Three new zinc complexes [Zn3L2(μ2-η1:η1-CH3COO)2(μ2-η2:η0-CH3COO)2] (1), [ZnCl2(HL)] (2) and [ZnBr2(HL)] (3), where L = 5-bromo-2-(((2-isopropylamino)ethyl)imino)methyl)phenolate, HL = 5-bromo-2-(((2-isopropylammonio) ethyl)imino)methyl)phenolate, have been synthesized under microwave irradiation. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-Vis spectra, molar conductivity, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray analysis revealed that the Zn atoms in complex 1 are in square pyramidal and octahedral coordination, and those in complexes 2 and 3 are in tetrahedral coordination. The molecules of the complexes are linked through hydrogen bonds and π···π interactions. In order to evaluate the biological activity of the complexes, in vitro antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was assayed.

A mononuclear copper(II) complex, [CuL] (1), and a phenolato-bridged trinuclear zinc(II) complex, [Zn3Cl2L2(DMF)2] (2), where L is the deprotonated form of N,N’-bis(4-bromosalicylidene)propane-1,3-diamine (H2L), have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The Cu atom in complex 1 is in square planar coordination, while the terminal and central Zn atoms in complex 2 are in square pyramidal and octahedral coordination, respectively. The antibacterial activities of the complexes have been tested on the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, and the yeast Candida parapsilosis.

Microwave-assisted organic synthesis, a green chemistry approach, is nowadays widely used in the drug synthesis. Microwave-assisted synthesis improves both throughput and turnaround time for medicinal chemists by offering the benefits of drastically reduced reaction times, increased yields, and pure products. Schiff bases are the important class of organic compounds due to their flexibility, and structural diversities due to the presence of azomethine group which is helpful for elucidating the mechanism of transformation and rasemination reaction in biological system. This novel compound could also act as valuable ligands for the development of new chemical entities. In the present work, some Schiff bases of Isatin derivatives was synthesized using microwave heating method. Schiff base of Isatin were synthesized by condensation of the keto group of Isatin with different aromatic primary amines. They were characterized by means of spectral data and subsequently subjected to the in vitro antibacterial activities against gram positive and gram negative strains of microbes. It was observed that the compound with electron withdrawing substituents exhibited good antibacterial activities against almost all the micro organisms.

Zinc oxide micropowder was synthesized by a microwave-assisted method. Zinc nitrate and ammonium hydroxide were used as the starting precursors with the mole ratio of 1:1. The white precipitated powder was formed after adding ammonium hydroxide until the pH of final solution was 9 and treated with the microwave radiation power at 1000 Watt for 2-6 min. The phase of zinc oxide micropowder was examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). A single phase of hexagonal structure was obtained. The morphology and chemical composition of zinc oxide micropowder were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The particle was plate-like in shape with the range of particle size of 0.1-0.5 µm. The elemental composition of zinc oxide showed the characteristic X-ray energy value as follows: zinc of Lα = 1.012 keV, Kα = 8.630 keV and Kβ = 9.570 keV and oxygen of Kα = 0.525 keV, respectively.

Pure amine-bis(phenol) ligands are readily accessible in high yield, often >90%, when the Mannich condensation reactions are performed “on water” or in poly(ethyleneglycol) (PEG). Microwave-assisted synthesis dramatically reduces the time and energy required to prepare these molecules, typically from 24 h to 5 min. The approach seems to be widely applicable (7 amines and 5 phenols were tested to yield a diverse set of bis(phenol) ligands). Significant improvements in yield were observed for ligands derived from di-tert-amyl and di-tert-butyl phenols, possibly resulting from a hydrophobic effect. Single crystal X-ray diffraction data for the ligand derived from p-cresol and N,N′-dimethylethylenediamine is reported.Key words: amine-phenol, Mannich condensation, on water, microwave, ligand, high-throughput.

Two new polynuclear zinc complexes [Zn2Br2(L1)2] (1) and [Zn(μ1,5-dca)L2]n (2), and two new mononuclear cobalt(III) complexes [CoL1N3(Brsal)] (3) and [CoL2(HL2)] (4), where L1 = 5-bromo-2-(((2-dimethylamino)ethyl)imino)methyl)phenolate, L2 = 5-bromo-2-(((2-hydroxyethyl)imino)methyl)phenolate, dca = dicyanoamide, Brsal = 5-bromo-2-formylphenolate, have been synthesized and characterized. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UVVis spectra, molar conductivity, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray analysis indicates that the Zn atoms in complex 1 are in distorted square pyramidal coordination, the Zn atoms in complex 2 are in distorted trigonal bipyramidal coordination, and the Co atoms in complexes 3 and 4 are in octahedral coordination. The molecules of the complexes are stacked through π···π interactions and hydrogen bonds. The complexes were assayed for antibacterial activities against three Gram-positive bacterial strains (B. subtilis, S. aureus, and St. faecalis) and three Gram-negative bacterial strains (E. coli, P. aeruginosa, and E. cloacae) by MTT method.

A series of Zn(ii) complexes with 5-(4-R-phenyl)-3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazoles have been synthesized and subsequently characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, 1H-NMR, FT-IR spectroscopy, elemental analyses, ESI-MS, and PXRD.

Calcium oxide ( CaO ) is an important inorganic compound, which is used across various industries as catalyst, toxic-waste remediation agent, adsorbent, etc. CaO nanoparticles were obtained by the microwave irradiation technique, using Ca(NO3)2 ⋅ 4H2O and NaOH as starting materials. The formation of monocrystalline CaO nanoparticles was confirmed by the XRD (X-ray diffraction) and TEM (transmission electron microscopy) as well as by SAED (selected area electron diffraction) analysis. The structure of the CaO nanocrystal was found to be cubic with particle size, 24 nm and surface area, 74 m2/g.

Urease inhibitors can inhibit the decomposition rate of urea, and decrease the air pollution caused by ammonia. In this paper, four new copper(II) complexes [CuL(ONO2)]n (1), [Cu2L2(μ1,3-N3)2] (2), [CuBrL] (3), and [CuClL] (4), where L = 5-bromo-2-(((2-methylamino)ethyl)imino)methyl)phenolate, have been synthesized and characterized. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, molar conductivity, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray analysis reveals that Cu atoms in complexes 1 and 2 are in square pyramidal coordination, and those in complexes 3 and 4 are in square planar coordination. The molecules of the complexes are linked through hydrogen bonds and π···π interactions. The inhibitory effects of the complexes on Jack bean urease were studied, which showed that the complexes have effective activity on urease.
