Background: Thyroid gland is the most vital endocrine organ which plays a major role in growth, development, metabolism and function of almost every organ of our body. Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can result in menstrual irregularities. Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (AUB) is one of the most common, yet complicated clinical presentation. It occurs in 10-20% of women between 15-50 years of age. Timely detection of thyroid dysfunction in patients presenting with AUB and their proper management can prevent unnecessary surgical interventions. This study was done to analyze the prevalence of thyroid dysfunction in patients with AUB and also to look for different menstrual patterns associated with thyroid dysfunction.Methods: This is a prospective study conducted at Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Government Medical College, Manjeri, Kerala, India. Total 200 patients were recruited into present study after satisfying all inclusion and exclusion criteria. Complete history was taken followed by a thorough examination. Baseline investigations and T3, T4, TSH was performed in all patients. Results were analyzed.Results: As per present study, majority of the patients with AUB were from the age group of 35-49 years (43%). In patients with AUB with thyroid dysfunction, prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism was most common followed by hypothyroidism. According to our study thyroid dysfunction was most commonly seen in the age group of 35-49 years, and the most common presentation being menorrhagia.Conclusions: Timely diagnosis and proper management of thyroid dysfunction in women with AUB can avoid variety of non-specific and ineffective diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Aim: The purpose of the study was to detect thyroid dysfunction in women who had abnormal uterine bleeding Study Design: Menorrhagia was the most common type of bleeding (36%). Thyroid dysfunction was discovered in 32% of the patients (Subclinical hypothyroidism in 17%, Hyper thyroid is 11% and hyperthyroidism in 4 % of cases). The researchers looked at 100 cases of Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding that were clinically identified at Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital between March 2014 and August 2016. The patients in this study ranged in age from under 20 to 45 years old. The number of instances with DUB who were between the ages of 31 and 40 is 38 %. Methodology: The parity of the patients ranged from unmarried to 0-5, with the parity 2 group accounting for 37% of all DUB patients and the following assessments were made. Results: Thyroid dysfunction was most common in cases of polymenorrhagia (42.8%), menorrhagia (33.3%), polymenorrhea (28.5%), and oligomenorrhea. (26%). Thyroid dysfunction was most common in the age group 31-40 years, accounting for 77.5% of the population. In 17 % of cases, the primary thyroid malfunction was subclinical hypothyroidism. 3% of hyperthyroid patients were also oligomenorrhocic. The most prevalent thyroid disorder in metrorrhagic patients was subclinical hypothyroidism.

OBJECTIVES: To determine the etiology of puberty menorrhagia. MATERIALS AND METHOD:A total of 35 cases who attended OBG OPD at Shri SathyaSai Medical college from January 2019 – June 2019 who presented with chief complaints of irregular heavy menstrual bleeding since menarche were included in this study.After taking detailed history taking,physical examination,lab investigations,ultrasound etiology of puberty menorrhagia is ruled out. RESULTS: Most common age group in our study are between 12 – 14 years (60%).34.2 % attained menarche between 12 – 13yrs.Around 27 patient had duration of symptoms for less than 6 months, 6 had symptoms for about 6 – 12 months, 2 had for more than 1 year. Most common etiolgy in our study is PCOD (25.7%), anovulatory without PCOD (20 %), bleeding diathesis and thyroid disorder (17.1 %), pregnancy complication (8.5%), tuberculosis (5.7 %), fibroid and endometriosis (2.8 %). CONCLUSION: Puberty menorrhagia needs to be evaluated in early stage rather than at later stage so that consequences of abnormal uterine bleeding can prevented.

Background:. AUB is any abnormal uterine bleeding in the absence of any palpable pelvic pathology and demonstrable extra genital causes. AUB is responsible for 10% of gynaecological complaints.Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism leads to menstrual irregularities. Females with thyroid gland abnormality have chances of reproductive abnormalities ranging from abnormal sexual development, menstrual irregularities, infertility and premature menopause.The objective of this study is to estimate the prevalence of thyroid disorders in women with abnormal uterine bleeding and to assess the menstrul pattern in women with thyroid disorder Methods: The present study was conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital, Laheriasarai, Bihar. Total100 women of reproductive age group between 15-45 years women with abnormal bleeding were studied.Quantitative determination of T3, T4, and TSH by CLIAestimated in autoanlyser. Results: About 100 women participated in the study in which Most of the subjects belong to 26-30 years of age group(30%)followed by20-25 yrs(22%).13% in age group36-40.menorrhagia was the most common presenting symptom(66%)followed by oligomenorrhoea(21%) Thyroid disorders were prevalent in 22%.hypothyroid in 20%and hyperthyroidism in 2%.Majority had menorrhagia 66%followed by oligomenorrhea21%.among thyroid dysfunction 63.3%had menorrhagia and 36.36% had oligomenorrhea. Conclusions: So, biochemical evaluation of thyroid functioning should be made mandatory in all provisionally diagnosed cases of AUB to detect thyroid dysfunction.

Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is the most common reason for gynecological visits for perimenopausal bleeding and may account for more than 25% of all hysterectomies. Objective: This study was aimed to review the causes of abnormal uterine bleeding in perimenopausal women establishing the correlation with ultrasonographic and histopathological examinations. Study Method: This descriptive study was conducted in the department of gynecology and obstetrics, Ibn Sina Medical College, Dhaka during January to December 2012. Two hundred and eleven women were selected for this study, who admitted into the hospital with abnormal uterine bleeding in perimenopausal age. The clinical, ultrasonographic and histopathological findings of these women were evaluated in this study. Results: Menorrhagia was the major symptom (52.6%) irrespective of age and parity. All these women underwent D&C followed by either medical management or hysterectomy depending upon the diagnosis. The histopathological findings of endometrium were analyzed and confirmed as fibroid uterus (58.28%) and DUB (17.58%) correlated well with transvaginal sonography (TVS) and histopathological examination. Hysterectomy conferred other uterine lesions as adenomyosis (18.71%), endometrial polyp (4.81%) and malignancy (1.06%). Conclusion: Abnormal uterine bleeding in perimenopausal age group is a common but ill-defined entity which needs proper evaluation. Accurate diagnosis of the causative factors of AUB in this age group is of utmost importance so that appropriate management can be established early that leads the minimization of the patients’ sufferings. Introduction: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a common disorder occurring in reproductive age group females. It can be understood as bleeding that occurs from the uterus outside the normal parameters and there is no structural defects in the genital tract. One of the most common association with AUB is thyroid dysfunctions. Hence this study aimed to see the incidence of thyroid related disorders in AUB and also to assess the menstrual pattern. Material and Methods: 100 women suffering from AUB who presented to OPD of Obstetrics and Gynecology department of Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital, Gaya, Bihar were recruited in the study. All females in 19 to 45 years of age group with abnormal uterine bleeding were included excluding those with previously known thyroid disorder, abortion history within 3 months etc. Thyroid function tests were done in all along with ultrasonography of pelvis region. Statistical analysis done. Results: The bleeding abnormality that was found in the most of the women was heavy menstrual bleeding. Women who presented with thyroid dysfunction were 33%. 23% had subclinical hypothyroidism, 6% had hypothyroidism and 4% had hyperthyroidism. Conclusion: Abnormal Uterine Bleeding has strong association with thyroid disorders. Most common type of disorder is subclinical hypothyroidism. Thus all patient of AUB must be evaluated for thyroid dysfunction

Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is one of the commonest presentations encountered in gynecological outpatient department. Menstruation is also regulated by many mechanisms, including thyroid hormone. So, for definitive management of AUB, it becomes imperative to assess thyroid status in those with abnormal uterine bleeding.Methods: Cross sectional study was conducted on all woman attending to OPD at Sri Siddhartha Medical College, Tumukuru, with complaints of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB). Thyroid test was done for those who were eligible under inclusion criteria. Incidence of thyroid disorders among AUB and type of abnormal menstrual pattern associated with specific type of thyroid dysfunction were noted in this study.Results: Total of 522 presented with AUB. AUB was most common among woman age >40 years at 49.23% (257 of total 522 cases). AUB was more common in Multipara at 61.49% (321 of 522 cases). Menorrhagia was commonest pattern in AUB accounting for 51.34% (268 of 522cases). Thyroid dysfunction was present in 12.27% (64 of 522) of cases with AUB. Among them hypothyroid was most common accounting for 8.81% (46 of 522 cases). Hyperthyroidism was present in 3.44% (18 of 522 cases). Menorrhagia was most common pattern in Hypothyroidism at 65.21% (30 of 46 cases, followed by polymenorrhea at 17.39% (8 of 46 cases). Oligomenorrhea was most common in hyperthyroid group at 55.54% (10 of 18 cases) closely followed by hypomenorrhea at 44.44% (8 of 18 cases).Conclusions: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is one of the commonest gynecological complaint at gynecological OPD.  Thyroid dysfunction is noted consistently in cases of AUB. So, evaluation of thyroid profile should be part of evaluation of AUB, especially during perimenopause.

