Objective: Raising awareness on corneal donation among doctors and medical students is an important step to attain more local corneal donations. The objective of the study was to evaluate the knowledge and attitude of medical students regarding corneal donations. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 5th and final year’s medical students from August 2019 to October 2019. Non-probability convenience sampling was employed. A self-administered questionnaire that evaluated the aspects of knowledge and attitudes about corneal donation was used after informed consent was taken. SPSS 20 was used for statistical analysis. Results: The study participants had a mean score of 3.24+1.86 on the knowledge aspect. Eighty percent correctly recognized that people who die with AIDS cannot donate. The most chosen reason for eyes donation was that pledged corneas can give vision to a blind person (n=66, 47%). Religious beliefs were a major obstacle for eye donation (n=62, 44%). The internet was identified by 79 (56%) of the participants to be the most common source of information. No significant difference was found in the knowledge level of the 5th year (3.31 + 1.84) and final year (3.17 + 1.89) medical students (p=0.65). Conclusion: The study showed a low level of knowledge of students about corneal donations. While raising awareness among medical students is important to increase donation rates, media and internet are not enough for improving the student’s knowledge. Abstract Background Preeclampsia has the greatest impact on maternal mortality which complicates nearly a tenth of pregnancies worldwide. It is one of the top five maternal mortality causes and responsible for 16 % of direct maternal death in Ethiopia. Little is known about the level of knowledge and attitude towards preeclampsia in Ethiopia. This study was designed to assess the knowledge and attitude towards preeclampsia and its associated factors in South Gondar, Northwest Ethiopia. Methods A multicenter facility-based cross-sectional study was implemented in four selected hospitals of South Gondar Zone among 423 pregnant women. Multistage random sampling and systematic random sampling techniques were used to select the study sites and the study participants respectively. Data were entered in EpiData version 3.1 while cleaned and analyzed by Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23. Descriptive and inferential statistics were performed. Adjusted odds ratio with 95 % confidence interval were used to identify the significance of the association between the level of knowledge on preeclampsia and its predictors. Results In this study, 118 (28.8 %), 120 (29.3 %) of the study participants had good knowledge and a positive attitude towards preeclampsia respectively. The likelihood of having good knowledge on preeclampsia was found to be low among women with no education (AOR = 0.22, 95 % CI (0.06, 0.85)), one antenatal care visit (ANC) (AOR = 0.13, 95 % CI (0.03, 0.59)). Whereas, those who booked for ANC in the first trimester (AOR = 6.59, 95 % CI (1.43, 30.33)), gave the last birth at a health facility (AOR = 2.61, 955 CI (1.03, 6.61)), and experienced a complication during previous births (AOR = 3.67, 95 % CI (1.78, 7.57)) were more likely to be knowledgeable on preeclampsia. Conclusions No formal education and not attending four ANC visits were associated with poor knowledge of preeclampsia. While participants who visited health facilities during the first trimester, who gave birth at health facilities, and those who experienced a complication in previous births were more likely to be knowledgeable on preeclampsia. Improving the numbers of ANC visits and encouraging facility delivery are important measures to improve women’s knowledge on preeclampsia. Health education regarding preeclampsia risk factors, symptoms, and complications shall be emphasized.

Background: India has the third largest HIV epidemic in the world. The Indian epidemic is characterized by low levels in the general population and elevated concentrations among high-risk groups. The present study was planned to determine the awareness of HIV among students from Mumbai University.Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out among students from Mumbai University, India during May–June 2017. Two hundred and fifty students were approached to participate in the study of which 199 agreed to participate (males: 132; females: 67). Pretested questionnaire was distributed and collected data was analyzed using IBM SPSS version 23.Results: Study participants had high knowledge (86%) and attitude score (87%). There was no significant difference between males and female participants for attitude and knowledge, except for one question regarding knowledge about HIV transmission via breastfeeding to child.Conclusions: Present study showed that there are no misconceptions or negative attitudes regarding HIV among students. A longitudinal study with a larger sample size across India is recommended for further investigation.

