The main objective of this research was to define the potential of Ukrainian popular music as a means of national identity formation on the commercial radio. The methodology of the research included an analysis of scientific data about the main problem of the study to define its conception; a comparative analysis aimed to characterize the Ukrainian and European legislation in media, especially the effective means of supporting national music; interpretation of sociological data allowed to define the role of the radio in the process of national identity formation; monitoring of commercial radio stations uncovered the efficacy of their musical policies. The main conclusions of the study indicate that the Ukrainian radio listeners mainly underestimate the role of domestic culture and music for the process of national identity. It is peculiar to the post totalitarian societies. The attitude of the Ukrainians to the national culture, particularly to music, depends on the attitude to Ukrainian language. The sociolinguistic data demonstrate the correlation between a positive attitude to Ukrainian language and the same attitude to the national culture. People who speak Ukrainian have a higher interest to the national culture and music than people who speak Russian. The monitoring has uncovered that the music in Russian language considerable prevails on the Ukrainian commercial radio stations, but the demand for Ukrainian music is very high. The owners of the Ukrainian media holdings opposed the attempt of the state to increase the quota of national music on the radio, especially in Ukrainian language. At the same time, active communities and Ukrainian musicians continue to defend the right of the Ukrainians to use domestic music in the process of national identity formation.

National culture, especially literature, contains invaluable nation-building potential and is an effective factor in influencing the development of the national identity of the individual and the ethnic group as a whole. In the process of forming literary works, the author’s consciousness and subconscious play an im­portant role, so they are not only one of the best ways of expressing a creative personality and a form of its reaction to events occurring in the outside world, but also one of the most important means of forming the national identity of the recipients. Therefore, such a literary work contains a modus of national identity. The main content of this concept in the literature is revealed in the article. Its theoretical components and their functional aspects in the text are defined and analysed. The modus of national identity is formulated as a way of realising the identity of one with his nation through certain aesthetic elements and structures at all levels of literary work as an artistic system. Such element-dominants are motives, artistic imagery, lyrical character as the main expression of the author’s thoughts, as well as archetypes, symbols and place names.

AbstractThis article examines the significant yet largely overlooked role of the Mzabis, a community from the northern edges of the Algerian desert, in Algerian and Tunisian anticolonialism and nationalism. In so doing, it pursues two aims: first, to shed light on the importance of Tunis to the politicization of the Mzabis in the 1920s and to their induction into local and regional anticolonial and national movements; and second, to highlight the tensions of subsuming regional identities into overarching national identities by focusing on Mzabi political activists’ negotiation of the relationship between the Mzab and Algeria as a national project. The article also explores the spectrum of political possibilities and alternatives envisioned by Mzabis as they participated in religious reform, anticolonial, and nationalist movements. This spectrum, I argue, conveys the fluid relationship between local, national, and regional identities, thus undermining teleological readings of national identity formation.

The conclusion reaffirms the essential role played by cinema generally, and the coming-of-age genre in particular, in the process of national identity formation, because of its effectiveness in facilitating self-recognition and self-experience through a process of triangulation made possible, for the most part, by a dialogue with some of the nation’s most iconic works of literature. This section concludes by point out the danger posed, however, by an observable trend toward generic standardization in New Zealand films motivated by a desire to appeal to an international audience out of consideration for the financial returns expected by funding bodies under current regimes.

<p>With the development of the society and the progress of the time, the pace of China's education reform is more and more steady. The development of the education system is gradually perfect. Music teaching is an indispensable part of the teaching system of colleges and universities, which has a positive impact on the improvement of students' music literacy. However, due to the interference of various factors, the national music culture has not been well inherited and developed, leading to the increasingly westernized development of music in China. This paper analyzes and discusses the relationship between university music teaching and national culture in detail, and puts forward a series of strategies and programs that are conducive to the inheritance of national music culture, which plays a role of reference and reference for university music teaching.</p>

This article is devoted to the 55th anniversary of the beginning of broadcasting radio “Mayak”. Due to a number of circumstances, among which the format of the radio station and the professional staff of its employees played a decisive role, “Mayak”, successfully working and having a large audience in the Soviet period, remained in the post-Soviet period, without losing its importance and weight. Having received in 2000 FM frequency, he was able to compete in the air and became an integral part of the new broadcasting system. The author identifies and analyzes the main innovations that have arisen in the air of this station, subsequently perceived by private commercial radio stations that have appeared in the post-Soviet space. The relevance of the article in determining the role of radio “Mayak” in the development and activities of domestic broadcasting, as well as in increasing the prestige and importance of the work of radio journalists. When writing the article, the author, who worked on the air of “Mayak” for more than ten years, who was both a witness and a participant in a number of innovative projects, used both conversations with veterans of the station and his personal experience, and the empirical method of research of the radio station “Mayak”.
