Introduction: Tidal energy is evidencing interest worldwide because it can be accurately estimated due to the cyclical behavior of the tides. This energy can be extracted from differences in sea level height through the use of gates and turbines of a reservoir (tidal power plant), or extracted from tidal currents through a grid of reversible horizontal axis microturbines as proposed in this study. Thus, the Colombian Pacific region has the opportunity to implement microturbines in strategic areas with the challenge of optimizing them to extract energy with local tidal heights up to 4 m and current velocities up to 1.5 m/s. Objective: Calculate the energy potentials from tidal currents in the central zone of the Colombian Pacific coast obtained through hydrodynamic modeling (Delft3D) validated it with in situ information. Methodology: The present study starts from level 1 of technological development (Technology Readiness Levels, TRL) till reaching the TRL 2. Then, the research performed a documentary review of national and international experiences related to tidal energy, evidencing the great opportunity that Colombia has to take advantage of this type of energy and join to the growing international interest in the development of clean and renewable energies. In addition, this study characterized the tidal heights and did calculations of energy potentials from tidal currents in the Colombian Pacific derived from hydrodynamic modeling (Delft3D) validated with measured in situ data. The results of this study encourage the application of these technologies in Colombia and represents a contribution to the fulfillment of the UN sustainable development objectives (Affordable and non-polluting energy, SDG 7). Results: From the 4 analysis points, the point B (Buenaventura) registered the highest accumulated potential for electricity generation per month (31,546.56 Wh / month). The maximum tidal heights at points A, B, C and D during 2018 were 1.88 m. Furthermore, the mean velocity range at points A, B, C and D was 0.28 m/s to 0.54 m/s, and the maximum velocity for these points were 0.54 m/s, 0.49 m/s, 0.31 m/s and 0.28 m/s respectively. Then, by means of 5 tidal microturbines with a reversible horizontal axis of 1 m sweep area for the point of highest potential (B), it is possible to generate electrical energy to meet the electrical consumption of a house, and with 544 microturbines the consumption of 99 houses. The tidal farm (544 microturbines) would require an area of 2079.36 m2 (e.g. 45.6 m x 45.6 m) and an average depth of 5 m; these requirements are feasible to be met because of the study area characteristics. Conclusions: This research determined the tidal energy potential in the central zone of the Colombian Pacific for 4 points of interest, (A, B, C and D) and the highest potentials were found in points A and B located in Bahía Málaga and Buenaventura respectively. In addition, the minimum velocities, the duration of these and the diurnal tidal regime (12 h) were analyzed, and it was found that points A and B showed the lowest times (1 h and 2 h) of minimum velocity, evidencing a capacity of daily electricity generation of 22 h and 20 h respectively. In consideration of the obtained results, this research shows the opportunity to perform studies for promoting the development of reversible horizontal-axis microturbines for the exploitation of tidal energy. The generated energy could be supplied to communities with access difficulties to the electricity distribution network, what would reduce poverty and the emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) due to the burning of fossil and plant-based fuels (firewood).   Conclusions: It was determined that the tidal energy potential in the central zone of the Colombian Pacific for 4 points of interest, (A, B, C and D) and the highest potentials were found in points A and B located in Bahía Málaga and Buenaventura respectively. In consideration of the results obtained, this research shows the opportunity performe studies for promoting the development of microturbines for electricity generation from tidal energy. The generated energy would supply to communities with difficulties in accessing the networks of electricity distribution, thus reducing poverty and the emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) due to the burning of fossil fuels and of vegetable origin (firewood).

The main aim of this paper was to classify and to analyze the expeditious resource assessment procedure to help energy planners and system designers dealing with tides and tidal currents. Depending on the geographical features of the site to be evaluated, this paper reported the easiest methods to adopt for later working plans, crucial for preliminary considerations but to be supported by in situ measurements and by a more complex and detailed modelling. While tide trends are predictable by using Laplace equations and Fourier series, tidal currents velocities prediction is not easy, requiring suitable methods or hydraulic applications. Natural and artificial sites were analyzed and the best method for each type of them was presented. The latter together highlighting the minimum set of required information was discussed and provided as a toolkit for assessing tides and tidal current energy potential.

MixAR, a full-stack system capable of providing visualization of virtual reconstructions seamlessly integrated in the real scene (e.g. upon ruins), with the possibility of being freely explored by visitors, in situ, is presented in this article. In addition to its ability to operate with several tracking approaches to be able to deal with a wide variety of environmental conditions, MixAR system also implements an extended environment feature that provides visitors with an insight on surrounding points-of-interest for visitation during mixed reality experiences (positional rough tracking). A procedural modelling tool mainstreams augmentation models production. Tests carried out with participants to ascertain comfort, satisfaction and presence/immersion based on an in-field MR experience and respective results are also presented. Ease to adapt to the experience, desire to see the system in museums and a raised curiosity and motivation contributed as positive points for evaluation. In what regards to sickness and comfort, the lowest number of complaints seems to be satisfactory. Models' illumination/re-lightning must be addressed in the future to improve the user's engagement with the experiences provided by the MixAR system.

