<p>For nearly sixty years Murakami Katsumi (b. 1927) has been a practitioner of Okinawa Karatedo and martial arts. He also studied Chinese martial arts under Sato Kinbei (b. 1926). Yet despite his advanced years, he still moves like a much younger man, a tribute to his diligence in pursuing martial arts as both a physical, mental, and spiritual discipline. This article is excerpted from his book <em>Karate no Kokoro to Waza</em> (<em>The Spirit and Techniques of Karate</em>) and details the exercises he has created to prepare the body for martial art training and extending one’s life through the practice of good health. All the exercises demonstrated in this article are performed by the original author.</p>

Preserving, maintaining and teaching traditional martial arts are very important activities in social life. That helps preserve national culture, exercise and self-defense for practitioners. However, traditional martial arts have many different postures and activities of the body and body parts are diverse. The problem of estimating the actions of the human body still has many challenges, such as accuracy, obscurity, etc. In this paper, we survey several strong studies in the recent years for 3-D human pose estimation. Statistical tables have been compiled for years, typical results of these studies on the Human 3.6m dataset have been summarized. We also present a comparative study for 3-D human pose estimation based on the method that uses a single image. This study based on the methods that use the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for 2-D pose estimation, and then using 3-D pose library for mapping the 2-D results into the 3-D space. The CNNs model is trained on the benchmark datasets as MSCOCO Keypoints Challenge dataset [1], Human 3.6m [2], MPII dataset [3], LSP [4], [5], etc. We final publish the dataset of Vietnamese's traditional martial arts in Binh Dinh province for evaluating the 3-D human pose estimation. There are numerous ways to theorise about elements of civilisations and societies known as ‘body’, ‘movement’, or ‘physical’ cultures. Inspired by the late Henning Eichberg’s notions of multiple and continually shifting body cultures, this article explores his constant comparative (trialectic) approach via the Mexican martial art, exercise, and human development philosophy—Xilam. Situating Xilam within its historical and political context and within a triad of Mesoamerican, native, and modern martial arts, combat sports, and other physical cultures, I map this complexity through Eichberg’s triadic model of achievement, fitness, and experience sports. I then focus my analysis on the aspects of movement in space as seen in my ethnographic fieldwork in one branch of the Xilam school. Using a bare studio as the setting and my body as principle instrument, I provide an impressionist portrait of what it is like to train in Xilam within a communal dance hall (space) and typical class session of two hours (time) and to form and express warrior identity from it. This article displays the techniques; gestures and bodily symbols that encapsulate the essence of the Xilam body culture, calling for a way to theorise from not just from and on the body but also across body cultures.

In this globalization era, health is the most important thing to be able to run various activities. Without good health, this will hinder many activities. Diabetes mellitus is one of the diseases caused by unhealty lifestyle.There are many treatments that can be done to prevent the occurrence of diabetes. The treatments are giving the insulin and also checking the glucose rate to the patients.Checking the glucose rate needs the tools which is safety to the body. This research want to develop non invasive tool which is safety and do not injure the patient. The purpose of this research is also finding the best model which derived from Linear, Quadratic, and Cubic Spline Regression. Some respondents were taking to get the glucose measuring by invasive and non invasive tools. It could be seen clearly that Spline Linear Regression was the best model than Quadratic and Cubic Spline Regression. It had 70% and 33.939 for R2 and RMSEP respectively.

Kyokushin karate in South Kalimantan is one of the martial arts that still applies a full contact fighting system. The kyokushin karate practitioners in South Kalimantan do not have their own practice sites, and are forced to rent a place to practice. The kyokushin karate dojo in South Kalimantan aims to create a special training ground for practitioners of kyokushin karate who have values from the kyokushin philosophy itself, so that they understand that the art of fighting is only a tool to perfect the body and soul, and can be a strong foundation for human development completely. The philosophy of Kyokushin as a concept will be combined with linguistic methods as the goal of solving problems in the design of this dojo.

The martial art of silat in Minangkabau, which is usually called silek, has its own uniqueness in terms of terms and movements. Silek in Minangkabau is a legacy from the Minangkabau ancestors that still exists and develops today. The requirements that must be possessed in this silat include cloth, knives, sewing needles, mirrors, rice and money that have meaning in this silat tradition. In addition, there are other elements in these martial arts which also have meaning in terms of movement, clothing and place of implementation. This study focuses on the meaning of the terms and movements used in the silek of Tuo gunuong in Kubu Gadang village. The informants in this study are traditional elders and people who still practice silat as a martial art and understand the terms and meanings of the movement.

Indeed, it is in these unique responses that most martial arts distinguish themselves. However, this paper examines the role of the aggressor during training; specifically, in the martial art of Aikido and draws an analogy between the role of an aggressor during Aikido practice and the actions of a member of the loyal opposition in a democracy. A commitment to a set of rules that govern and protect the participants and a commitment to maintain a rich, creative tension mark both the vibrant interactions of an Aikido dojo and democratic life in a multicultural society.</span></span></span></p>

This essay articulates a South Asian understanding of embodied psychophysical practices and processes with a specific focus on Kerala, India. In addition to consulting relevant Indian texts and contemporary scholarly accounts, it is based upon extensive ethnographic research and practice conducted with actors, dancers, yoga practitioners, and martial artists in Kerala between 1976 and 2003. During 2003 the author conducted extensive interviews with kutiyattam and kathakali actors about how they understand, talk about, and teach acting within their lineages. Phillip Zarrilli is Artistic Director of The Llanarth Group, and is internationally known for training actors in psychophysical processes using Asian martial arts and yoga. He lived in Kerala, India, for seven years between 1976 and 1989 while training in kalarippayattu and kathakali dance-drama. His books include Psychophysical Acting: an Intercultural Approach after Stanislavski, Kathakali Dance-Drama: Where Gods and Demons Come to Play, and When the Body Becomes All Eyes. He is Professor of Performance Practice at Exeter University.

The central aim of Tantric practice in Tibetan Buddhism is enlightenment, but the same techniques are also used to attain good health and a long life. The image of the Tantric deity and the surrounding mandala enables the imaginative recreation of a universe in which body-mind and wider environment are connected. Along with mantra recitation, secret breathing techniques, sometimes sexualized visualizations, and various movements and postures, this is understood to help the person reabsorb various kinds of life-essence that have been lost to the environment. Technique and culture are intertwined, since the practices are based on a ‘shamanic’ world-view in which life-essence may be lost to external forces, and the body-mind complex restored to good health and functioning through their recovery.
