This study aimed to investigate the extent of practicing counselling techniques based on theoretical background by the social counselors in the Jordanian schools. In addition, the study targeted to investigate the impact of experience, gender and educational qualification variables on the counselling process. The researchers used a questionnaire consists of 37 items in three different components; theoretical background and knowledge, integration and practical skills, and challenges. The researchers examined the reliability and validity of the questionnaire by conducting a pilot study of a small sample that contained 15 social counsellors from the study’s population. The study’s sample consisted of 347 participants from 22 directorates, which are located in the northern, the central and the southern of Jordan. The SPSS statistical package Edition 23rd was used to analyze the quantitative data in this study, and the method of analysis which is used in this analysis is descriptive statistical analysis and One and Two Way ANOVA. The results indicated that there is a lack of knowledge and understanding of counselling theories, the educational level was significant in reflecting the practicing of counselling theories and techniques. In addition, the study indicated that there are some obstacles hindering the social counsellors from practicing professional counselling skills at schools due to lack of workshops in addition to the big gap between theories and practice.

The theoretical background that led to the discovery and excavation of the Late Mesolithic semi-subterranean dwelling at Vuollerim is presented. This is followed by an interpretation of the social function of the house. A comparison with contemporary dwellings is made and the cultural context of the Vuollerim site is explored. The paper ends with some observations and thoughts concerning the impact that the archaeological discovery in Vuollerim had on its present day inhabitants and how it changed their view of themselves, their history and their future.

Adoption of new innovated technologies has become an important requirement for a successful development and implementation of computer systems. Mobile cloud learning is a relatively recent paradigm shift that provides significant promise for meeting future education development and delivery requirements based on mobile cloud computing. The focal point of this study is to develop a conceptual model which highlights the effects of information cultural factors on the adoption of mobile cloud learning in higher education environments. The proposed model is developed based on four identified information cultural variables, namely information integrity, formality, control and pro-activeness. A pilot survey is conducted to test the questionnaire using a small sample of information systems experts and university lecturers. The results show acceptable reliability and validity of the instrument. Finally, conclusions, possible practical contributions of this study and some of the directions for upcoming research are discussed.

AbstractThis study intends to explore the impact of the customer knowledge integration capability, customer knowledge absorptive capability, customer knowledge creation capability, and customer relationship capability on new service development (NSD) performance for Taiwan's hospitals from customer knowledge and customer relationship perspectives. We employ the self-administered mail survey to collect research data and select self-pay medical service managers or top managers as key informants. After testing the fitness of sample representativeness, non-response error, common method variance, reliability, and validity, we adopt structure equation model to test the research model. Empirical results indicate the customer knowledge absorptive capability of a hospital is positively associated with NSD performance, and the customer knowledge integration capability of a hospital fully mediates the relationship between customer knowledge absorptive capability and NSD performance. However, customer relationship capability and customer knowledge absorptive capability both have positive influence on customer knowledge creation capability. Managerial and theoretical implications are discussed.

The first stream of economic studies on public policy responses during the COVID-19 pandemic focused on the stringency, the effectiveness, and the impact of the countries’ interventions and paid rather little attention to the corresponding means used to support them. The present paper scrutinizes the lockdown measures and, particularly, examines the optimality of the lockdown fines imposed by countries worldwide towards ensuring citizens’ compliance. Initially, a triad of fine stringency indicators are compiled, and the stringency of fines is evaluated in a comparative context, among the countries considered. Consequently, the fine stringency is incorporated into a regression analysis with various epidemiological, socioeconomic, and policy factors to reveal any drivers of fine variability. Finally, theoretical approaches behind fine optimality are capitalized and real data are used towards estimating the optimal fine for each country considered. The objectives of the paper are, first, to check for any drivers of fine stringency around the world and, second, to develop and test a formula that could be used in order to assist policy makers to formulate evidence-based fines for confronting the pandemic. The findings of the paper highlight that fines do not seem to have been imposed with any sound economic reasoning and the majority of countries considered imposed larger real fines, compared to the optimal ones, to support the lockdowns. The paper stresses the need for the imposition of science-based fines that reflect the social cost of non-compliance with the lockdown measures.

The article summarizes the theoretical approaches to the definition of the category of social capital and considers the impact of modern changes on its formation and reproduction. It is substantiated that the holistic theory of social capital is not complete, which actualizes the research on deepening the essence of the definition of the category of social capital and systematizing the features of its formation. The evolution of the concept of social capital, modern approaches to the study and basic components of this type of capital are analyzed. It is established that initially social capital was considered as a special manifestation of relations between people, which contributes to the solution of common problems, including determined by the established ties between people. The components of the concept of "social capital" - trust, connections and norms, as well as considered as a certain resource available to man. It is argued that in the current environment, social capital includes the following elements - obligations and expectations, which depend on the reliability of the social environment; the ability of the social structure to transmit information flows and norms, which are accompanied by sanctions. Social capital involves the benefit of its various manifestations, or the return on efforts to maintain interpersonal relationships. It is established that scientific research is underway to develop an integrated indicator that has contributed to a comprehensive and adequate assessment of the level of development of social capital, in particular at the macro level. The versatility of the concept of social capital is proved, which requires for its study to adhere to an interdisciplinary scientific approach and take into account numerous factors of external and internal environment of its formation. The positions of scientists who prove the positive impact of social capital on various result indicators, in particular the growth of any economic system, are presented. The definitions of the category of social capital proposed by Ukrainian researchers are systematized and consensus is highlighted in the understanding of it as a resource based on stable social ties and used to generate additional income. The author's definition of understanding the category of social capital is proposed, which is considered on the basis of relationships based on trust and mutual obligations not directly related to the main activities of economic agents, and contribute to the formation and strengthening of their competitive advantages. The factors that influence the development of social capital and adjust its interpretation accordingly are systematized. Keywords: social capital, trust, relationships, social ties.

PurposeThere are several studies about the adoption of e-commerce for small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) that separately, and in a dispersed manner, examine different theoretical approaches. The purpose of this paper is to unify a set of variables to form an integrated model of measurement of the adoption of e-commerce for SMEs.Design/methodology/discussionBased on an extensive review of empirical studies focused on the adoption of e-commerce in SMEs, a grouped and integrated model of e-commerce among SMEs was constructed. It was built upon the methodology of psychometrics and was subsequently statistically tested for reliability and validity. A broad study has not been carried out. Thus, the small sample size does not allow the estimation of this model’s predictability.FindingsThis paper proposes a final model, comprising 14 variables (82 items), grouping the significant effects of e-commerce adoption.Originality/valueThis tool is feasible, offering an initial model enabling detailed examination of variables affecting the adoption of e-commerce in SMEs. It contributes significantly to the development of this line of research.
