Aim. To reveal the rate and severity of clinical manifestations of common dental diseases and dentofacial anomalies in professional athletes Methods. The effect of intense physical exertion and overtraining syndrome on the state of the organs and tissues of the dental system were examined in 200 professional athletes aged 1825 years between 2014 and 2016. Five groups where each has the same number of athletes (n=40) included: team sport athletes (volleyball, handball), martial arts athletes (wrestling, boxing), gymnasts, swimmers, athletes. The control group consisted of 40 individuals who were not professionally involved in sports. The state of the oral cavity, in particular periodontal tissues, was judged by changes in the following indicators: prevalence of dentofacial anomalies, the incidence of dental caries, state of the oral cavity hygienic using by simplified oral hygiene index (OHI-S) ( Green J.С., Vermillion J.R., 1963), degree of gums bleeding by using the MuhlemannCowell bleeding index, degrees of severity of periodontopathy by using the papillary-marginal alveolar index (RMA) [Massler, Schour (1949) in Parma modification (1960)]. Results. According to the values of the simplified oral hygiene index the worst state of the oral cavity hygienic was in wrestlers (2.120.022 points) and boxers (2.030.029) compared to the control group (1.620.026, p=0.049 and p=0.001, respectively). Catarrhal gingivitis and generalized chronic periodontitis are most often diagnosed in the groups of wrestling (82.56.01%), gymnastics (77.56.60%), boxing (70.07.25%) and swimming (70.07.25%). Dentoalveolar anomalies were more often detected in boxers (77.5% of cases, p=0.001) and in gymnasts (34.0%, p=0.365) compared to the control group. In these groups, diastema was also more often diagnosed. Conclusion. Periodontal inflammation indicators were higher in wrestlers and gymnasts groups compared to the dental status of all other groups of athletes; caries and maximum level of dental anomalies are more common for boxers.

In recent decades, both in the world and in our country, thyroid gland diseases are not only widespread, but also have a tendency to constant growth. Currently, more attention is paid to diseases of the thyroid gland that are associated with endemic foci of iodine defi ciency in soil and water. The aim of the study – to investigate the state of periodontal tissues in individuals with primary hypothyroidism.Materials and Methods. We conducted a survey of 86 people with primary hypothyroidism, 16 of them with manifestation and 70 with subclinical forms. A comparison group was 45 people without thyroid gland diseases. Index assessment of periodontal tissues included the defi nition of a simplifi ed oral hygiene index of the oral cavity of the Green-Vermillion (Oral Hygiene Index-Simlifi ed, Green-Vermillion, 1964), the degree of gingival infl ammation was determined by Parma (C. Parma, 1960, Papillary-Marginal Alveolar Index)), the state of periodontal tissues in the complex periodontal index (KPI) (1987), destructive changes in the bone tissue of the alveolar appendix were determined by the Fux index. Results and Discussion. The article presents the results of the index estimation of periodontal tissues in individuals with primary hypothyroidism. An analysis of the conducted index evaluation found that they had a poor level of hygienic state of the oral cavity. This was manifested by the development of infl ammatory and, to a lesser extent, infl ammatory and dystrophic lesions of periodontal tissues, as evidenced by papillarymarginalalveolar (PMA) and complex periodontal indices (KPI).Conclusions. Even more signifi cant changes in these indicators were found in individuals with a manifestation of hypothyroidism. So, we can conclude that in persons with primary hypothyroidism metabolic processes ofthe organism are violated, which leads through a number of pathophysiological changes to the activity of parodontopathogenic microfl ora and the development of infl ammatory and infl ammatory and dystrophic periodontal diseases.

Aim. Assessment of organs and tissues of oral cavity of professional athletes who use protective mouth guards. Methods. Dental examination of 340 professional athletes of Olympic reserve at the age of 18 to 32 years with a duration of sport experience of 9-13 years was performed. We investigated the effect of mouth guards on the condition of the marginal periodontium and microbial contamination. Changes in periodontal tissues were diagnosed by means of traditional methods of inspection, probing of the periodontal grooves, recesses, as well as determining tooth mobility. The control group included 20 athletes not using athletic mouth guards during training. Results. High prevalence of caries (in average, in all examined athletes the rate of carious teeth reaches 32.90%) and fairly high prevalence of severe forms of periodontal diseases in those patients were revealed. Evaluation of the structure of the index of teeth with decay and fillings and removed teeth showed major defects in timely dental care organization for professional boxers: their ratio of filled teeth does not exceed 40.36% in average. A significant number of extracted teeth (more than 23%) indicates that the examined patients require dental orthopaedic care. 30 examined athletes wearing protective mouth guards had the strains of P. gingivalis, A. Actinomycetemcomitans and P. oralis revealed. Conclusion. The study of dental status of professional athletes using protective mouth guards, showed high prevalence of inflammatory periodontal diseases and low level of hygienic state of oral cavity.

