The report is devoted to the dependence of the dictionary's design features on its functional properties: reference and descriptive functions correlate with the basic set of structural elements; the addition of a function for fixing research results expands this set, and the research function involves the introduction of new elements and computer methods for processing them.

A prime consideration in the design of turbomachinery hot section structural frames is thermal fatigue caused by differential heating of the frame basic structural elements. This paper describes the general thermal deflection pattern of a frame and some design features which can accommodate this relative expansion without excessive stress. Also discussed is a particular combination of design features which provide increased tolerance for thermal expansion while maintaining a large mechanical stiffness as is often required for a high bypass ratio turbofan engine application. This unique combination of frame design features, developed under NASA contract NAS3-20643 to NASA-Lewis Research Center with Mr. Carl C. Ciepluch as the Lewis Project Manager, represents a significant contribution to state of the art frame design.

Over the past thirty years Subsection NF of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section III, has been transformed from a basic set of structural rules to evaluate and qualify component supports to a dynamic Code that recognized the difference between pressure retaining and structural elements. Initially, with the publication of the 1974 Edition of the ASME Code, Subsection NF identified essentially two different types of supports, Plate & Shell and Linear. Plate & Shell supports were evaluated using in effect the same rules in Subsections NB, NC and ND for pressure retaining elements. Linear supports, on the other hand, were an odd group. The ASME Code was a pressure Code providing rules for pressure retaining components such as vessels, piping, valves, pumps, tanks etc. In 1963, when the first Edition of ASME Section III for nuclear plants was published, there wasn’t any place for non-pressure retaining elements such as component supports. This continued for eleven years until supports made their debut in the 1974 Edition of Section III (actually the 1973 Winter Addenda to the 1971 Edition). At this time the AISC Manual for Steel Construction was the premier set of rules for the design and construction of steel structures. Since many supports were comprised of structural steel elements due to the nature of loading (thermal and seismic) at nuclear power plants, the AISC Code seemed to be the ideal set of rules to adopt for the construction of supports. Additional requirements for temperature and seismic considerations were incorporated in Subsection NF to account for supports on nuclear plants.

AbstractMuch of the structure-based mechanistic understandings of the function of SLC6A neurotransmitter transporters emerged from the study of their bacterial LeuT-fold homologs. It has become evident, however, that structural differences such as the long N- and C-termini of the eukaryotic neurotransmitter transporters impart an expanded set of functional properties to the eukaryotic transporters, which are not shared by the bacterial homologs that lack the structural elements that appeared later in evolution. However, mechanistic insights into some of the measured functional properties of the eukaryotic transporters, that have been suggested to involve these structural elements, are sparse. To learn how the structural elements added in evolution enable mechanisms of the eukaryotic transporters in ways not shared with their bacterial LeuT-like homologs, we focused on the human dopamine transporter (hDAT) as a prototype. We present the results of a study employing large-scale molecular dynamics simulations and comparative Markov State Model analysis of experimentally determined properties of the wild type and mutant hDAT constructs, which reveal a rich spectrum of interactions of the hDAT N-terminus and the mechanisms by which these contribute to regulation (e.g., by phosphorylation), or to entirely new phenotypes (e.g., reverse uptake – efflux) added in evolution. We reveal separate roles for the distal and proximal segments of the much larger N-terminus shared by the eukaryotic transporters compared to the bacterial ones, consistent with the proposal that the size of this region increased during evolution to enable more, and different, modes of regulation that are not shared with the bacterial homologs.

The author of this paper suggests directions of introduction of innovative technologies in production of modern special footwear. However, it is emphasized that the research results have the potential to apply innovative technologies in special footwear. It is noted that innovative footwear manufacturing technologies apply not only to the design, equipment, but also to the use of the latest footwear materials, lining, intermediate materials and soles, connection method and execution technologies. Purpose. The purpose of this work is to highlight the diversity of innovative technologies in the modern production of special footwear, based on the theoretical analysis, with some practical examples in the fi eld of industrial production and publications. Methodology. A systematic approach to the study of the studied objects was used. The objects are innovative technologies in modern production, which consider the design features of footwear that can be introduced in the manufacture of special footwear. During the research, the following methods were used: analysis and review. Results and conclusions. The results and conclusions of the study showed the promising implementation of innovative technologies in footwear. On the basis of the research, it will be the time to develop models of special footwear with the integration of innovative technologies into textiles, leather and other materials. Shoes with innovative technologies change the perception of special footwear and open to people new ways of expression. Due to this, a person will not only be able to show his creativity by changing the design of their shoes in real time, but also more likely to save their lives Practical value. Research results can be used to improve the process of designing and manufacturing special footwear for employees of the National Police of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, and other military formations.

The paper presents the research results of deceleration of category M1 vehicles in winter season under conditions of negative ambient air temperature of -15 ± 0.5 ºC, on rolled snow, using the BRAKE TESTER model LWS-2/MC decelerometer. Using the values obtained as a result of the experimental research, the adhesion coefficients of vehicles for the given covering are derived, taking into account design features.

I have been asked to remark on the instrumentation which, at least from the viewpoint of the 1980's, seems most important for early implementation on a VLT in the 1990's. To avoid simply making a long list of many possibilities, each of which has some advantage over its competitors, I will divide the discussion into three parts: a summary of the principal observational advances made possible by a VLT in the 15-20 meter class; a list of what is arguably the resulting basic set of needed instruments; and a brief consideration of the telescope design features, technology development programs, and political/financial efforts required to make those instruments a reality.

Hemocyanin of the horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus) has been studied in nany ways. Recently the structure, dissociation and reassembly was studied using electron microscopy of negatively stained specimens as the method of investigation. Crystallization of the protein proved to be possible and X-ray crystallographic analysis was started. Also fluorescence properties of the hemocyanin after dialysis against Tris-glycine buffer + 0.01 M EDTA pH 8.9 (so called “stripped” hemocyanin) and its fractions II and V were studied, as well as functional properties of the fractions by NMR. Finally the temperature-jump method was used for assaying the oxygen binding of the dissociating molecule and of preparations of isolated subunits. Nevertheless very little is known about the structure of the intact molecule. Schutter et al. suggested that the molecule possibly consists of two halves, combined in a staggered way, the halves themselves consisting of four subunits arranged in a square.