Background: Leprosy has been known to the Indians since the Vedic period. Leprosy is synonymous with social stigma due to reasons like mystery around its transmission, lack of knowledge on available treatment, deformities and religious views. Prejudice and lack of knowledge about leprosy exist even among medical practitioners and healthcare professionals around the world. Considering above mentioned facts, this study was conducted to study knowledge and attitude of medical students and interns towards leprosy.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at IGGMC, Nagpur, among Third MBBS part one of 7th semester medical students who were exam going for community medicine and interns of IGGMC between October 2018 to January 2019. Questionnaire comprised of 27 knowledge-based and 22 attitude–oriented questions. In all total 210 subjects, 99 Interns and 111 students were enrolled for the study.Results: Mean age of interns was 23.52±0.66 years and that of students was 21.45±0.85 years. There was no significant difference in knowledge regarding cause and modes of transmission and clinical features of leprosy between interns and student however interns were having significant higher knowledge regarding diagnosis, treatment, prevention of deformity limitation and precaution to be taken against leprosy. Only 13(6.19%) participants were having knowledge regarding targets of NLEP that was to be achieved by year 2017. Though both interns and students both showed good attitude towards leprosy but only 34 interns and 31 students had ever rendered service or donated money for cause of leprosy.Conclusions: Knowledge regarding national program is limited in both groups, curriculum should be strengthen pertaining to National program.

Background: Medical ethics is a core component in the standardization of medical practice of any nation. Due to this reason, knowledge related to this subject should be imparted to the medical students. Only then, the aim of providing a strong base in the medical field and making of an ideal doctor will be possible. Objective: The study was conducted to compare the status of knowledge and attitude of medical ethics before and after the medical ethics theory class among medical students of Gandaki Medical College, Pokhara. Methodology: This was a cross sectional study conducted in Gandaki Medical College, Pokhara from 1st to 31st August, 2018. A total number of 232 medical students were divided into two groups depending on whether they had attended medical ethics classes or not. Five point Likert scale was used in the responses of the participants and analyzed. Results: The study found that there was significant difference between two groups regarding the importance of consent for all minor operations (p=0.010), general physical examination (<0.001), genital examination of males (p<0.001) and females (p<0.001), treatment of children and adults in emergency and non-emergency without their consent. Similarly, students after medical ethics class compared to the ones not having attended any class strongly disagreed that euthanasia is legalized in Nepal (p-value<0.001). Conclusion: Students after medical ethics theory class had a better understanding of medical ethics compared to the students who did not. Furthermore, active teaching methods like group discussions, role play and pedagogy can be incorporated to have a more effective impact on the students.

Background: The practice of effective feedback delivery in medical institutes of developing countries lags behind the modern principles of medical education. This demands the need to understand the students’ knowledge and perception regarding received feedback in the setting of a developing country. Aims: To assess the level of knowledge and perception of feedback among students. To find the correlation between knowledge and perception. To identify problematic areas in feedback delivery and provide recommendations for rectification. Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted in Rawalpindi Medical University Pakistan, in which 480 medical students from 2nd till 5th-year MBBS were evaluated regarding their knowledge and perception about feedback using structured questionnaires. Results: The students had a good level of knowledge regarding The concept of feedback. However, they had a negative perception of the feedback given to them by their teachers. There was no correlation between mean knowledge and perception scores (r=-0.05, p = 0.272). There was a significant difference between knowledge (p=0.0004) and perception (p=0.02) scores across gender. The difference in mean knowledge scores across academic years was not significant (p=0.267) but this difference was significant for mean perception scores (p=0.001). Conclusion: Strategies should be adopted to incorporate feedback into the curriculum for improving the quality of medical education in a developing country.

Background: Immunization being the most cost-effective treatment for preventing disease and extending life, is essential to know about its schedule and be aware of vaccines that are available up to date.  Immunization is one of the most important strategies for protecting children from disease. Aim: The aim of the study is to assess the knowledge and attitude of immunization among medical students recommended by Government of India (NIS) and Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP). Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in Saveetha Medical College and Hospital, Chennai among final year MBBS students, Medical Interns using a structured questionnaire. The study was conducted between February 2021 & April 2021. Results: In a total of 259 study participants, around78(65%) of Medical Interns and 74(52%) of final year MBBS students are aware that as per NIS, BCG vaccine in catch up can be given until 1 year of age. Conclusion: The degree of knowledge among medical students should be emphasised and various initiatives regarding the knowledge and awareness about immunization among the interns and the medical students should be introduced.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the knowledge, practices and attitudes of undergraduate medical students about anti-bacterial soaps and hand sanitizers. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study conducted with the help of a self-designed, validated online and paperback questionnaire.  The questions were based on knowledge, attitudes and practices of students regarding antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizers. Results: A total of 474 students participated in the study. Majority of the students preferred medicated soaps (55.7%) and hand sanitizers (41.6%) for daily use and considered these products to be superior to regular non-medicated soaps and hand sanitizers. Television commercials (61.8%) were the most common source of information about these products. Medical students found it important to further increase the use of medicated soaps for better protection against disease causing microbes. Conclusion: Majority of the study participants were conscious about hygiene and hand sanitization because of interaction with patients. Moreover, most of the students perceived medicated soaps and hand sanitizers to be effective for protection against disease causing microbes under the influence of media marketing campaigns.

