The article is devoted to general theoretical issues of communication in the perception of architecture. When adopting the axiomatic position about the adequacy of the perception of architecture “on the spot”, i.e. with direct physical and visual contact of the subject of perception with the architectural object, the authors raise the question of the translation of this perception to another subject who does not have the possibility of direct perception by deconstructing the resulting image, forming on this basis a model as an object of translation. The perceiving subject, i.e. “subject two”, in turn, deciphers the model and, based on it, forms a new image by extrapolation, homogeneous to the primary impression in the case of successful translation. The article describes the nuances and complexities of such a process.

The work ‘Corruption Measurements: Caught Between Conceptualizing the Phenomenon and Promoting New Governance Agenda?’ is a qualitative study based on reviewing the literature available on the subject. It starts with the introduction that explains the evolution of the idea of measuring corruption, its relevance to governance and associated theoretical issues. The topic, ‘Evolution of Corruption Measurements’ gives an overview about different corruption indices. While the topic ‘Challenges to Corruption Measurements’ briefly introduces the challenges faced by corruption measurements, the topics ‘Conceptualizing Corruption’ and ‘Methodological Issues’ give insight into the contentions faced by corruption measurements from different theoretical perspectives. Also, explained in these sections are how the corruption measurements have conceptualized corruption over the period of three decades; and how do they keep evolving their methods in order to become more relevant in policy advocacy. Issues associated with data aggregation also are explained in-depth in this work. This work demonstrates that though continuous methodological evolution and empirical research have helped corruption measurements to improve their acceptance level, the gap that exist between corruption control framework and practice will remain a challenge to address in future if corruption measurements do not genuinely account the contextual realities.

This essay is no more than a preliminary endeavor to examine analogies between principles of land tenure in the recent history of an East African society and what appear to be strikingly similar principles that obtained in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries in England. If these analogies are demonstrable with a reasonable degree of plausibility, a useful framework of reference may be established within which some broader theoretical issues can be discussed. One such issue is that, given a degree of structural similarity between two or more social systems, there might be a corresponding equivalence in the logic of legal thought in response to a common object of litigation—in this particular case, the subject of land tenure.

Dear Readers and Authors! This is the first issue of the new scientific digital journal "Population and Economics".Continuing the traditions of Professor Dmitry Ignatievich Valentey's university demographic school, we have planned to make an interdisciplinary journal devoted to the discussion of issues related to population. The subject area of the research, the results of which we plan to present on the pages of the journal, covers the research interests of disciplines such as demography, population economics, labor economics, social policy, behavioral economics, institutional economics, macroeconomics, marketing research, socio-economic geography, economic sociology and other disciplines. It seems that it is at interdisciplinary crossroads of different sciences that the discoveries in the coming decades will be made. The Journal welcomes the use of various research methods – methods of demographic analysis and forecasting, econometric and other mathematical methods, quantitative and qualitative sociological methods, as well as ones from other sciences. An interdisciplinary approach involves the mutual usage of methods from different sciences. An important feature of the modern scientific reality is an unprecedented increase in the volume of information and data on population. This broadens the possibilities of analysis and simultaneously requires the creation of a culture of data exchange. I mean data formed by the authors for the research purpose, to continue dialogue on the issue raised and to involve young researchers in this dialogue. Therefore, we encourage authors to place their working databases and author codes in open access on the pages of our journal. The journal opens various sections. Apart original articles, we will publish a methodical section for teachers "The Teacher's Podium". And "Demographic calendar" on the most important events and people in the world of population sciences. In the "Reviews" section we plan to present the most discussed scientific works. There will be a "Discussions" section on the pages of which we invite scientists to argue about unresolved theoretical issues and new methods, and other sections. The first issue of the magazine offers to your attention, dear readers, theoretical and empirical research on relevant subjects, performed by authors with the usage of various methods. The "Teacher's Podium" and "Demographic calendar" are open. We invite researchers from different regions of Russia and other countries to argue, publish their scientific results, share created databases, methods of teaching sciences on the population. We invite readers interested in the issues raised on the pages of our journal to attentive reading and cooperation with editors and authors.I would like to wish all of us a valuable journal and the pleasure of creating and reading the materials in the journal's section "Population and Economics".

The paper addresses the current need to develop a special theory of the category of transportation engineering investigations, which remains underexplored to date. The author argues that the significance of these questions goes beyond the theoretical issues of their concept and classification, or definition of the subject, objects and objectives of investigation, and involves such practical aspects as the lack of adequate methodological resources to support most subcategories of examinations. The concept of transportation engineering investigations is articulated based on the general concepts of engineering and technology capturing the substance of this category of forensic examinations.

Abstract This autobiography of Assefa Woldegebriel, an Ethiopian intellectual who experienced the upheaval of the 1970s, considers how analysis and description of presentations of self can be reconciled with more standard historical texts. Autobiographical narrative is used here to pose questions about representation in historical accounts, the representation of historical consciousness, and the analytical categories that are applied to informants. In standard uses of this material, there are several tacit assumptions made about the structure of the subject. These assumptions involve the application of analytical concepts, including "person," "self," "agent," and "consciousness." This is a personcentered account about the nature of power in different kinds of texts dealing with the same time period. Educated Ethiopians of all ethnicities and nationalities played important parts in pre- and postrevolutionary society. Ethnicity, class, national identity, and education combined in contradictory ways to stamp their experience with significance. In this study, materials from secondary sources are woven into interview material to provide a cultural account of life in Ethiopia during the late 1960s and 1970s. Local government units (LGUs) in Poland are responsible for the implementation of a wide range of public tasks, which should be carried out in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity at lower management levels. This requires LGUs to incur not only current expenditure for the implementation of various tasks, but also investment expenditure —to provide wider access to infrastructure elementsfor local development. The opportunities for finding funds for development activities (identified with investment) are called investment potential in the subject literature. The aim of the paper is to present spetial differences in investment potential of LGUs in Polanddetermined by operating surplus. In the first part, it presents theoretical issues regarding the investment potential of local government units and the measurement meth-ods. The second one is devoted to the analysis of empirical data for the period 2007—2016 provided by Statistics Poland and Ministry of Finance.According to the study, the level of investment potential diversification both in absolute values and per capita is high, although it has decreased in recent years. The greatest variation is observed among gminas. It is worth noting that investment potential hasa fundamental impact on the volume of investment expenditure incurred by local government, which is confirmed by the results of correlation analysis.

The trainee psychiatrist usually looks upon patients' relatives as a nuisance. Later, he realizes that an essential part of psychiatric treatment is to mitigate the effects of the patient's illness on his family, and to protect him from injudicious interventions on the part of his friends. Finally, it may occur to him that the patient's illness might be causally linked with recent or past psychological disturbances of close associates. A review of recent researches into the relationship between illnesses of individual patients and psychological disturbances in the people around them (Post and Wardle, 7) revealed that much of the work was inconclusive, largely because the investigators had been prematurely preoccupied with some theoretical issues of interpersonal psychiatry. It was, therefore, decided to approach the subject from a practical, clinical angle.