Aim. Evaluation of dental status in patients with inflammatory periodontal diseases. Methods. The study of dental status was performed with the use of clinical and historical data from 269 patients with inflammatory periodontal diseases at the age of 18-65 years. Among examined patients there were 75 (27.9%) people with gingivitis, 54 (20.1%) with mild periodontitis, 66 (24.5%) with moderate and 74 (27.5%) with severe periodontitis. Control group consisted of practically healthy donors at the age of 18-52 years (40 people) with sanitized oral cavity. Results. From history and interviewing it was found that 72% of the surveyed patients brush their teeth twice a day, 24% - once a day and 4% of patients do not brush their teeth. Family history of periodontal diseases among parents was recorded by 86% of participants. Dental status was characterized by the increase of the values of all dental indices with increasing disease severity regardless of gender. Need for correction of the depth of the vestibule, lips, cords, and bridles was identified in 51.7% of cases in patients with gingivitis and in 96.6% of cases of periodontal diseases. With increasing severity of periodontitis index (sum) of teeth with decay and fillings and removed teeth was increased by 1.5 times in gingivitis, by 2.2 times in mild periodontitis, by 2.6 times in moderate and by 2.9 times in severe periodontitis compared to control group. Partial adentia in gingivitis is 3 times more prevalent in males than in females and in severe periodontitis is 1.6 times more prevalent in females than in males. Conclusion. Dental status of the patients with inflammatory periodontal diseases was characterized by increased values of all dental indices compared to control group that demonstrates typical course of inflammatory periodontal diseases and decrease of local immunologic resistance of oral cavity and the organism in total; timely correction of local factors (local trauma), anatomical and topographical features of dentofacial system and status of oral soft tissues allows prevention of pathologic processes in periodontal tissues.

Generalized periodontitis is the most common form of periodontal pathology, especially in the second half of life. Nowadays, the problem of periodontal disease is relevant due to its high prevalence, tendency to progression, multifaceted influence on the dentoalveolar system and the whole organism as well as uncertain treatment. Therefore, there is a need to find optimal ways of prevention and treatment of this disease. Close relationships between periodontal pathology and systemic diseases, such as hypertension, which affects every 2nd-3rd adult were determined. The objective of the research was to determine the status of oral cavity hygiene in patients with generalized periodontitis of II degree and stage II hypertension.Materials and methods. The study included 30 patients with generalized periodontitis of II degree and stage II hypertension being treated in the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Clinical Cardiology Dispensary; the average age ranged from 35 to 54 years (the main group). The control group included 10 patients of the same age without generalized periodontitis and somatic pathology .The status of oral cavity hygiene was determined using the Green Vermillion index. The diagnosis of periodontal disease was made on the basis of the classification proposed by M.F. Danilevskyi. The obtained results were subjected to variation-statistical analysis using statistical package “Stat Soft 6.0”; classical methods of variational statistics were applied; mean values and their reliability were evaluated.Results. The results of examination showed poor oral hygiene in almost all patients. The analysis of hygienic indices showed the following results: in patients of the main group, the Green Vermillion index was 1.99 ± 0.13 points (p<0.001) which corresponds to unsatisfactory level of oral hygiene. In patients of the control group, this index was 1.10 ± 0.17 points which corresponds to satisfactory level of oral hygiene. According to the index, 9 (30.0%) patients of the main group had satisfactory oral hygiene, 12 (40.0%) patients had poor oral hygiene, and in 9 (30.0%) patients, poor oral hygiene was observed. In the control group, 2 (20.0%) patients had good oral hygiene, 6 (60.0%) patients had satisfactory oral hygiene and in 2 (20.0%) patients, unsatisfactory oral hygiene was observed. There were no patients with poor oral hygiene. The analysis of the indicators of the Green Vermillion index showed that in case of the pathological process exacerbation the oral hygiene status in patients deteriorated.Conclusions. The level of oral hygiene in patients of both groups was low due to incorrect selection of personal hygiene products or their untimely replacement. In patients with generalized periodontitis of II degree and stage II hypertension, the level of oral hygiene was lower than in somatically healthy persons: the worse status of oral cavity hygiene – the more pronounced changes in the periodontal tissues. We can suppose that high blood pressure affects the status of the oral cavity, creates a higher risk and exacerbates the periodontal diseases.