ABSTRACT Objective: To present an overview of varied clinical presentations, investigations and treatment options for Osteolytic skull lesions. Study Design: It is a prospective study. Materials and Methods: We conducted this study from January 2013 to December 2015 in the Department of Neurosurgery, Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata. During this period, 14 patients presented with osteolytic skull lesions through the outpatient department. All patients were thoroughly investigated with appropriate hematological and radiological investigations and treated following admission, and surgery was performed in the Neurosurgery Department. All were followed regularly in OPD. Results: Total 14 patients were included in the study. Amongst these 7 were male and 7 female. Age group of patients ranged from 5 to 72 years. Of 14 cases, three cases had dermoid cyst, four cases had metastasis, and one each case had epidermoid cyst, intradiploic meningioma, benign cystic lesion, tuberculosis, histiocytosis X, hemangioma, and osteomyelitis. All underwent diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and referred for Radio or chemotherapy where indicated. Conclusion: All scalp/skull lesions need careful clinical correlation, appropriate radiological investigations to establish diagnosis and subject them to suitable treatment.

Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is one of the most commonly encountered gynecological problem and almost 33 % of women in gynecological outpatient department presented with abnormal uterine bleeding. Dilatation and curettage (D and C) have been the main diagnostic procedure in the evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding patients for decades. The objective of the present study was to analyze the different types of endometrial histopathology of patients presented with the abnormal uterine bleeding and its correlation with the different types of abnormal uterine bleedingMethods: This is a retrospective study, conducted in a medical college in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology over a period of one year from June ’17 to June ’18. All cases of AUB more than 35 years of the age group who underwent D and C procedure were included in this study. Total 100 patients were analyzed.Results: Total 100 patients were analyzed. Age group ranges from 35-58 years and most common age group presenting with AUB was 35-39 years. The most common presenting complaint was menorrhagia 54% (54/100). Histopathology of endometrium showed non-organic causes in 80% (80/100) of AUB patients and the remaining 20% (20/100) had organic causes. Most common endometrial histopathology among non-organic causes was proliferative endometrium 43.75% (35/80) and the most common organic cause was endometrial polyp 40% (8/20). Endometrial hyperplasia was found in 30% (6/20) and endometrial carcinoma was found in 20% (4/20) of cases among organic causes.Conclusions: D and C is the useful and the cost-effective diagnostic procedure in the evaluation of AUB. Histopathological evaluation of endometrial samples is especially indicated in AUB patients to rule out carcinoma and preneoplastic conditions as histopathology is 100% diagnostic in cases of endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma.

Background: Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism leads to menstrual irregularities. Females with thyroid gland abnormality have chances of reproductive abnormalities ranging from abnormal sexual development, menstrual irregularities, infertility and premature menopause. The objectives were to study the association between thyroid dysfunction and AUB in the reproductive age group (18-45 years), To study the thyroid abnormalities in different types of AUB in the reproductive age group, to establish if screening for thyroid abnormalities is justified using T3, T4 and TSH.Methods: This cross-sectional study conducted among 250 women with ‘abnormal uterine bleeding’ (AUB). Inclusion criteria for participants were females in the age group of 18-45 years, females presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding, with thyroid dysfunction, females who do not have signs of demonstrable pelvic pathologyincluding PID.Results: Majority of the patients belonged to the age group of 24 - 32 years i.e.56.8%, 9.2% cases were nullipara, 44.0% cases have menorrhagia, 32.2% have oliogomennorrhea, 19.6% have amenorrhea. Around 3.6% had Thyromegaly, 12.4% have weight gain in hypothyroidism, 28.4% have fatigue in hyperthyroidism, 6.8% cases have higher T4 level, 18.0% cases have higher TSH level.Conclusions: The risk of progression to overt hypothyroidism (about 5% per year) in patients with subclinical disease and the cost-benefit ratio also emphasises the need for selective screening. Early detection of subclinical disease by selective screening facilitates appropriate therapy early in the course of the disease.

Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding is a common gynecological complaint affecting 10-30% of reproductive-aged women and it can result from different causes which adversely affects the woman’s quality of life, necessitating its appropriate and adequate management. Among all the pharmacological and surgical management options of AUB. LNG-IUS is emerging as a safer and effective treatment option of AUB. However apprehension about discomfort associated with the use of intrauterine device leads to its untimely removal. Aim of current study was to conduct a prospective qualitative study to observe the level of patient satisfaction with the use of LNG-IUS in patients with abnormal uterine bleeding.Methods: This study was conducted in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, MGM medical college and M.Y. Group of Hospitals, Indore from March 2017- March 2018. Follow up was done at 1, 3, 6 months.Results: In our study, majority of the women (90%) had improvement in their abnormal uterine bleeding along with significant increase in mean hemoglobin level from7.30+1.29 gm%  to 8.71+1.27 gm% at the end of six months. 86.66% of these patients were very satisfied with the use of LNG IUS,Conclusions: LNG-IUS is an effective device for medical management of AUB and it should be used as the first line therapy for the same. It should always be considered before surgical interventions. It yields promising result in terms of patient satisfaction.
