It was hope that the improvement of mathematical reasoning should be reach by the students after the mathematics learning process, although it is not easy to reach. This study was carried out in secondary high schools through quasi experiment methods. The aim of this study is to describe: Students’ achievement after the learning process, and the difficulties factors on learning mathematics, through contextual teaching and learning based on constructivist approach. The conclusions of this study are: The improvement of students’ mathematical reasoning is quite good. There are also some positive improvements on students’ autonomous learning, students’ participation on the class discussion, the students’ ability on answering the question, and the students can explain to the class how to solve the problems. The obstacle of the learning process is the number of students in the class and the learning schedule. The alternative way to overcome this problem is by giving work sheets to be done as home work or some activities out of the class. It was hope that in the future, the math book should be revised, and being adapted to contextual learning with contextual illustration that is well known and well understood by the learners, so mathematical lesson will be attractive and easy to learn. Keywords: constructivism, contextual learning, mathematical reasoning

The research stood out for a didactic reflection that meets the need for experimental constructions in the classroom, with concrete materials to assist in the process of teaching and learning geometry in elementary school. In this sense of attributing an analysis to this problem, we have as axis, mathematics education, as a way to stimulate students for the development of workshops in which they aimed at the construction of didactic materials as a process of learning mathematics. The process of constructing the concept of geometry that attribute the skills and competencies to be developed in the students at this stage, allowed the same to develop a particular type of thought to understand, describe and represent, in an organized way, the geometric spaces, informing the importance that this content has in their social life as a citizen. Through the construction of geometric figures with manipulated materials, we study all the concepts of the figure, through this tool, thus stimulating the interest and motivation of the students, providing them with geometric and mathematical reasoning. The definitions of geometry can be constructed successively, taking as a basis the previous knowledge of the students or not, in which we highlight that educators should create activities in which students make inquiries of situations related to geometric dimensions, thus having experiences of meaning and direction of themselves and of some figure inserted in the space. However, for the absorption of this teaching and learning process, in addition to presenting theories to the students, it was necessary to show the geometric figures by their physical characteristics, that is, in such a way that nature provides us and not only by its properties and defined concepts. Finally, the research allowed us to analyze the intellectual capacity of each student selected for this purpose.

Abstract The constructivist approach is based on the idea that knowledge can never be passed from one person to another. The only way to acquire knowledge is to create or construct them. The constructivist approach changes also the role of the teacher in the educational process, the task of them is to organize the environment so that the student himself can construct the cognitive forms that teacher wants to give him. In the paper, the nature of the constructivist approach is identified, different aspects regarding mathematics education are analysed as well as the potential impact on the development of mathematical competences in the context of sustainable development is discussed. The study process and learning methods appropriate to constructivist approach also were studied. In order to illustrate the need for a constructivist approach in mathematics education, the survey of students from Latvia University of Life Science and Technologies (LLU) and Riga Technical University (RTU) were carried out, the results of which proved that mathematics learning at universities has to be changed. The current study proved that the constructivist approach radically changes the process of teaching and learning mathematics, connecting it with daily life, rather than teaching only abstract formulas and using a creative approach to mathematical tasks solving. This study shows that using constructivist approach to the teaching of mathematics, the competences needed for sustainable development are boosted.

This study is motivated by the issues found in observations at school, where the daily teaching activities carried out by teachers show that; teaching and learning activities are classical, the teacher only stands or sits in front of the class, the direct relationship between the teacher and students is rare, and students tend to behave passively, such as coming, listening, reading and writing. To overcome this issues, the researchers conducted a research by applying a three-step type of cooperative learning model interview in learning mathematics in the class. The purpose of this study is to reveal the activities and learning outcomes of students after applying the three-step interview type cooperative learning model. From the results of the study it was found that the learning activities of students during the application of the three step interview cooperative learning model increased at each meeting. Thus it can be concluded that the mathematics learning outcomes of students with learning by applying a three-step interview type cooperative learning model is better than those who do not apply the techniques.

Abstract: Mathematics education in Indonesia is growing rapidly in line with the development of mathematics education world. Changes that occur in the learning process in the classroom, influenced by the demands according to the development of technology and science also began with a change in views about the nature of mathematics and learning. Changes in views about the trend of the nature of mathematics can encourage changes in the substance of the curriculum. Meanwhile, changes in views about learning mathematics are strongly influenced by the development of learning theories both general and specifically related to learning mathematics. To find out the existence of these changes, an evaluation is needed to measure them. Evaluation can be used to measure low thinking levels and high levels of thinking, but there are evaluations conducted to measure mathematics learning in general, namely TIMMS.
