Sage plants (Salvia officinalis L.) were dried in the passive dryers in different times of the year. Different passive solar dryers were used to achieve the socio-economical benefits from drying the medicinal plants growing in Sinai area. Drying sage plants might be a source to increase the Bedouin income instead of cannabis or marijuana, especially if it is exported abroad. Four drying methods were used in this investigation to dry sage in two seasons, namely August 2009 and March 2010 before flowering stage. Plants were dried in an Unglazed transpired passive solar dryer with 100% exposure to direct sun-rays, in a greenhouse dryer covered with shading cloth with 50% exposure to direct sun-rays, and with 0% sun-rays while the medicinal plants were protected from sun i.e. in shaded barn. Investigations were carried out under the environmental weather conditions of Ismailia, Egypt. The study revealed that sage can be dried at different times of the year even before the flowering stage of the plants.

The problem of biodiversity conservation and rational use of natural resources remains one of the most pressing problems for countries around the world. To maintain the stability of biological resources a sufficiently developed basis for their reproduction is required, which, in turn requires a preliminary study of the developmental features of individual organisms both in the natural environment and during their introduction into the cultural environment. A special place among the spice plants is occupied by the Lamiaceae Lindl. family. It is rich in medicinal and essential oil plants, which are widely used in family medicine, as well as in folk medicine and food industry, perfumery and cosmetic industries. Such plants include Origanum vulgare and Salvia officinalis. In addition, both plant species are added as phytobiotics to animal feed. The article deals with sterilization of seeds of medicinal plants Origanum vulgare L. and Salvia officinalis L. and the effect of sterilization methods on seed germination. For in vitro cultivation an aseptic, undamaged pure culture was obtained from the original plant material, and the most optimal method for sterilizing the seeds of these medicinal plants was chosen.

This article highlights the different portions of minerals in fertilizer mixture used for the acceleration of cultivation of the medicinal plant of Sage in soil – climatic conditions of Syrdarya region. The obtained results showed that different portions of minerals in fertilizer mixture have a positive effect on increasing the yield of seedlings and cuttings of the plant. When feeding with different sharings of mineral fertilizers used in an experiment, applying Nitrogen-90, Phosphorus - 60 and Potassium - 40 kg/ha norms has given good results to the rapid growth of plants. This article provides information on the technology of intensive cultivation of seedlings and cuttings of Salvia plant.

In this study, Common Sage (Salvia officinalis L.) and Anatolian Sage (Salvia fruticosa Mill.) seeds, which are important medicinal plants, were used as plant material. The seeds of the Salvia genus have dormancy as they have seed husks containing a mucilaginous layer. For this reason, in order to improve the germination and emergence performance of seeds and to increase the quality of seeds, nine pre-sowing treatments (KNO3 application, GA3 application, polymer coating, polymer coating + KNO3, polymer coating + GA3, priming, priming + polymer coating, priming + polymer coating + KNO3, priming + polymer coating + GA3) were applied to the seeds and the effect of applications on germination rate, emergency rate, germination speed and emergency speed were investigated.

Numerous articles on Salvia officinalis L. have been published regarding the composition of their essential oil. The considerable variation found may be due to the quality of the plant material as well as to the methods used for analysis. A simple GC-MS method was developed and optimized in the QbD approach, for the determination of sage essential oils. The optimization of GC-MS analysis was performed using different mobile phase flows, injection volumes, split ratios and temperature programs. The optimized method proved to be simple and can be successfully applied for the determination of sage essential oils.

Background.: Currently, the pharmacological management in Alzheimer's disease is based on several chemical structures, represented by acetylcholinesterase and N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor ligands, with still unclear molecular mechanisms, but severe side effects. For this reason, a challenge for Alzheimer's disease treatment remains to identify new drugs with reduced side effects. Recently, the natural compounds, in particular certain chemical compounds identified in the essential oil of peppermint, sage, grapes, sea buckthorn, have increased interest as possible therapeutics. Objectives.: In this paper, we have summarized data from the recent literature, on several chemical compounds extracted from Salvia officinalis L., with therapeutic potential in Alzheimer's disease. Methods.: In addition to the wide range of experimental methods performed in vivo and in vitro, also we presented some in silico studies of medicinal compounds. Results. Through this mini-review, we present the latest information regarding the therapeutic characteristics of natural compounds isolated from Salvia officinalis L. in Alzheimer's disease. Conclusion.: Thus, based on the information presented, we can say that phytotherapy is a reliable therapeutic method in a neurodegenerative disease.