Subject. In the modern world, the prevalence of cancer is growing every year, in this regard, this pathology is one of the most pressing problems in medicine. There is no doubt that malignant neoplasms have a complex interaction with the body. The General mechanisms of occurrence and progression of the tumor process are intensively studied, and to date, a huge amount of material on molecular and clinical Oncology has been accumulated, it is used in related disciplines. The most important sections of dentistry are the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the mucous membrane. Often, clinical manifestations in the oral cavity are one of the first symptoms indicating a General somatic disease. This article covers the study of the dental status of patients with different localizations of cancer. Objective ― to study the incidence of dental diseases of patients with cancer. Methodology. To conduct a study medical examination of patients with different localizations of cancer was held to determine dental: the definition of DMF-Index, PMA-index, Parodontal Index, and the condition of the mucous membrane of the oral cavity and periodontal tissues. Cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and radiation therapy, patients who refused to participate in the survey were excluded from the survey. Results. The study included 526 patients. The predominance of certain types of dental diseases among patients with a particular cancer pathology was revealed. Conclusions. Our study showed that all patients had decompensated forms of caries. The most common dental diseases combined with cancer are hyperplasia filiform papillae (K14.3), the "geographic" language (K14.1). Periodontal disease occurred in 69,5 % of cases among cancer patients.

Aim. Evaluation of the effective preventive methods of dental caries in children with dentoalveolar anomalies. Methods. Orthodontic treatment was received by 50 children aged 12-14 years with dentoalveolar anomalies who were treated by an orthodontist using ligature bracket and who had a compensated form of dental caries before the beginning of the hardware treatment. In the first group of children (control, 25 subjects) professional oral hygiene twice a year was followed by the coating of all teeth with fluoride. Children of the second group (25 subjects) after professional oral hygiene twice a year had their teeth covered with tooth enamel around brackets with Clinpro XT Varnish (3M ESPE) material containing fluorine, calcium and phosphate compounds. Dental examination every three months included assessment of oral hygiene and the state of the gums, the presence of carious defects, fillings and removed teeth, followed by the calculation of the main dental indices. Results. On the basis of studies of the dental status in children undergoing orthodontic treatment using brackets, the main dental indices such as DCF (decay/missing/filled), complex periodontal index, papillary-marginal-alveolar index were characterized at the stages of treatment. The analysis of the recorded values was performed in the comparison groups for each research method and the main statistically significant differences were identified. The study revealed that children from group 2 had positive dynamics of the state of periodontium within 18 months: the value of papillary-marginal-alveolar index among children from group 2 decreased by 5.4 times, the value of complex periodontal index decreased by 3.5 times. Children from group 2 had a significantly lower incidence of caries compared to the control group after 18 months of remineralizing therapy: the increase of complex periodontal index among children receiving orthodontic treatment with Clinpro XT Varnish coverage twice a year was only 1.42±0.16, incidence of caries of teeth surface reduced by 55%. Conclusion. On the basis of these studies, a comparative characteristics of the dental indices was performed at the stages of treatment using the brackets, depending on the used primary preventive measures; dental status of children at the stages of orthodontic treatment have their features: special oral hygiene tools should be guided by hygiene indices and complemented by remineralizing drugs.