INTRODUCTION: Prevention of disease is the necessity of today's life. Immunization is the most important component of preventive medicine. Knowledge and attitude of health professionals have significant role in increasing the acceptance of immunization. This study is aimed to determine the association between knowledge and attitude towards immunization and its practice among medical students and emphasis on the need of immunization education intervention among medical students. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Institutional based cross-sectional study among 397 medical students studying Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS) was conducted in Universal College of Medical Sciences, Bhairahawa, Nepal. Purposively 1st to 4th year medical students were selected. RESULTS: Among 397 students, 59% had good knowledge regarding immunization, 63% had positive attitude and 47% had applied the knowledge and attitude in practice. Level of knowledge, attitude as well as practice regarding immunization was found statistically significant among medical students with their year of study. The analysis found that level of knowledge was more with 4th year students 89.47±7.92 and least with 1st year students 62.82±13.01. Third year and 4th year students had good attitude with mean score of 85.66±9.13 and 85.49 ± 9.51 respectively. Similarly, practice level was found more among 3rd  and 4th  year student, while least among 1st year students 39.89±21.16. There is statistically weekly positive correlation between knowledge, attitude and practice in overall among the medical students. CONCLUSION: The acceptance of immunization can be increased by increasing the level of knowledge and attitude regarding immunization thus providing a foundation to include a comprehensive immunization education to medical students.

Background: India has the third largest number of people living with HIV/AIDS. India is estimated to have 75,900 new adults with HIV infections. The prevalence of HIV infection was 0.7% in India, 0.26% in Tamil Nadu in the year 2017. HIV related stigma remains an important barrier in effectively fighting against HIV/AIDS. The objectives of the study were to assess knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS among medical students and to assess attitude towards HIV/AIDS among medical students.Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted among 1st year undergraduates of Sree Balaji Medical College. Sample size was calculated using 4pq/L2, computed to a total of 240. Data collection was done using pretested structured questionnaire, containing 7 questions and 5 questions regarding knowledge and attitude towards HIV/AIDS respectively. Data was entered in MS excel and analysed using SPSS software version 22.Results: Among the participtants, 46% were male and 54% were female. 91% of study participants had adequate knowledge (94% knew that HIV was preventable, 89% knew about the mode of spread, 90% knew about transmission prevention) and 84% of the study participants had good attitude.Conclusions: This knowledge and attitude study was to assess the current level of knowledge among first year MBBS students about AIDS at the point of entry to medical course. Few misconceptions were found to exist regarding mode of transmission and prevention. Awareness programmes should be initiated among the MBBS students in the first year itself, so that these lacunae can be rectified.

AIM: The aim of the study was to evaluate the level of awareness and attitude for eye donation among medical students of Qassim University. METHODS: All medical students of Qassim University were invited to participate in this cross-sectional study in 2019. The survey contains 10 questions regarding knowledge for different aspects of eye donation, one question on their attitude to donate eye, and one question to specify reasons for reservation for eye donation which were inquired. Awareness score of 50% and more was defined as “good awareness.” Awareness was associated to variables such as gender, grade of medical school, and if they attended ophthalmology course. RESULTS: Of the 600 students, 386 were surveyed. The good knowledge regarding eye donation was in 19.2% (95% CI 15.2; 23.1) participants. Attitude to donate eye was positive in 102 (26.4% [95% CI 22.0; 30.8]) participants. One hundred and seventy-nine (46.5%) participants were undecided for eye donation. The level of knowledge was positively and significantly associated to attitude to donate eyes. (OR = 2.44 [95% CI 1.4; 4.2], p = 0.001). The awareness was not associated to gender (p = 0.97) and years in medical college (p = 0.6). Attending ophthalmology course did not significantly affect the knowledge about eye donation (p = 0.8). Lack of adequate information was the main barrier among 146 (37.6%) students for their unwillingness for eye donation. CONCLUSIONS: Awareness about eye donation among medical students was low. Health promotion, inclusion of eye donation in undergraduate curriculum, and ophthalmic training are recommended to improve both knowledge and attitude of medical student