Coral reefs are very important and highly biodiverse ecosystems that are exposed to various stressors, including biological ones, such as parasitism and corallivory – the direct consumption of coral tissue by a predator. Knowledge on the effects of corallivory on the coral reefs in the Colombian Pacific is poor. Therefore a study was set up to quantify the abundance of and the corallivory rate by the snail Jenneria pustulata in La Azufrada and Playa Blanca coral reefs (Gorgona Island, Colombia). Snails were manually sampled from the underside of Pocillopora sp. colonies and measured in situ to determine their size structure for each reef. To measure possible damage caused by corallivory, several snails were kept under controlled laboratory conditions for 24 h. Snail sizes and corallivory varied significantly between reefs (P=0.0001; P«0.001). Snails from Playa Blanca were larger than snails from La Azufrada, while corallivory was higher in La Azufrada than in Playa Blanca. Although corallivory rates by J. pustulata are smaller than rates reported for other predators in different coral species, it is recommended to continue this kind of investigations in order to increase the knowledge on biological dynamics of this species and to understand how they affect the reefs at Gorgona Island.

In some places in the village of Bedono Demak Regency there is a location with high tidal current velocity, the coordinates of the Location is 6 ° 55'29.0 "S 110 ° 29'11.4" E. In this study estimated the amount of electric power that can be generated from tidal currents in the village Bedono. Estimates are made by modeling the location and the Darrieus turbine using the CFD (Computating Fluid Dinamyc) Software. From the research that has been done to get the results of electric power that can be produced in the village Bedono highest at 14-16 times 3469.413W and lowest 39.002W at 22-24 hours according to the CFD is the highest active power occurred at 14-16 at 3197.064W and the lowest 35.941W at 22-24 hours.

El objetivo del presente trabajo es identificar y valorar los puntos de interés didáctico turístico existentes en Águilas. En cuanto a la metodología, mediante un diseño observacional, se ha utilizado el método cualitativo a través de una hoja de observación, para valorar diversos factores asociados a los puntos de interés. La muestra está compuesta por 59 bienes patrimoniales, y para el análisis de los datos se ha realizado una estadística descriptiva de frecuencias y porcentajes.  En base a los resultados obtenidos, se puede concluir que Águilas posee al menos 59 puntos de interés, éstos se encuentran en un estado de conservación principalmente desfavorable, la mayoría puede visitarse sin inconvenientes, un importante porcentaje no es accesible para personas con movilidad reducida y, además, la mayoría no posee información “in situ”. A partir de estos datos se pueden iniciar y valorar diversas propuestas para facilitar el acercamiento del patrimonio a los ciudadanos. The aim of this project is to identify and assess every existent didactic point of interest in Águilas. Regarding the methodology, using an observational design, a qualitative method through an observation sheet has been employed; in order to assess different factors associated to these points of interest. The sample is made of 59 heritage assets and, for the data analysis, a descriptive statistics of frequency and percentages were created. According to the results, it can be concluded that Águilas has at least 59 points of interest, these are now in an unfavorable condition, and although the majority of them can be visited without any inconvenient, a significant percentage is not accessible to people with reduced mobility and moreover, the majority of them does not have on-site information. From this data we can start and assess several proposals in order to bring this heritage closer to the citizens

Malpelo Island forms the insular ecoregion of the Colombian Pacific, and is composed by a mosaic of terrestrial ecosystems, and unique coastal and shallow subtidal systems. Considering its insular nature, the oceanographic features of this locality are expected to be related with the physical and chemical dynamics of the Eastern Tropical Pacific (ETP) and be modulated by the regional dynamic of the Colombian Pacific Oceanic Basin (COPC in Spanish). In this work, in situ data was used to describe the thermohaline conditions in the water column in Malpelo Island and identify key water mass during the two contrasting hydro-meteorological periods of the COPC. Furthermore, we analyzed the thermal and haline variability in the COPC and defined the surface geostrophic flow from in situ oceanographic data during the same time in order to evaluate its effect on the oceanographic conditions in the pelagic environment off Malpelo Island.

Increased generation of methane (CH4) from municipal solid wastes (MSW) alarms the world to take proper initiative for the sustainable management of MSW, because it is 34 times stronger than carbon dioxide (CO2). Mounting land scarcity issue around the world brands the waste to energy (WtE) strategy for MSW management in urban areas as a promising option, because WtE not only reduces the land pressure problem, but also generates electricity, heat, and green jobs. The goal of this study is to evaluate the renewable electricity generation potential and associated carbon reduction of MSW management in Bangladesh using WtE strategies. The study is conducted in two major cities of Bangladesh: Dhaka and Chittagong. Six different WtE scenarios are evaluated consisting of mixed MSW incineration and landfill gas (LFG) recovery system. Energy potential of different WtE strategy is assessed using standard energy conversion model and subsequent GHGs emissions models. Scenario A1results in highest economic and energy potential and net negative GHGs emission. Sensitivity analysis by varying MSW moisture content reveals higher energy potential and less GHGs emissions from MSW possessing low moisture content. The study proposes mixed MSW incineration that could be a potential WtE strategy for renewable electricity generation in Bangladesh.