Introduction. The study of the main dental statuses begins with the determination of indicators of the state of quality of oral hygiene and periodontal tissues. Given these factors, dentists should choose the most suitable for use in the appropriate age-sex and professional groups, taking into account the existing harmful factors of the external and internal environment, and occupational hazards. The objective was to determine the hygienic and dental status in different population groups by studying the parameters of the main dental diseases and to draw a parallel between them and the level of hygienic knowledge in these groups, for the correction of hygiene and preventive measures as the main way to prevent these diseases. Methods and materials. The study involved 307 people who were not burdened with general somatic pathology, of which 6 age groups were formed. Dental status was determined using the Green-Vermillion hygiene index, PMA and Mühlemann and Son periodontal indices. In order to study the level of hygienic knowledge and skills of the population, a survey was conducted using a Questionnaire and its assessment by the index of hygienic knowledge of S. B. Ulitovskiy.Results. As a result of the study, a decrease in the Green – Vermillion index was found in group 1 from (2.13±0.38) to (1.07±0.27), in group 5 – from (2.83±0.14) to (0.75±0.09); in group 6, the index at the beginning of the study was (3.47±0.12), and by the end, it decreased to (1.93±0.05), which reflects an increase in the cleansing efficiency in various groups of the population. The positive dynamics of the anti-inflammatory efficiency was observed in the 1st group from (16.81±3.52) to (8.15±1.64) %; in the 5th group, indicators has decreased by 3 times, from (18.86±0.65) to (6.53±0.77) %, in the 6th group – from (19.24±0.43) to (7.01±1.19) %. As a result of the study, it was found that the state of periodontal tissues in the 6th group according to the index of bleeding Mühlemann and Son was (9.21±2.33) %, and by the end of the study reached (5.49±1.63) %, in the 5th group – from (11.29±1.98) to (5.31±1.62) %; in the 2nd group, the indicators for the index of bleeding decreased from (11.67±0.69) to (5.00±0.28) %. In the groups, there was a decrease in the survival of hygienic knowledge, which determined the need for dental education among the population in different age groups.Conclusion. Application of individual hygienic programs of prevention of dental diseases on the basis of consistently performed hygienic procedures using various means of oral hygiene confirms the effectiveness of the activities taking into account personal hygiene indicators and dental status.Authors declare no conflict of interest. The authors confirm that they respect the rights of the people participated in the study, including obtaining informed consent when it is necessary, and the rules of treatment of animals when they are used in the study. The susceptibility to the development and progression of inflammatory periodontal diseases, which depends on genetic and external factors (smoking, stress, oral hygiene), varies widely. In the development of these diseases, an important role is played not only by the presence of periodontal pathogenic microorganisms, but also by the presence of congenital or acquired immunodeficiency, immunoregulatory defects. The immune system plays a key role in the physiological and pathological processes of periodontal tissues. In this regard, IL17, produced by CD4+ Th cells, which has both Pro-inflammatory and protective activity, is of particular interest in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. The aim of study was to identify the relationship between polymorphic loci of the IL-17A (rs2275913) and MMP-1 (rs1799750) genes and clinical manifestations of chronic periodontitis in petrochemical workers. Dental examination was performed in 92 ethylene oxide production workers with chronic periodontitis and 74 patients with chronic periodontitis who did not come into contact with chemical factors (control group). Genotyping of polymorphisms rs2275913 of the IL17A gene and rs1799750 of the MMP1 gene was performed by allele-specific real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Hygienic assessment of the degree of air pollution of the working area with harmful substances was carried out by gas chromatography according to the guidelines for the determination of harmful substances in the air № 5098-89, № 3119-84. When comparing the results of studies of both groups, there were no statistically significant differences in the frequency distributions of allelic variants and genotypes of the IL-17A and MMP-1 genes. The AA/AG genotypes of the IL-17A gene were associated with an increased risk of severe disease compared to the GG genotype in workers in the main group (OR=6.1; 95% CI 1.33-28.5; p=0.021) and in the control group (OR=7.26; 95% CI 1.34-39.25; p=0.016). Carriers of the A allele in the control group increased the risk of severe chronic periodontitis by 2.4 times compared to carriers of the G allele (OR=2.41; 95% CI 1.19-4.87; p=0.014). During the dental examination of employees of the ethylene oxide plant, the clinical course of periodontal diseases was more severe in comparison with the control group, and the number of patients with severe periodontitis was twice as high. It was found that the AA/AG genotypes of the IL-17A gene and the carrier of the A allele are associated with increased susceptibility to the development of severe chronic periodontitis. The association between the MMP-1 gene polymorphism and the risk of severe forms of chronic periodontitis has not been established. A risk factor for the development of inflammatory periodontal diseases in employees of the petrochemical complex is a complex of harmful production factors.

With dental interventions, bacteremia often develops, which is called transient. Its essence is that after laziness of teeth and dental deposits, curettage, endodontic treatment, a microflora appears in the blood, which is far from indifferent to patients, especially those suffering from diseases of the heart, blood vessels, and kidneys. According to Li I terature, transient bacteremia often occurs during interventions in patients with periodontal inflammation. At the same time, a number of authors believe that the frequency of bacteremia and its severity are influenced not only by the state of the periodontal tissues, but also by the volume of intervention.
