgroups that form the students, of five or six persons. Groups that will be employed at the project along the whole subject. In the first moment, they will decide the topic in which they are going to centre on the project, designing from this moment, a project of real intervention. The teacher does a follow-up to them by means of tutorships, and a continuous assessment of their work. To evaluate the achievements obtained in the learning of the students, two instruments were in use, one destined to verifying the evolution of the will of work of the students thinking they themselves about his performance in the group and about that of his mates, and other one centred in valuing the level of satisfaction of the student body with this methodology. The results are highly positive, correlating with different previous investigations in which similar works have been realized, verifying that it increases the performance, the motivation, and the capacity of work in group of the students.Key words: Project-based learning, Sciences of education, workgroupsResumen.

e12542 Background: Sexual dysfunction from breast cancer and its various therapies is present in up to 60% of the breast cancer patients. Sexuality remains a neglected issue; doctors often ignore it, claiming they lack the time, knowledge or expertise required to address it. Objectives: To evaluate the sexuality of breast cancer survivors, inquire about the degree of interest in receiving help to resolve sexual dysfunctions related to the diagnosis and treatment of the disease and the level of satisfaction with the care received. Methods: One hundred twenty eigth patients with early breast cancer treated at the Mastology Unit of the Hospital de Clínicas were enrrolled. The study was approved by the hospital’s Ethics Committee. The selected questionnaire is the one used at the University of Chicago Medical Oncology Clinic. Results: Most patients were over 50 years old (96 patients) and had a sexual partner (87 patients), 98 patients (76.5%) had been sexually active within the last 12 months and 85 (86.7%) reported having sexual problems. Moreover, most patients (67/128, 68.3%) responded that sexuality was important in their lives; 85 (86.6%) were interested in receiving support to treat their sexual difficulties, and 72 (73.4%) saw the feasibility of addressing them with a doctor. However, only 29 (29.6%) had sought medical help for that purpose, and most were unhappy with the care received. Seventy-nine patients (80.6%) would be willing to participate in a program aimed at confronting their sexual problems. Conclusions: Our results reveal the need to address the sexual problems of patients diagnosed and treated for breast cancer as part of their medical care. Future studies should focus on developing and evaluating the success of specific interventions in the management of these patients’ sexual dysfunction and - even more importantly - designing strategies for its prevention.

The aim of this study was to longitudinally assess the characteristics of background pain and breakthrough pain (BTcP), analgesic treatment, and satisfaction with treatment four weeks after the first assessment. Methods: Adult cancer patients with a diagnosis of BTcP were included. At T0, age, gender, visit setting, cancer diagnosis, the extent of the disease, ongoing anticancer treatments, and Karnofsky level were recorded. The background pain intensity in the last 24 h (on a numerical scale 0–10), opioids used for background pain, and their doses, expressed as oral morphine equivalents (OME), as well as other analgesic drugs, were recorded. The number of BTcP episodes, their intensity, predictability and precipitating factors, onset duration of untreated episodes, and interference with daily activities were collected. Analgesics and doses used for BTcP, and the mean time to meaningful pain relief after taking medication, were assessed. The level of satisfaction with BTcP medication was also assessed. Adverse effects to be attributed to these medications were also recorded. At T4, the same data were evaluated. Results: After one-month follow-up, patients had a lower number of BTcP episodes and peak intensity, possibly due to the optimization of background analgesia. The principal characteristics of BTcP did not change significantly. Conclusion: A careful and continuous assessment should be guaranteed to all patients to limit the burden induced by BTcP, other than treating BTcP episodes with short-onset opioids.

Governments the world over are increasingly challenging universities to produce human resources with the right skills sets and knowledge required to drive their economies in this twenty-first century. It therefore becomes important for universities to produce graduates that bring tangible and meaningful contributions to the economies. Graduate tracer studies are hailed to be one of the ways in which universities can respond and reposition themselves to the actual needs of the industry. It is against this background that this study was conducted to establish the relevance of the Department of Information and Communication Technology at Mzuzu University to the Malawian economy by systematically investigating occupations of its former students after graduating from the University. The study adopted a quantitative design by distributing an online-based questionnaire with predominantly closed-ended questions. The study focused on three key objectives: to identify key employing sectors of ICT graduates, to gauge the relevance of the ICT programme to its former students’ jobs and businesses, and to establish the level of satisfaction of the ICT curriculum from the perspectives of former ICT graduates. The key findings from the study are that the ICT programme is relevant to the industry. However, some respondents were of the view that the curriculum should be strengthened by revising it through an addition of courses such as Mobile Application Development, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Data Mining, and LINUX Administration to keep abreast with the ever-changing ICT trends and job requirements. The study strongly recommends the need for regular reviews of the curriculum so that it is continually responding to and matches the needs of the industry.
